I'm biphasic. My middle-of-the-night sessions are DEFINITELY the most productive mentally, especially for writing. I must have that afternoon nap, usually around 2 PM, sometimes 20 minutes and sometimes 90. I'm retired, so have the flexibility. This video reassures me that this is entirely normal. Hello, can you give more information about your sleep patterns if it's okay? I'm trying to set my sleep pattern to biphasic to write and be more productive.
you're not the only one. A LOT of successful people say they get their only or best inspirations/ideas in the middle of night when everyone is sleeping.
I am a writer too. I went from monophasic to biphasic over the years. Eventually, I found it easier to acknowledge I am biphasic, as I like sleeping twice in a day. Many countries do this as a custom like SA countries and Asian countries at work.
Recently, because of some personal projects I've converted to biphasic sleep, instead of sleeping from 11pm to 6am, I now sleep from 9pm to 12am and wake for 3 to 4 hours and fall asleep normally at 4am waking up at 6am or 7am. It's really helpful for people who don't work jobs but are still productive!
I am definitely biphasic. Even when I get about 7-8 hours of sleep I need my nap (I hate naps, I feel so unproductive) but I do feel more refreshed and ready to conquer more. Great information
I'm a monophasic sleeper (though I didn't know that until watching this video). But I also know people can change their sleep habits. I used to never be a morning person, but now i get up consistently at 5:15 a.m. no matter what time I go to sleep.
I haven't understood why I functioned so well sleeping in 2 segments for years! I honestly felt like I shouldn't and would force myself to sleep in one long go and would feel horrible from it!
Biphasic makes the most sense for me. In college, if I had a lot of homework, I would work on what I could during the day. Later, I would go to bed a little early (around 8/8:30) for 4-5 hours and wake up around midnight - 1 am. I would use this time to do some homework or study for 30 minutes to an hour and sleep until 4:30 - 5 the next morning. I had quite a bit of homework but I didn't want to pull all-nighters. I kind of miss it because it made me feel more productive, but my schedule (if I'm practicing good sleep habits and sometimes I don't lol) is waking up early, working on some activities for a few hours, and taking a nap (between 28 - 90 minutes) - all before 10 am.
I kinda have nearly the same schedule... Just that.. I sleep for 6 hours at night from 9pm to 3am, then have my another sleep in the afternoon at about 2pm to 3:30pm which is a 90 min nap. (P.s. I have only started this pattern due to the lockdown, meaning no offline college sessions)
I had this same schedule only I could will myself to wake at at 1AM or 3:30AM. Or I jus’ tell myself when to wake up and I’d wake up at the specific time. I was so in sync with my biological clock.
I chose biphasic sleep, and it I have a positive experience with my energy, activity, and even mental health. I sleep 4 hours between usually 7-8 PM to 11-12 PM, and again between 6-7 AM to 10-11 AM. I also have a friend with this sleep pattern. Thanks to my flexible work hours, I feel like having a very healthy life. Not even feeling exhausted after waking up in each shift, feeling totally fresh.
Love it, I am in the better shape of my life, eating healthy and doing exercises daily and then I start to wake at 4am, stay 2 to 3 hours wake and then sleep again, I was not worried because I am feeling better than before, and I am using this time to read… thanks for the video
I've noticed the difference in my life and the life of my family members these different sleep phases, but never knew what they were called. Thanks for being so informative!
I am always amazed at what i learn from your videos...the fact that most people were biphasic sleepers until about 300 years ago was new to me. i love the education i get from watching your videos. Thanks for teaching me that im a monophasic sleeper :) I learn something new everyday
This was fascinating! I had never heard of these two sleep patterns before. It seems to me that as a young woman I was a monophasic sleeper but have become a biphasic sleeper as I have aged. I kind of thought of it as a problem until I heard this.
I found this by starting to sleep 3 hours from around 2 to 5pm everyday and from 12 to 5 am every night. I realize I am FAR more productive and happy living this way
I am definitely more of a biphasic sleeper now. I worked overnights for many years, so my circadian rhythm has been a mess. During the week that I didn't have to work (I worked 7 nights on, 7 nights off) I didn't sleep right at all. Once I had my daughter, I began napping during the early evening hours and finally was getting enough sleep to feel rested. I will wake, be up for several hours, then go to bed late at night.
