  • BOSTON TIBETAN HERITAGE CENTER
    Background & Justification
With the passing of Immigration Act of 1990, by the US Congress, and the subsequent immigration of a thousand exiled Tibetans to various cities in the US, Boston was one of the preferred cluster sites. The first group of immigrants under the scheme who first arrived here will be celebrating 25 glorious years next year and the extended community now has around 700 Tibetans who now call the Greater Boston area their home.
As the community grows exponentially and as more Tibetans settle in the Greater Boston area, the need for a Tibetan Cultural Center has become more pronounced. The Tibetan Association of Boston was formed in 1992, is a non-profit organization 501-3C, which strives to preserve and promote the unique Tibetan culture, tradition and further the cause of Tibet.
    Objectives of the Project
With our rich, ancient Tibetan civilization at the crossroads and great threat, we in exile are under tremendous fear of losing our unique identity. The Tibetan Association of Boston is thus working hard to protect and preserve its rich, ancient culture, language and heritage, and with a center, we will be able to provide the necessary space for the community to share and bequeath something to our children. Such a center, will further ensure, and strengthen the commitment to Boston’s many friends of Tibet and reach out to other members of the broader communities who have much interest and passion to learn about Tibet’s glorious past and be a part of the on-going struggle.
    Challenge & Expected Results
The Tibetan Association of Boston has been seriously reviewing sites and facilities for either purchasing an existing building and then renovating it or constructing a new facility. However, our current financial status does not afford us to move forward and thus we seek funds from our own members and likeminded individuals, donors and supporters who appreciate the mission, and vision of our work. The Tibetan Cultural Heritage Center will function as a gateway to promote and preserve our culture and heritage, where the multi-purpose hall will be able to accommodate 500 people, a shrine room, a library, and classrooms where we will be able to hold our Sunday school programs. Our dreams and aspirations are loud and clear, and with your generous support and help, this may just come true.
    If you are interested:
Please join us in our effort towards making the much needed Tibetan Heritage Center in the Greater Boston area come to fruition. For more information, please contact the Tibetan Heritage Center Committee representatives:

It's a beautiful insight about Tibetans living in Boston. I appreciate the people who are working hard to make the younger generation learn the language, culture and traditions of Tibet. #bodgyalo

Thank you for this video. I know that it’s a few years old. I am very interested to learn more and to help if I can.
These beautiful and courageous people have endured so much yet practice peace and mindfulness. This is something we all could learn from-and it’s so good to know that this group exists.

Well ill be darned there are modern forward thinking Tibetans out there huh.... Its good to see that we are moving forward some places !! Strength and love from India where one must Set out to become different in order to see beyond the bubble of Tibetan Society and realise that there is hope for Life, that one can be a normal human being despite people shoving down our throats the fears and problems of an entire nation and telling you that you have to be THE one to Win back the Freedom from the young age of 9. You can do whatever you want! Live for you, dont worry about Tibetan Culture worry about giving your life Purpose.

What do you mean don't care about culture? I agree with looking for possibilities beyond the community but you have to remember our country is colonized and our culture and language suppressed. If we don't take the initiative to preserve our culture and language it will come to an end and all of it will die. When your parents give you an heirloom you take care of it not throw it away or neglect it. Cultural preservation is equally important as moving out of the Tibetan bubble. If you find your responsibility of standing for your own people a ”burden” then don't other responsible Tibetans who feel the gravity of the situation will.

@@Bzdm0 don't you understand that as much as we can try and preserve our culture , it can't be placed solely on our progeny to do so. They must have their own dreams their own desires. They have but one life to live. And it's proven that putting pressure on young adults has the opposite effect. It is a selfish thing, to want to think of yourself but countless Tibetan children are stuck in there little bubble. There is a whole world beyond their community but they never experience any of it. They stay home and pray and help their parents and start the whole cycle again by having children

@@Bzdm0 I understand the situation, I learnt to speak and write my language. I learnt my history. I have done my task. I have suffered immensely in a school of people who didn't understand freedom. We Tibetans are keeping ourselves away from freedom. We just sit and wait for others to do something. China is only getting stronger and it's too late to hope for a pleasant outcome. And may I ask where you are from? And which Tibetan school you studied in?

    • @Bzdm0

@@tenzinwho2079 It is not only the younger generation’s responsibility but also the parents. The parents slack off and fail to provide an encouraging environment to speak Tibetan. Keep in mind these parent have gone to Tibetan school but they suddenly behave like they don’t Tibetan and replace common Tibetan words with Hindi and English and act like it’s cool. There are numerous dictionaries that people can use to find words that they forgot because of being Ramalug for a long time. There are many books one can read to keep your Tibetan strong and fresh in ones mind. But all of this requires work that the lazy peeps don’t want to. What’s the use of knowing and having studied Tibetan when you don’t use it. People act like they learn Tibetan to keep it in the Choesham.
Losing hope is what the colonizers
want us to believe. Losing hope is losing half the battle. Don’t know about you but I can’t lose hope when our people in Tibet who have to endure tighter restrictions still have hope and protest whenever they can and I am sure there are many Tibetans who feel the same. The faces and names of those imprisoned, martyred and brutally killed by the colonizers will never let the flame of hope die away from my mind and soul.
