This scene made me cry at an anime for the first time since 2009's Summer Wars, and I can find a similar moment during Season 2 when Emilia is at her lowest point and it's Subaru's turn to help her out, she helped him by comforting him with kind words and a lap pillow, he does the same with kind words of encouragement and love AND her first kiss (though I like the latter scene moreso for the aftermath once the season reached the end as Emilia mentioning from Puck that a kiss equals getting pregnant), also extra points to the dub performances of Kaylee Mills (Emilia) and Sean Chiplock (Subaru) throughout the series
I saw this scene the first time like 2 years ago. Because of musics, colors and voices actors, this scene is one of my favorite from Re Zero, and Re Zero become one of my favorite anime. Later (2 months ago), I pushed myself exacly like him during an entire week to protect and preserve a friendship with my best friend, the most important person in my life. This friend abandoned me, few days after I rewatch this scene on TH-cam by accident, I cried a lot for like 30 min because what he said is exactly what I thought. So yes, i totally agree with you and this video tell me more how this scene is incredible.
the ep18 rem scene is great but this scene is just a bit better imo,the catharsis that comes with it is genious and liberating!im happy that someone finaly mention this scene! this scene and the arc6 "get up" scene are both on the top of my list and make me cry every single time i read them!
Great video! I agree that this scene is truly slept on. One of the most significant character moments in the series and one of the most impactful scenes in anime. Not to mention, whenever someone says that Subaru had no reason to fall in love with Emilia I look at this and think "what in the actual f**k did you watch?"
Let's be honest here we all know you made this video cause you want a lap pillow. You can't deceive me! As that is every man, woman, and child's true dream!
This entire show is pure gold. I love it so much, and has helped me personally so much, especially episode 18, but also the show as a whole. As long as there is time, we can start again from zero. Can you also do a video on Subaru saving Betty? That is, imo, the best scene in the show
yeah honestly after rewatching Re:zero like past 2 (and a half-ish?) weeks ago (or longer lelz) and having a total Mandela effect that I thought(/saw) season 2 part 2 was released on 2019. And honestly can agree with your statement there other than the fact that everyone just needs a simple lap pillow (but sadly only a select group of people can experience even though everyone can/could [I guess]). As well as Subaru being a great Protagonist like he's genuinely a guy you could meet on real life which honestly is a breath of fresh air in a way on said genre. Plus I can relate to some of the stuff especially the fact that I'm a Pseudo Hikikomori now not fully but honestly close to one which is saying something but I guess it is what it is(?). Other than this honestly can't think something smart on the top of my head or I guess an introspective lelz. But yeah all I can say is keep up the good work with the videos and keep at it on your own pace.
Yeah Subaru is such a phenomenal character, I genuinely love him. Try to pry away from the hikikomori mindset if its possible, its not good for you *which is like stating the obvious but you know lol*
I loved this scene from the time I first watched this series. It was this scene that changed my entire perspective about this series. I got interested after I saw the Rabbit scenes, it was till this scene that I thought this series to be about the consequences of RBD and suffering but then I realized it was much better than that. Subaru's VAs (Both Japanese and English) put their everything in the character. This was the first time this series hit me as hard as the it known for doing.
one great moment in re:zero that stcuked with me was when Crusch tells Subaru how much she respects him. After derseverly earning her disdain in previous loops and all the things that happened, that part felt so satisfying. That and the confesssion to emilia. All the emila vs rem fandom fight was the thing that kept me away from the series for the longest, so when i reached that point i couldnt belive how beautifull and strong that scene was.
my favorite anime youtuber ever. i love you. i dont even like this anime but because of you this is my #1 favorite anime of all time. pls acknowledge me senpai~
About the scene where Rem and Ram hold Subaru's hand as he's panicking in his sleep. The directing seems to insinuate that they didn't actually hold his hand, but rather that Subaru simply thought they did. I think that makes a lot of sense considering the theme of the arc is wrath vs patience. It's about Subaru believing in his heart of hearts that Rem and Ram are kind people worthy of forgiveness and who he is willing to save, not simply about being given the flip-side of their personality.
I wonder if that's the case - I mean the imagined hand holding. He never held their hands in the previous loops, yet was able to distinguish the sensation from Beatrice's hand and verify it on the morning of the next loop. Besides, he didn't know that holding hands of a sleeping person was the twins' custom for warding off nightmares. Holding hands VS torturing and murdering him in the woods... doesn't balance out. But you're right, it's him believing them to be good people and loving them regardless of their mistrust that pushed him off the cliff. Hand holding was just the evidence he was searching for.