After quitting my job I've naturally fallen into a biphasic sleep pattern. I've been absorbed in my work but I do it at home and there are no time constraints. I really like it.
I sleep for 3 to 4 hours then up for 7 to 8 hours and that's my continous cycle. After I retired and no more alarms that's what my body gravitated to. I feel totally rested after each sleep cycle. I don't experience that totally exhausted feeling anymore.
After struggling with what I thought was "insomnia" (waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to continue sleeping), I tried simply getting up, turning the light on, walking to the kitchen to get some water and then returning to bed. After that, I would continue sleeping with no problems. 😁
I use to be biphasic, and honestly felt great and was the most productive I've ever been in my life. I'm currently a hybrid between biphasic and monophasic. I use to suffer from chronic insomnia so my sleep is still wonky
Well I’m definitely biphasic sleeper. I sleep around 6-7 hours a night and right after my lunch and coffee I nap for 20-30 minutes. Now - during online lessons due coronacrisis - it’s really efficient, but normally I tend to be really tired after lunch because I am so used to napping. It has pros and cons.
thank you, this is what i needed. my school schedule is incredibly limiting and i've tried many different things, but because i have to study in very specific hours and structure my workout and study hours in a very specific way i end up either having to give up the things i need to get done or not sleep enough which causes my productivity to go way down because over the long run a lack of rem sleep damages brain function. though i sleep like a rock and need a minimum of 8 hours of proper sleep i'm gonna try to intentionally section it into two differdiffrent sleep sessions in different parts of the day. wish me luck!!
Good luck Sarah!! I would like to make a similar change to my sleep for positive productivity and health. I also enjoy working during the night hours. I think i would benefit from biphasic sleep starting from 7pm to 11pm, and sleeping again from 5am to 8am. Wish me luck!!
I’ve been biphasic since I was a child. I always wake up between 2 and 4 for 20-30 minutes. I do take sleep aids to get me back to sleep. I have SA and use a CPAP. The CPAP eliminated multiple wake ups. Now I’m up no more than twice a night. Very briefly for the most part.
Lowering the blue light on my computer has made a huge difference for me particularly in regard to eye strain. I don't doubt that it's helped my sleep too.
when i was a freshman in college, i would take midday naps for 1-2 hours and feel great. lately, i’ve noticed that my body tends to want to wake up after about 6 hours in bed, even though i know i need more sleep and will be tired. i also enjoy both late nights and early mornings and i’ve been sad to lose late nights because i wanted to get up earlier. i’m definitely going to intentionally try out biphasic sleep since i currently have a schedule that will allow it 😌
@@DragonGoddessMagick it is 4:05 AM Right now. I get a crazy second day energy boost right around 5:00 AM then I will fall asleep at 4 pm-10pm and then go again sleeping 4pm-10pm 2 days later
I definitely biphasic, though I'd much rather be monophasic. People are always perplexed by the fact that I can fall asleep for only 3 hours, and then wake up feeling very well rested, like I just got a full nights sleep. I have such a weird sleep schedule though, I usually sleep from 4pm to 7pm, and then I sleep again from 11pm to 3am. It's kind of a pain in the ass the function on.
I have never heard of these terms before. But after watching , I'm definitely a Monophasic sleeper. I get my eight hours every night! Very interesting and I learned something new!
I have never heard of either Monophasic or Biphasic sleep. My sleep pattern became irregular ever since my daughter's birth. I'd like to try biphasic sleep but it is almost impossible to achieve due to my schedule and family's schedule. Interesting.
This is the first time I realized there is a term for these two types of sleep. Good to know! I'd like to try both since we're in this quarantined now that I'm aware of it. I spent too much time on the bed during this quarantine and I realize I'm not getting any good sleep. Thanks for the information!
This is great info. I have been interested in these sleep phase options and their benefits for awhile now. Going to try adjusting my mono- to bi-phasic sleep schedules at some point in 2020. Thanks for an awesome video!
I'm biphasic, & I didn't know it was even a thing until a few months ago when my lovely wife heard a story about it on the radio. I'll go to sleep around 11pm, then wake around 3 or 4am. I'll be awake for an hour or so, then pass out on my reclining leather sofa until 7am. I feel great throughout the day & it's just my natural sleep pattern. I typically do not use my hour or so in the middle of the night to be "productive"...I instead use it as my alone time. We have five kids who are all better than everyone else's kids...I've got a challenging career, so I don't get much down time or quiet time, certainly not M -- F. I find that time I get after first waking is freaking amazing...I typically just sit there with the slider open into our large backyard so I can feel the breeze & hear nature doing it's nature thing, & it's my form of meditation I suppose. I highly recommend it, because if I'm doing it, it must be right. I know, my wife is a saint...I'm not sure how she deals with me either.
