    Before you guys ask...
Why aren't you using a light pollution filter like before?
Long story short, I would be, but I didn't bring the 100mm Kase Neutral Night with me to Turkey.
Didn't you mention you were going to start autoguiding?
Yes, I bought an Asiair kit with guiding scope and everything but didn't get a chance to try it yet and didn't bring it to Turkey with me (as I didn't bring my Sky Watcher Star Adventurer either).

When stacking did you still use darks and flats or these not needed with tracked images?

@@DerrickSandy I didn't bother. Partly because I'm lazy but also because I've never seen a big reward when using a mirror less/DSLR. Definitely worth it with astro cameras though

Sorry I don’t get it. How you can use an autoguiding on this setup?

@@socialwebwiki Star Adventurer has a ST4 port to which a small guide camera can be attached. Its one of the reason I'm going to purchase one over Star Adventurer Mini which lacks that port and has weight capacity of only 3kg compared to Star Adventurer 2i which is at 5kg.

I love the entire Orion complex. Alot of great targets. I recently found a new one while zooming in on Stellarium. If you go a little bit above Alnitak toward Betelguese, there's a smaller reflection nebula called M78. I couldn't see it in your wide field shot at the 2:00 mark of the video. But I think it's pretty small compared to all the other targets in Orion.

Excellent video. I have all this to look forward to as I have recently purchased an iOptron tracker which I am still working out how to use. The two biggest issues for me at the moment are:
    1. Lockdown.
    2. Clouds!

Cheers, I'll look forward to the editing videos as I am still learning that as well.

Great results Alyn, must be nice to have such dark skies. By the way, you should definitely be getting better keeper rate with that setup I'd recomend checking the calibration on the polar scope for the star adventurer you'd be surprised at the difference if it is in fact in need of calibration. Also, maybe in this case you didn't have a choice because of the issue seeing Polaris but I'd recommend keeping the tripod as low and leveled as possible. I think your rate should be closer to 80 to 90% for so short exposures.

Lovely images as ever Alyn, really shows the benefit of some good skies and a decent polar alignment on the star tracker. I can also testify to the poor performance of an unmodified camera having spent many nights getting more and more frames of the Orion MC area at 50mm, and getting nothing like what you have produced.

I have the Sony a7Riii and would really like to know the exact settings on the camera to link up with the Star Adventurer 2i via wifi to be able to use their app. Lastly, I noticed some bowtie type of shapes in the brighter stars, is that from the extreme edge of the lens or is this a normal expected result of the 100-400 lens? Thank you very much!

  • @ianmacdonald2307

Thoroughly enjoyed this - particularly the tip about the ‘polar sight’ which I have never yet used!
Question : at 6.40 on the video you do your final precise polar alignment having framed your target. You you check your polar scope clock to put Polaris exactly on the reticule. How do you know where to put it? The reticule clock on the app shows 0 at the top and 6 at the bottom ( where it would be when you did your rough polar alignment). But by now you have rotated in RA and the reticule will now be offset. Hope this isn’t a stupid question and you understand the point I’m making. I’ve been using the SA for 4 months now and struggle to understand how, at this final stage you know where to put Polaris based on the clock utility within the app. Thanks for sharing your video 👍

  • @xe1zlgg
    @xe1zlgg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Allyn... i have seen your landscape pics and those are wonderfull... I think you have reach the point to get a Fast astrograph telescope....you may see the Redcat 51 or the Askar Acl 200.... those been around 200mm are better choice for the Star adventurer... the sharpness and the fast focal ratio will give much better images than those from the Sony zoom... Cs.

2nd question: is is better to have shorter exposures and higher iso to charpen the stars ? Or, will higher iso damage the dynamic range too much ?
3 question: not using a bahtinov mask ? I found I could not fine focus my Canon 100-400L ii properly until I used a bahtinov mask and a remote fine focussing app (DSLR CONTROLLER for Android).
