Gotta love this guy. The best tutorial and paint-along I've seen so far. I'm gonna check out the rest of his stuff. I've found out he's past. Sad, but he's left us with so much fun. Thankyou, Mr. Clarke!
I found Frank Clarke via a VHS in an op shop and what a blessing he has been! I am 53 and have just found some space in my life to dabble in Art which I find so relaxing. Frank's humour, warmth and generous spirit in sharing his skill and knowledge is gracious. Thank you dearest Frank blessings to your family and may you rest in peace . " Carrot ha who would have thought...."😊
In 2003 I came across one of your painting programmes on afternoon television , and I was half interested . The following week I watched another programme of your painting for beginners. On one of our days out, my wife who had watched the programmes with me bought a few brushes and a few tiny little paint pots , you know the type , made in China and not costing more than £6.. Cheap as chips. I had been brought low with a severe illness and as such could not work .My mind was not functioning very well at the time and my Wife ( God bless Her ) thought that these little paints might help to bring me round into the land of the living again...if only a little. Well I continued more or less in the same state for a good few months , not really caring about anything. I was medicated up to the eyeballs and not being able to sleep at all , even with sleeping pills. Then one night in the middle of Winter at about 3.00 am I decided to go downstairs to the kitchen for a cup of tea and a few biscuits. As I was having my tea , my eyes came across these yet unopened little paint pots and brushes. I must have looked at them for well over an hour, then from my constant stupor I must have decided to open the small package. I used a large white envelope for my canvass and I decided to paint something, which ( in my mind ) was a church yard with a lake in the background and a few scrub trees. The painting was poorly done and it didn't look right , oh it was all in green..all of it! ..and the perspective was strange. I have never been able to paint and draw but this even to me was off kilter. Anyway I decided that that was enough and went back to bed and lo and behold I slept albeit a very tortured sleep for a few hours . I didn't touch these paints again. I continued to watch your programmes on a regular basis and became very interested , and although I had only ever painted once , my interest was sharpened and to such an extent I went out and visited an art shop and bought some tube watercolours and better brushes etc and one of your books. Under your tutelage of the TV programmes and your little book I persevered and began to learn with an obsessive keenness . I kept my interest and even diverted to painting in oils and accrylic . During this time I read a great deal and I became obsessed with the life and work of Paul Cezzane. My interest drove me on to paint a few of Cezanne paintings with a few " in the style of " I have visited his studio in Aix-en- Provence France and visited some of his haunts and thoroughly enjoyed it . So you see Frank I have a lot to thank you for in my love for Art.j
This is probably one of the absolute best watercolour videos I have ever seen. Frank, you are just a delight, aren’t you? Charming and smart and to top it all up a brilliant lesson as well!
I stumbled in a door on TH-cam and found the amazing Mr. Clarke. Been binge watching every night since. Bought watercolors , ordered his brushes,, ordered some dvds. Painted my first real watercolor ever and the hubby says, “Good grief! You should have that framed!”. I love this wonderful Irishman!Current series over and I am dying for more! Come back soon, Frank! Simply want to paint with you!
Thank you Mr. Clarke, your TV show was a huge part of my childhood. I'll always remember waking up every summer morning and tuning in to your show. Funny thing is, I never painted but then again I didn't have to in order to enjoy the art form.
I cannot think of a more enjoyable hour since I lost my Son in 2012. As I am just now emerging from the deepest depth of dark grief I find myself wanting to paint the world he loved so much. He is a master cattleman and horseman in Heaven now. Thankfully I don't think God will let him ride bulls. I am new to watercolor but I know I can do it. I have the brushes you suggest, watercolor tubes as well as paper and I might even practice the carrots tonight! Thank you Sir for warming my heart with laughter tonight. My husband (the golfer) appreciates it too.
Frank, I honestly think I'm getting good at watercolor I love to do portraits and caricature, then I find you, sir. I am humbled by your talent, but what really get's me is your unique ability to "talk" watercolors. I never listen to anybody, Frank, but for you, I will make an exception. Fire away I'm listening....
Frank, I'm so glad to find you on youtube! 15 years ago I found your videotape -- this exact one -- at a friend's house, and watched it 6 times in a row -- it completely transformed the way I understood watercolor! It was such a struggle to teach myself, and you were (and still are) a huge help. In fact, I still use your mountains as an exercise in the classes I now teach. Again, THANK YOU so much for sharing your talent and skill with the world!
I have scoured the internet for a watercolor tutorial. I found Frank Clarke to be the best. He reminds me of my art teacher from when I was in my teens. Thank you Frank!
Frank, frankly you are awesome. I am a software engineer having passion for painting since my childhood and always avoided water color as I had a notion it is the toughest, but not any more...you are also a great teacher....
