The city lies on several rolling hills by the Tormes River. Its Old City was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. As of 2018, the municipality has a population of 143,978.

Read about Salamanca in an historical fiction book. It's about the war of 1812. After reading about Plaza Mayor I had to see it. Your video was perfect. I could see all the soldiers and calvary riding in through the square. The references to it being the Oxford or Cambridge city of Spain. Thanks for making history come alive. I really enjoyed it.
