Great video! I love how you sort of cut through the marketing BS around wet palettes that gets thrown around. I learned to use it in combination with a regular plastic palette when I needed thick paint or a quick mix, or metallics. Brush holding is something I definitely need to keep working on too. Also, glad to see the poster made it into a suitably prominent place at the painting desk -purely for skin tone and hair reference of course 😂
I have the opposite problem with wet palettes. My paint is too wet the next day. I just plan around it and use it as a wash. So day 1 I get the mini base coated and detailed. Day 2 I just use the old paint, now a wash, to wash the mini.
I'm in a humid location, where the seasons are rain, rain, rain, and two weeks of scorching summer. Yeah wet the next day is my result XD If I seal my wet palette, it even has condensation in the lid.
@@ataraxiapainting well I have a squirter bottle filled with water and I squirt the water on the sides between the sponge and wall till the sponge is full and then add a bit more for the sponge to absorb. I have a redgrass wet pallet and have paint last a couple days and are more likely to get too wet than dry up.
GOT DAMN u gotta be the best mini-painter-teacher on TH-cam!! Your excellence and your cut-to-the-point approach to teaching makes being elite attainable to all us noobs out here!!! Cheers!!!!!!!
I love my wet palette, here, but the problem I have is that I live in Texas, where it's insanely hot most of the year. My palette tends to dry out if I don't stay on top of it, I've found. As someone who is still wrestling with NMM, it makes me crazy to see all these people online who nail it perfectly every time!
@@ataraxiapainting Most of the time, yes. Sometimes, if I have too much water in there, they thin out way too much after one session. I blame your illustrious countryman, Marco Frisoni, for making me use too much water in my palette sometimes!
I make my own wet palettes using air-tight Tupperware style boxes from my local discount store. Once the lid is firmly closed, it keeps the tissue towel and baking paper moist for days (I use de-ionised water, which is used in car batteries to moisten the palette, as it doesn't go "off" and make a nasty smell like tap water does, and is also good for mixing my own washes/glazes using artist ink, artist matte medium/flow enhancer too). Cheap, easy and simple, and I can make a dozen or so at once, so don't have to replace the paper every day, so can keep track of what paints I'm using on my minis. Oh, yes, dust. Bane of my life, but easily remedied with either a quick dusting with a cheap make-up brush or running under a tap and leaving to air dry for a while. This is quite simply one of the best painting tip videos I've seen in a long time :-) I've been in the hobby for just over 50 years now, and am still learning, so I LOVE seeing videos like this, as I always find something that helps my painting skills and other areas of the hobby :-)
FYI, if you put a cover on the wet palette it will hold for up to 2 days. Might be because i live in Sweden but our air aint that moist. Good video tho, even get a sneakpeak on your poster in the beginning of the vid which aint blurred 😂
Keep going Ataraxia, I think your videos are awesome. Please keep up the great work. Not lost any brain cells yet. I’ve only a few left and not lost them watching your videos. 😀🤞👍
When you take a break from constantly yelling at people that they are wrong in every video, you should ask yourself why you have so little views so little subs, so little likes. It Wh you aint gonna break yt with numbers but damn the community is taking a stance against you... just sayin
This video is a great example of... how to not make TH-cam videos. I understand it is supposed to be entertaining and educational, but camera work and way of talking makes me feel like I just lost few braincells. Also, about wet pallete thing. It is supposed to keep the paint wet for a few days. If it doesn't, you are doing it wrong.
Oh I’m sorry I got you loosing brain cells, would you care to elaborate? Ps i guess from the way I talk you might think I lost some brain cells myself, BUT wet palettes are kinda foolproof… so no I don’t agree on that
Need to get one of those blurred out posters. It is what my painting has been missing all these years. 😆
Right? Ahah I have another one for you if you want 👀
Lol @ 0:03 you missed blurring an important part 🫠

Ahahha definitely for that reason. You should definitely try a ceramic palette then!!

I think that’s humidity yea, too much water.. they are tricky
@@skynes leaving a small gap so the palette isn't perfectly sealed does seem to help
I only use wetpallets when I KNOW I'm going to paint the next day. And I always fill the pallet up with water before I stop.
Care to explain more?? 👀

This is just the pep talk I needed today. I'm working on some boring old chaos dudes, using boring old layering.... and that's OK! :-)
Super okay!!