I am definitely biphased . I typically sleep around 4, up for 1 to 2 hours (sometimes 4j. I have done this for 50 years. Sometimes it clashes with regular work. If I wake up, I am up. That means if I get 4 or 5 hours and I haven’t gone back to sleep before work, I work with less sleep. So does this mean I should get out of bed when I wake up? 👍. I used to do that when I was younger. If worked great when I had kids at home. I do t drink alcohol. Hubs is definitely a mono phase and does not wake up after his head hits the pillow until, he wakes up in the morning. We don’t use alarms.
I was wondering about monophasic sleep vs biphasic, and research concluded that REM stage of sleep is the part where people get the most health benefits needed, from i know in 4 hours you can't reach the REM state, so is that a big downside of the biphasic sleep?
I’m a monophasic sleeper. I like to go to bed earlier (around 9 :30) and try to get up at 6am but usually lie in bed and struggle for 30 min. I am also a university student and like to get early starts to the day. I think that I will try and change my sleep schedule to biphasic to see whether it works. The only thing I’m worried about is not getting enough sleep (I usually shoot for 7.5 hours a night) if I do switch over to biphasic and it possibly making me tired during the day.
I'm in between both. I have a crazy schedule when working. So it's disruptive. I truly try to get 6 to 9 hours sleep. I do love my naps. I snore so that also disrupts my sleep.
I have never heard of these before! I've done biphasic sleep before not knowing it had a name. It does not work for me because it just makes me more tired.
Night worker here in a hotel. I "can" take a nap on my job because it's very quit after 3am until 5. So I get a 90 min nap and in the after noon I go to sleep until 22h. I try to have a this sleep routine to see the sun, but sometimes in the morning I'm too tired and miss a good part of the day. I love to get paid on my nap 😎
im definitely a biphasic sleeper during this vacation. it is true that during school days im a monophasic sleeper but during the 1st week of summer vacation i was tempted to sleep very late at night, at first 10pm then 12am and at worst 2am/4am and it took a toll on my body. For a week i didn't have a proper sleep which led to darker and puffier undereyes and weightloss. But then again i struggled to bring back my original sleep schedule during school days and instead focused on a more biphasic schedule. I sleep at 8-10pm and wake up at 2-3am, then again my mind is really active and my body wakes at default for some reason.. and i take 2-4 hours naps in the afternoon preferably starting at 12pm-1pm
Restrictive sleep would never work for me, I can literally sleep anywhere. Anywhere is comfy and cozy and sleep inducing. Even if I play video games on the floor! However while I can fall asleep easily and can stay asleep long periods of time when I need to, monophasic has never worked for me. My circadian rhythm is off from capitalism. I have ADHD. I find it difficult to get to sleep early enough for my 8 hours before work; if I worked much later in the day this wouldn’t be as hard as I’d just go to bed later. I do find I naturally have nights that seem biphasic, where I nap a little, and since I can’t get into deep sleep yet I get up and do stuff, so I am going to try to implement more true biphasic sleep. I’m tired of being tired all the time! And yes I’ve seen a doctor about it, they say I’m healthy.
I seem to be biphasic sleeper i wake up between 2 am and 2.20 am the stay awake for 1 or 2 hours, normally i wake just around dawn which is bad in summer when the sun rises about 3.30 am winters ok i lie in bed till 9 am but the diffrence in sleep time doesn't seem to bother me too much
Lots of new stuff to learn. Thank you! I have a very disjointed sleep (not by choice). But I am a monophasic sleeper. Years ago while working on the road, I did take a post-lunch nap that always helped me feel better, rested, and more energetic. It's too bad our lives only allow for so much.
In south America they called it siesta.. although that phased out in last 20-30 years. It extended the day and it was not uncommon to have dinner between 8-10pm.
I'm biphasic my necessity with shift work and running small businesses. Which is why I'm watching this video at 4am trying to hack my sleep schedule even more lol.
I'm a biphasic sleeper, so I sleep after school around 6-7 pm, then I wake up around 10 pm and go awake til 2 am then sleep again up to 5 am. That 10 pm - 2 pm is my most productive hours.