Frank , I used to watch you about 15 years ago on the morning TV shows you have been an inspiration to me. I love the goat hair brushes. Keep up the great instructional videos YOU are a blessing to the world.
What a delightful and happy personality you have Frank. Lovely Dubliner Accent full of Irish humour and so easy to follow. A marvellous water-colourist and an excellent teaching skill. You make it look so easy for beginners to follow. I absolutely loved these lessons and have come away feeling that I have gained some genuine insight into the what and how of painting in watercolour. Thank you Frank for making these videos and sharing your knowledge in such a relaxing and open and humorous way.
O M G Frank, I have just started painting at the grand old age of 62. I have watched dozens of tutorials without coming across yours until today. I have to say I have learnt more in the last couple of hours than I have in the last three months. I was told by an art teacher a few weeks ago "if you can't draw you can't paint" I was devastated! I am so enthusiastic but she really put the dampeners on me. After watching your videos my faith has returned, thank you so much you are a gem! Jane !
I'm self-taught and started straight away with acrylics and got lost in details that it wasn't fun anymore, then I went over to Pouring, the just for the heck of it I began card making. One of the TH-camrs, Marta Maremi put me onto watercolour painting. I was petrified for my mother always said it was the most difficult mediums she's ever worked with. I just wish she was still alive when I started my walk into the art world. Your lesson is chipping away at the terror of working with watercolours. Thank you SO MUCH!!!! Now I'm fully into watercolours and enjoy the living daylights out of it!
I haven't tried painting in many years, but the enjoyment I receive just watching and listening to Frank is enough for me. I can watch and re-watch over and over again. Frank is wonderful, and he has beautiful hair. Thanks Frank
Oh Frank I've just discovered your amazing videos. What a beautifully simply, clearly explained, intro to watercolours. I found watercolours during lock down and you are fabulous. Your beautiful chat and easy instructions are the best. Thank you xx
I loved Frank when he was on PBS for about 8 weeks. After that, his show was gone, replaced by other painters. He explained painting in a simple but precise way., and I love watching him.
It was watching Frank painting that prompted me to 'have a go' at watercolour and acrylic painting several years ago and every now and then I find it helps me to go back to watch him again especially when I lose my mojo. He has that ability to inspire and encourage everyone who listens and watches.
My husband just retired, and I told him to get a hobby. I got him some watercolor paints, but he wasn't getting the true effect...then I found you... thank you for explaining the painting and what to do, most just speed through and you have no idea what they are using or doing. Your videos are excellent and I am ordering him some brushes and paints as well.. cheers
I have only watched the first 20 minutes so far and already I know that Frank is the man I want to teach me how to paint. His lovely relaxed style and easy to follow instructions make the whole process less fraught and frustrating. There was a chap I used to watch on RTE, I think it was, who had a similar style and he was great to watch too. I like the way Frank explained and showed the basic requirements and also why a 50 colour set and 200 brushes are not necessary. Couldn't wait to see what others think of yer mans skills as an instructor and I am so glad they agree with me that he is really the best.
Hello Frank I learnt more from you in this tutorial than I have in the last 6 months. You made me laugh and feel more relaxed about "giving it a go !!" . Your style of teaching is the true essence of a "teacher" nurturing, supportive and reflective......Thank you....
I have only been "attempting" water color for about 2 months. I have learned more from watching your AMAZING tutorial than watching countless hours of other tutorials. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! Stay well!!
Frank I am watching his video 📹 at half past one in the morning. Can't wait to try these techniques in the morning. Thanks for such a fantastic video 📹. You make it like so simple, especially when you name all the colours when are you are them. Thank you Frank.
I loved listen to this so much if he was my art teacher I would love coming to class I self teach everything, Let me tell ya I absolutely love these old looking video's , it's so calming , video's these days are more idk how to say it more loud and bright and about presentation , older video's are about just paint and be happy
THANK YOU! I took up watercolor a few years ago and I was very pleased with what I was doing. The more I read and watched, the more complicated it got and I became very frustrated and quit for awhile. I found your video on a rainy Sunday afternoon and you reminded me of the simplicity of watercolor and to have fun with it! I've got my brushes, paints and paper out and am having a ball. Thanks for sharing your talent.
I have never understood painting like I understand it thanks to you, Frank Clarke. Your instructions are so simple and are very much appreciated for someone who is very new to painting in acrylics and maybe watercolors. Again, thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frank you are brilliant, this introduction is the best, most informative one I have seen, and it's fun. I can draw ok but have never painted, you have inspired me to have a go. Many thanks.
How wonderful to find you again after many, many years Frank. I bought your books when they were first published and watched your TV programmes (in the UK) with enthusiasm and total admiration. You are a hugely talented gentleman and the only one who ever came close to turning me into "a watercolourist"! You ain't seen carrot people until you've seen mine! Long may you continue to inspire, motivate and guide. Thank you so much. Marion in the UK
Learned a lot and had so much fun just listening to you too. Thank you Frank!! Your approach makes me think...well,...maybe, just maybe... I can try that too!