They did hold his hand the same thing happens in the ln rem even held his hand while he was sleeping after the dog fight, because thats just hiw she conforts people if she sees them suffering in there sleep
Not sure if you already have this planned, but it’d be dope if you could maybe do an ultimate timeline/explanation of higurashi. Admittedly i never watched the originals and i started with GOU and am currently watching SOTSU(i stick to dub just because i’m not a fan of subtitles, plus this dub doesn’t seem too bad). I watched all your videos after i finished GOU about the differences between each series and will watch your SOTSU after i’m done with watching it. But it would definitely be cool to see a full breakdown of the world, the syndrome, and the timeline of the story, chronologically, or based on the release of the series almost as an overview. 👍
Wasn’t expecting a response this quickly but that’s awesome. I’m a film student, never really been into anime but a video about this series randomly showed up in my recommended and i had some time so i figured why not. So far i’ve been very impressed with the story even as someone who’s not an anime fan, it’s just so different from other things i’ve watched. Thanks for the quick response👍
In the second loop, Rem killed Subaru because she wanted him to die painfully because he had a witch's scent, it was not a mercy kill. Also, in the third loop when Rem tortured him, Ram killed Subaru because what Subaru was gonna say was gonna affect Rem's mental health, it was not a mercy kill, Ram and Rem didn't care about Subaru at that time at all. Btw I liked your review over arc 2 and the lap pillow scene.
It's not that she wanted him to die painfully. She attacked in full force because she expected him to put up resistance. He smelled much worse than regular cult members she dealt with before, and they were quite a challenge. He had to be special, they were supposed to have a bloody showdown... and then he just died from the first blow. Imagine the disappointment.
@@ЯБезымянный-о5ф What do you mean she thought he would put up resistance, he was clearly begging for help at that time. Also, even if she didn't know about the curse it was pretty stupid on her part to accuse a person of being a witch cultist without any proof randomly attack kill him just because of his scent (it is mentioned in the novel that people that aren't related to witch sometimes also have the witch's scent). Also, Roswaal told the maids to not harm Subaru, so Rem was doing her job as a maid wouldn't count either. Rem was entirely at fault for what she did in arc 2.
@@lifehacks344 Did I say she is not at fault? Her orders were to keep an eye on Subaru and she jumped the gun when he acted sus, giving in to her hatred and anxiety. But, once again, you are using meta knowledge that was not necessary available to Rem. Did she even know of those exceptions before getting to know Subaru? For everyone, even for the Cult, the scent is a good enough proof to welcome Subaru as their own, why should it be different for Rem? Ofc, seeing him shambling towards Emilia's room at night while puking on the floor, could have been interpreted as him searching for help, but... really, the dude smelled like her nightmares. And he didn't do anything to give him a benefit of a doubt. On a sidenote, people also miss the a small detail in the final loop of Arc 2. If you remember, after listening to Ram's report on Subaru, Roswaal actually gave her another order - to keep Rem in check so that she doesn't act rashly. We know why Ros does or doesn't do things, right? Keeping in mind that Roswaal knew perfectly about Rem's hatred for the cult (and was in fact the one who instigated it) I'd say Subaru's death was more or less a given without his intervention, or Subaru doing everything by the Gospel's script.
@@ЯБезымянный-о5ф It was not a meta info, Felix said it herself. Even when Subaru revealed that he had the witch's scent to most of the warriors/knights before the white whale fight, they didn't attack him or anything, they just didn't care. > but... really, the dude smelled like her nightmares. Lol dude that's a really nice way to justify someone's murder. Just say that someone had a trauma or a dark past and then it is okay to murder. >I'd say Subaru's death was more or less a given without his intervention, or Subaru doing everything by the Gospel's script. It's not like the maids were going to kill him out of the blue on the second day. He was driving them nuts with that overzealous act though, so that might had been the case if he slipped at some point. But, actually it's him showing his fragile side that took the edge off. "Seeing him like this, I almost don't want to (punish him)". That was, without a doubt, the first amazing scene of ReZero that shook your heart.

I really love the lap pillow scene, it's always made me goosebump everytime I watch it and the song at the background is so beautiful
This is the moment where Subaru really fell in love with Emilia
Not even 90 seconds in and I already big agree with this. This is arguably my favorite scene in the entire show.

Very relatable. Especially when you are the hard working type who thinks that people of only care about you if you produce results.