Biphasic. I do this. Severe fibromyalgia. 90 mins to 3 hrs then awake for 4-6 hrs (if I lived alone I'd get up and do some puttering around the house) then get some really good sleep for 2-3 hrs around first light. Never been one to hang out in bed until fibro decided to put me there.
I am biphasic, mostly and mainly because it makes me more fierce, ready and confident to undertake the challenges of the day AND night. I can be up, being productive WAY before anyone ever wakes up. It's the most peaceful time of the 24hrs of a day-cycle and when am actually up, I don't feel nearly as tired, had I been mono. I prefer woke, but comfortable woke. Whereby am not suffering from fatigue and exhaustion.
I can sleep 6-8 hours without interruption during the night and feel good the next morning. But I get extremely tired and unfocused at about 2pm. This lasts to about 7pm and after that period I regain all of my energy and I could work until 3am. But I have to get up at 5am every morning thats why I go to bed at 10pm and spend half of my day exhausted for no reason whatsoever. Am I broken?
Very interesting and I'll definitely watch more of your videos. I wonder if you can help me, or offer some advice? I have no idea whether I am monophasic or biphasic - I seem to be both... in that I need to sleep at least 10 hours overnight (I wake a couple of times, sometimes for ages but usually not), then most days I STILL get so tired around 2 - 3pm that I have to go back to bed and crash for 2 - 3 hours... sometimes I can go for a 3pm nap, and could seriously sleep right through until the next morning except I set an alarm for around 6pm to get up and feed and walk my dogs. Sometimes it's all I can do to get up and feed them then I have to go back to bed, and can't get up again until the next morning (and not early, it's usually like 9.30 - 10am before I can wake up enough and find the energy to even get out of bed and shower, etc.) I do have a couple of autoimmune diseases which can cause severe fatigue, so maybe that's why I need so much sleep? I also struggle with low iron, Vit D and B12 (because of one of the autoimmune disorders that stops my body absorbing nutrients properly from food), but I take large dose vit D supplements daily (as recommended by my Dr and specialist), and have monthly B12 injections and regular (approximately 2 - 3 monthly) iron infusions to keep on top of this, yet I am still ALWAYS exhausted and fatigued, and no amount of sleep is ever enough 😔 I do have a sleep disorder as well (OSA), but that is treated with CPAP therapy for the last 15 years, which I always adhere to... the mask and machine don't bother me at all (I mention that because I know some people have trouble sticking to using their cpap machine, but I have never had a problem with it) and my sleep studies indicate that I'm not having excessive apnoeas when using the machine. It's super frustrating and depressing because I used to be kind of a high achiever, super energetic, worked a fairly demanding full time job plus a heap of volunteer work in animal rescue, while raising 3 amazing kids (well they're adults now) on my own as a single mum - AND I kept a regular gym routine and had a couple of hobbies, etc... but now I can't even keep on top of basic housework (my house looks like a tip atm 😔), let alone work (have been off work for over 2 years now) or volunteer or have hobbies or exercise... Most of my Lupus, Myasthenia Gravis and Pernicious Anaemia symptoms are under control since being diagnosed and treated; but the endless exhaustion and need to sleep so much is crazy and debilitating and nothing seems to help 😔 Don't get me wrong, I know I am lucky and that there are much worse health problems that many people have to live/cope with; I'm not dying, or in terrible pain, or severely disabled or anything and I am grateful for that, but if there is any way you (or anybody) know of that I could get more "value" out of my sleep (if you know what I mean?) so I could get away with a few less hours sleeping and have a bit more awake time and energy, like even enough to be able to keep up with washing and housework, and a little time to do something enjoyable, (even if it was just watching a movie or some TV a couple of times a week without falling asleep...) I would very much love to know about it. Sorry for the ridiculously long post... the video piqued my interest and I was going to comment saying pretty much that... but I started typing and before I realised it I'd written a small novel... 🙄
We should return to our natural sleep cycle (biphasic) since multiple other cultures around the world practice is it. Biphasic sleep cycle would also go well with new work schedules shortened to increase work productivity and reduce stress
I go to sleep at night, fall asleep instantly - and after one or two hours I wake up. If I don't get out of bed, my head starts buzzing by itself, all kind of thoughts just keep coming an going for no reason - and I will not fall asleep again. When I get up and seek some distraction, like playing a game of cards of my notebook, I can return to bed after some time and then I sleep until morning. I always get enough sleep and I never am tired during the day. Does this make me a biphasic sleeper?