I never thought of using water color paints but you are an amazing teacher so informative that you have inspired me to paint with watercolor paint thank you and god bless you 😀🙏🏻
Thank you FRANK. What a delight to watch you paint, simplify techniques and entertain me. You are truly an example of how we should feel when we paint. Joyful
Frank, I'm so glad I found you. Used to watch you years ago on PBS when I had cable. Have your brushes and equipment. What I haven't had was you. I also put "Joe the bird" and friends in my paintings, no matter what medium I use. I also use your "carrot" figures. Your a great instructor. I'm so glad I found you again ❤🥰👍
I love this man What a sweetheart I’ve been painting watercolours for years but I haven’t touched my brushes in a few years He makes it very easy to get back at it Thank you Frank 😀
Absolutely love this. I have only been painting with watercolours for a couple of months while recuperating from a serious injury. Wish I had found this when I first started. But now I have. I have never been very artistic when I was younger. I'm 60 at the end of the year. Thank you Frank, you have a new fan. I have ordered the starter kit.
I have never painted before and managed to copy your landscape. Very pleased with my first attempt. Thank you Frank for the excellent instruction and your humour.
I’m grinning from ear to ear, this is just wonderful - I’m finally thinking that I can give painting a go! Thanks Frank, this is the best lesson I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been looking for a while. Sheer genius, that’s what this is!
Frank, you're such a pleasure to watch. I was just flicking through TH-cam before getting ready to go out. 20 minutes later and I'm dragging myself away from your instruction video. I felt like I was in the room with you. I wanna rush back later to watch more. "Happy New Year, Frank and everyone"
BEST FIRST DAY EVER! I wish my first day of watercolor class had me doing this instead of the maple leaf I was to do. Wonderful teaching, thank you for sharing.
"Middle of the day, cars but not a sinner in sight" oh Frank, it's a pleasure listening to you. Love the Dublin accent but seriously, many thanks. you take the fear right out of painting. Painting the garage door.. what else can I say! ;-D
Where have you been all my life, Frank. I've been searching for years for wonderful tutorials that will actually teach me how to achieve what I've envied of other watercolor artists. Do you sell DVD? I want them all. Best forever Peggy
This was great fun and very effective. I've learned so much and I've been painting for yonks! There's hope for me yet. Delightful man, Frank Clarke. Thank you! I'm loving my carrot people.
I so enjoyed your watercolour lesson! You are a most delightful teacher...you explain the how to do it so simply and effectively and in such a relaxed manner...not so intense and with a lightheartedness! You communicate in a way that makes me feel like...yes...I think I really could do this! Thankyou for your encouragement! I will watch this teaching video again...and again.......it makes me smile inside...and that is something that I haven't had enough of for quite some time...
Same here. Lost my wife Judy to cancer 14 months ago and just finished chemo and radiation treatments myself. Don't yet know if it worked. Feb 9 is when I should l know. Yeah. Smiles of any sort are at a premium.
“ I can do this, do it”. Amazing teacher, make the Watercolor painting looks so simply and approachable. Thank you and appreciate your unselfish sharing techniques with enthralled public.
Thank you Frank for your relaxed and de-stressing teaching. You have given me a lot of encouragement to keep at my painting, not done any for about 40 years! (And I'm 72) You said anybody can paint, bless you for that! You also said paint carrot people 10 times, then you'll be able to paint people - and you were right!!
Frank, you are a great artist and a fantastic teacher! Miss seeing you on Irish TV. Hope you'll be back again soon. Great that everyone can watch you on TH-cam. Keep up the great work! Thank you!
Oh you are still as talented and hilarious as ever when I first watched you with my dad over 20 years ago. Dad was a talented oil painter but he wouldnt miss your TV show for the world. In fact he started on water colours as well. I am sooo glad I found you again after all these years. Now I have no excuse. May the Lord Bless you for making us laugh as well. Love your Irish brogue.
I am so glad I stumbled upon your video Frank. I have always wanted to do watercolor an you have made that possible. After one week of listening to your videos I have 3 ready for matting. I can’t wait to learn more. Thank you..
Masterclass 101 on how to teach. If there's a better painting instructor out there I haven't found him/her. Legend.
Gotta love this guy. The best tutorial and paint-along I've seen so far. I'm gonna check out the rest of his stuff. I've found out he's past. Sad, but he's left us with so much fun. Thankyou, Mr. Clarke!
After 70 years I found I could paint, as you said! My family are amazed, you have inspired and enabled me. God bless you real good
I’m the same …..and seventy

Finding a Frank Clarke DVD in my local library was the greatest find since North America.

Peggy Conti You might find them on his website simplypainting.com
What a beautiful story :) Thank you for sharing it.
What a story with a beautiful outcome.
what can I say? An excellent teacher can make it so easy for students to learn. A bad teacher is good at confusing learners. Love your lessons!
i'm back here after beginner drawing class for 4 years, now i'm here to learn how to paint and it's such a wonderful introduction to watercolor
I love the way Frank makes everything so simple. Who would’ve thought people could be carrots, or carrots could be people
This is probably one of the absolute best watercolour videos I have ever seen. Frank, you are just a delight, aren’t you? Charming and smart and to top it all up a brilliant lesson as well!

I love that you are left handed! As a left handed artist this is a bonus! Thank you for being left handed!
Wow! I hadn't even noticed that. 0 out of 10 for me for observation!
Frank I have loved watching you paint and now at age 61 I am painting due to you, thank you for your directorial.
I cannot think of a more enjoyable hour since I lost my Son in 2012. As I am just now emerging from the deepest depth of dark grief I find myself wanting to paint the world he loved so much.
I love this man
What a sweetheart
I’ve been painting watercolours for years but I haven’t touched my brushes in a few years
He makes it very easy to get back at it
Thank you Frank 😀
Absolutely love this. I have only been painting with watercolours for a couple of months while recuperating from a serious injury. Wish I had found this when I first started. But now I have. I have never been very artistic when I was younger. I'm 60 at the end of the year. Thank you Frank, you have a new fan. I have ordered the starter kit.
I have never painted before and managed to copy your landscape. Very pleased with my first attempt. Thank you Frank for the excellent instruction and your humour.
Oh my!! This is FANTASTIC, I'm in love! What an amazing teacher, I'm so glad found him.
Fabulous. I love to listen to you your teaching. you don't rush and your not too slow. I've learnt so much from this lessen. Thank you
Clear, concise and excellent facilitator. Truly a master passionate artist. Thank you Frank. 🇨🇦
I’m grinning from ear to ear, this is just wonderful - I’m finally thinking that I can give painting a go! Thanks Frank, this is the best lesson I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been looking for a while. Sheer genius, that’s what this is!
Absolutely right! I think I maybe laughed out loud at one point! He is amazingly good.
Thank you for your wonderfully easy step by step direction. I think I can follow along. Thanks again x
"Middle of the day, cars but not a sinner in sight" oh Frank, it's a pleasure listening to you. Love the Dublin accent
but seriously, many thanks. you take the fear right out of painting. Painting the garage door.. what else can I say! ;-D
So, so right!

Where have you been all my life, Frank. I've been searching for years for wonderful tutorials that will actually teach me how to achieve what I've envied of other watercolor artists. Do you sell DVD? I want them all.
Best forever
Peggy
This is the greatest watercolor Master Ive ever come across
Oh my God, frank, I love you....my classes were making everything so difficult..I was getting disappointed but you are making me want to try again
He really has the gift, doesn't he? And he is Irish! I love him.
Just found this vid in January 2019, I have always loved Frank Clarke's lessons and this one is just as good as the others.
Just watched this video end to end .Three words .Many thanks Frank.
This was great fun and very effective. I've learned so much and I've been painting for yonks! There's hope for me yet. Delightful man, Frank Clarke. Thank you! I'm loving my carrot people.
Thanks, Frank Clarke for your lesson -valuable, encouraging & comforting!
I so enjoyed your watercolour lesson! You are a most delightful teacher...you explain the how to do it so simply
and effectively and in such a relaxed manner...not so intense and with a lightheartedness! You communicate
in a way that makes me feel like...yes...I think I really could do this! Thankyou for your encouragement! I will
watch this teaching video again...and again.......it makes me smile inside...and that is something that I haven't
had enough of for quite some time...
Same here. Lost my wife Judy to cancer 14 months ago and just finished chemo and radiation treatments myself. Don't yet know if it worked. Feb 9 is when I should l know. Yeah. Smiles of any sort are at a premium.
@@charlesmckinney Charles, you are in my prayers. May God richly bless you!
@@kmdesignstudio8364 Thank you. HE did. The post treatment CT scans show no sign of the cancer. Looks like I'm a survivor.
“ I can do this, do it”.
Amazing teacher, make the Watercolor painting looks so simply and approachable.
Thank you and appreciate your unselfish sharing techniques with enthralled public.
Agree entirely!
Thank you!

It's teachers like you that give the rest of us hope! I so wish I could come to your class in person. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Hear, hear! His patter is amazing. He enthuses me with confidence even though I am a senior rank beginner. And he is fun.
Thanks Frank, I was thinking of starting to paint, you have made it look so easy and fun I am going to give it a go.
I am so glad I stumbled upon your video Frank. I have always wanted to do watercolor an you have made that possible. After one week of listening to your videos I have 3 ready for matting. I can’t wait to learn more. Thank you..