I desperately want to be a monophasic sleeper but chronic pain makes it impossible for me to stay in bed long enough to get the sleep I need. And I rarely get the opportunity to nap and make up my loss hours, so I'm not quite a biphasic sleeper either. So, I guess I'm triphasic... I'll just keep trying to get some real sleep.
Right now my sleep schedule is totally set. I wake up no matter what at 5 am and am normally asleep around 8-10pm depending on the day but even with a full nights sleep I have to take a nap. If I don't take a nap I'll go to sleep by 6-7pm lol but I'm about to start working third shift so I'm going to try a biphasic sleep schedule. My last day on first shift is 12/6 then I start third shift 12/8. Let's see how this goes!! lol
I am biphasic as I can do either, but like two sleeps in a day. I opt these days to remember to wake up and not force myself to stay in bed. I get up and sleep later when I like.
Bad thing about Biphasic is people don't really understand you need that afternoon nap or think you are a sis or something. Like, I slept four hours last night, I got to sleep now too lol, it's not an optional nap, I got to go to the bed now.
I'm definitely bi-phasic. I sleep 4 hours and then I'm wide awake. I'll get up and do a few things and then go back to sleep for another 4 hours. I didn't know there were others like this.
How do you find time to have two different 4 hour sleep times do you just wake up in the middle of the night stay awake for a few hours and then go back to sleep? If this is what you do personally I reccomebd you to try sleeping for the full 8 hours as that sleep is much more rejuvenating however I don't know what's best for you but I know waking up after 4 hours must be a bit tiring.
This is interesting. I guess I am a monophasic sleeper even though I like to take a nap in the afternoon sometimes. I use to be a biphasic sleeper many years ago but I since have changed to be able to sleep though the night except to get up to go to the bathroom.
Biphasic sleep sounds like it could be nice to give me extra time throughout the day but I know that due to the fact I'm a teenager and I need at least 9hrs of sleep a day a Biphasic sleep schedule would not be healthy as a way to spend less time sleeping and I feel like I would prefer the 8 hour sleeping times but also scince I'm a night owl and because quarantine I could sleep for 5 hours at night time to wake up earlier in the day like at 8 and then later in the night like at 10 I would go to sleep for 3 hours.
Biphasic is so amazing. I never could "sleep through the night". Doesn't matter what I do. I'm a night owl because nights are quiet. Other people are asleep and cannot distract me. While I have been able to function as an early bird when needed, I'd always be less happy and feel like I was getting less done. It just never is that quiet and peaceful during the days and I'd always miss it. Plus I just tend to crash sometime around 4 p.m. in winter and during the hottest part of the day in summer. So forcing myself to stay awake doesn't do much for productivity. So I might as well get half of my sleep in then, wake up refreshed and get to enjoy these extra hours at night to get stuff done.
but shouldn't people take the 4-5 sleep cycles?? if i take first 3 then wake up and sleep later at the day for 3 hours ill be taking cycle 1 and 2 no?? so we never reach cycle 4 and 5 this way! correct me pls
Wow, love how y’all throw some science into the channel. I knew we’re people out there that only slept 4 hours at a time, like Einstein, but didn’t know the term of that type of sleeping schedule. Once again, super informative and learning more and more every time I watch! Thanks!

damn thats awesome. gonna try!
Interesting Dennis! I would like a similar lifestyle change to what you describe. For health reasons and productivity.
Thanks for sharing!

Im a biphasic day sleeper, i genuinely feel less lethargic with this sleep schedule. I always have energy and feel good
Do you take a single nap . If yes then for how many minutes. I will be thankful for reply
Same.
I work at 3 a.m
Sleep 12 p.m into maybe 3 p.m. wake up spend time with my family
Sleep at 10ish until 145ish
What are u doing in this 1 hour?
How long is your nap?
Recently, because of some personal projects I've converted to biphasic sleep, instead of sleeping from 11pm to 6am, I now sleep from 9pm to 12am and wake for 3 to 4 hours and fall asleep normally at 4am waking up at 6am or 7am. Wow that’s almost literally what I’m doing just now..
Now it’s 4 AM, and I’m gonna sleep until 6
I am planning to fall into this routine due to my work, what do you suggest me for workout timings? What suited you
I am definitely biphasic.
Did you start sleeping for longer?
How did you change your sleeping patterns?
I haven't understood why I functioned so well sleeping in 2 segments for years! I honestly felt like I shouldn't and would force myself to sleep in one long go and would feel horrible from it!
wow that is so strange🤔 I'm learning about this too'
Biphasic makes the most sense for me. In college, if I had a lot of homework, I would work on what I could during the day.
Im biphasic but quarantine messed up my schedule so i might try yours cuz it sounds more productive 💀
I had this same schedule only I could will myself to wake at at 1AM or 3:30AM. Or I jus’ tell myself when to wake up and I’d wake up at the specific time. I was so in sync with my biological clock.
But quarantine messed up my schedule now.

Never heard of this but i’m definitely a monophasic sleeper. This is very informative
I am always amazed at what i learn from your videos...the fact that most people were biphasic sleepers until about 300 years ago was new to me. i love the education i get from watching your videos. Thanks for teaching me that im a monophasic sleeper :) I learn something new everyday
I often wake up during the night. So interesting to think that I could be a biphasic sleeper. Thank you so much for this informative video!
I realize I am FAR more productive and happy living this way
This makes a lot of sense. I'm 100% a monophasic sleeper. I can't nap, and once I'm awake in the morning, that's it.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Great content. Keep it up !
In our country Philippines, it is normal to sleep at night for about 5grs then at noon for more than an hour.
I'm definitely a biphasic sleeper, I do best with a shorter sleep and a nap during the day
I’ve been biphasic since I was a child. I always wake up between 2 and 4 for 20-30 minutes. I do take sleep aids to get me back to sleep. I have SA and use a CPAP. The CPAP eliminated multiple wake ups. Now I’m up no more than twice a night. Very briefly for the most part.
amazing video giving the necessary information without even causing confusion
Sleep is so Important to your health always over looked thanks for the info
Lowering the blue light on my computer has made a huge difference for me particularly in regard to eye strain. I don't doubt that it's helped my sleep too.
when i was a freshman in college, i would take midday naps for 1-2 hours and feel great. lately, i’ve noticed that my body tends to want to wake up after about 6 hours in bed, even though i know i need more sleep and will be tired. i also enjoy both late nights and early mornings and i’ve been sad to lose late nights because i wanted to get up earlier. i’m definitely going to intentionally try out biphasic sleep since i currently have a schedule that will allow it 😌
I'm a monophasic sleeper. Never heard of this, very informative.
I sleep every other day and so far I love it. I have had energy like I have never had before. It is actually amazing how productive I am now
Whaaaaat! Please elaborate I’d love to know if this would work for me
@@DragonGoddessMagick it is 4:05 AM Right now.
Biphasic sleep sounds perfect for me. Wish my life would allow for this, 😌, but that is ok. Sleeping for 8 hours straight would be cool too!
I really need to try biphasic sleep. I usually sleep 6-7 hours a night.
so informative and I love her voice, very soothing. I learned a lot and found out I am closer to monophasic
I didn't know there were different types of sleep.. it makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
I have never heard of these terms before. But after watching , I'm definitely a Monophasic sleeper. I get my eight hours every night! Very interesting and I learned something new!
I have sleep apnea, but I am mostly a Monophasic sleeper. This was a great video.
Thank you and Sister Your voice is so much sweet 😊
This is great info. I have been interested in these sleep phase options and their benefits for awhile now. Going to try adjusting my mono- to bi-phasic sleep schedules at some point in 2020. Thanks for an awesome video!
I literally have never heard of this, lol, you learn something new everyday 😀
I'm definitely a monophasic sleeper, but I had to be a biphasic sleeper because of online classes ):
I sleep from 1 am to 6 am and I sleep again during 5 pm to 8 pm basically 8 hours. Basically 8 hours in total.
im definitely a biphasic sleeper during this vacation. it is true that during school days im a monophasic sleeper but during the 1st week of summer vacation i was tempted to sleep very late at night, at first 10pm then 12am and at worst 2am/4am and it took a toll on my body.
I’m learning a lot by watching your channel!
I seem to be biphasic sleeper i wake up between 2 am and 2.20 am the stay awake for 1 or 2 hours, normally i wake just around dawn which is bad in summer when the sun rises about 3.30 am winters ok i lie in bed till 9 am but the diffrence in sleep time doesn't seem to bother me too much
What if you sleep 4 hours at night and take two naps of 30 mins during your comfortable time what is it called?
Great information, this helps me understand my sleep habits better :)
"they may have read, worked, or reproduced during their time awake"
Lmfao
Sometimes it's all I can do to get up and feed them then I have to go back to bed, and can't get up again until the next morning (and not early, it's usually like 9.30 - 10am before I can wake up enough and find the energy to even get out of bed and shower, etc.)
I do have a couple of autoimmune diseases which can cause severe fatigue, so maybe that's why I need so much sleep? I also struggle with low iron, Vit D and B12 (because of one of the autoimmune disorders that stops my body absorbing nutrients properly from food), but I take large dose vit D supplements daily (as recommended by my Dr and specialist), and have monthly B12 injections and regular (approximately 2 - 3 monthly) iron infusions to keep on top of this, yet I am still ALWAYS exhausted and fatigued, and no amount of sleep is ever enough 😔
I do have a sleep disorder as well (OSA), but that is treated with CPAP therapy for the last 15 years, which I always adhere to... the mask and machine don't bother me at all (I mention that because I know some people have trouble sticking to using their cpap machine, but I have never had a problem with it) and my sleep studies indicate that I'm not having excessive apnoeas when using the machine.
Most of my Lupus, Myasthenia Gravis and Pernicious Anaemia symptoms are under control since being diagnosed and treated; but the endless exhaustion and need to sleep so much is crazy and debilitating and nothing seems to help 😔
Don't get me wrong, I know I am lucky and that there are much worse health problems that many people have to live/cope with; I'm not dying, or in terrible pain, or severely disabled or anything and I am grateful for that, but if there is any way you (or anybody) know of that I could get more "value" out of my sleep (if you know what I mean?) so I could get away with a few less hours sleeping and have a bit more awake time and energy, like even enough to be able to keep up with washing and housework, and a little time to do something enjoyable, (even if it was just watching a movie or some TV a couple of times a week without falling asleep...) I would very much love to know about it.
Sorry for the ridiculously long post... the video piqued my interest and I was going to comment saying pretty much that... but I started typing and before I realised it I'd written a small novel... 🙄
Wouldn't a nap or a sleeping session have to be at least 90 mins long to completw a sleep cycle?
i read once about a sleeping pattern called the "uberman" where you have 5 separate instances of 2 hour naps throughout the day. idk how good it is.
You mean 20 minute naps not 2 hours
Never knew these existed. Monophasic sleeper here for sure.
Very interesting, thank you for the informative video.
Let's see how this goes!! lol
Can you change sleeping patterns with age?
How fascinating!! I've never heard of this before. Pretty neat!
I sleep all over the night(for five hours), and also sleep from 12 pm to 2pm. Am I bi or mono??
Im a biphasic sleeper. Sleep from 2am-7am then another 1-2hr nap at noon.
Sleep restriction worked for me when I had really bad sleep problems.
Interesting information. I never knew there were different types I guess I am a monophasic sleeper but more like 4-5 hours a night
Sometimes the little errors made it a bit hard to follow, but overall this was nice to watch. You have a good voice :)
but shouldn't people take the 4-5 sleep cycles?? if i take first 3 then wake up and sleep later at the day for 3 hours ill be taking cycle 1 and 2 no??
so we never reach cycle 4 and 5 this way!
correct me pls
Every cycle is contained in 1.5h of sleep, it is repeating after that
I’m definitely a Monophasic sleeper but didn’t realize it
"They may have read, worked or reproduced during their time awake..."
What if you are able to do both?
Never heard of the terms, but I've always been a monophasic sleeper
Wow, love how y’all throw some science into the channel. I knew we’re people out there that only slept 4 hours at a time, like Einstein, but didn’t know the term of that type of sleeping schedule. Once again, super informative and learning more and more every time I watch! Thanks!
Einstein used to sleep 10 hours a day, but other geniuses did slept the amount of hours that you've said or even less.
Can I politely ask what your credentials are? Curious
True😇
My toddlers have both been biphasic and turned me into one too. I need my siesta! 😮
Great video!!!
Is it ok to sleep 3.5 hours and then work for 8 hours and the sleep again for 3.5 hours and then work for 8 hours?
