It's because Disney avoids The Old Republic that it's still brilliant, imo. I'd rather them crap in their own 'canon' timelines so this one can remain pure.

@@wingsoffreedom3589 I mean Disney has the ability to produce great stories assuming the right people are in charge of it. Regardless of what you think of the sequel trilogy, not all of Disney Star Wars has been bad. I’d prefer to see more content from this era, instead of them leaving it alone and pretending it doesn’t exist.

I love how Malgus tells the point of the sith and jedi to her and then at the end basically to break free just as the sith code states.
Yeah I feel like most Sith misinterperet their own code. It's about freedom through strength and yet most Sith are as much slaves to the Force as Jedi are.
Its evil 101, kinda like how they say the devil tells 99% of the truth and 1% lie but that 1% will determine your actions, basically the most important part...he tells her the sith and jedi are both incredibly flawed edging her to "break free" of supposedly both but kills her master making her guilty and furious thus pushing her to ignore her jedi ways bringing her closer to the darkside

The stronger you become in the Force, the more power you will achieve, but always must you fight for your power.
Without strife, your victory has no meaning. Without strife, you do not advance. Without strife, there is only stagnation. How many sorts of victories can you imagine? Peaceful victory, victory by sacrifice, a truce, an achievement. Unless the victory is achieved by demonstrating that your power is superior, it is only an illusion, temporary at best. We seek more.
The chains represent our restrictions - both those placed upon us and those we place upon ourselves. Ultimately, the goal of any Sith is to free herself from such restrictions. In a way it is so we may do whatever we wish, but it is much more than that; one who has freed themselves from all restrictions has reached perfection, their potential fulfilled - perfect strength, perfect power, perfect destiny. Imagine it. That is our ideal at any rate.
It is said in Sith legend that the Sith'ari, the perfect being, will one day lead us, but perhaps that is just a legend. I wonder what that being would be like. The legends say the Sith'ari will destroy us and make us stronger than ever, but perhaps that is just a legend. Perfection is a goal, I think, rather than a state of being. The Jedi would argue that, no doubt. The Force is our servant and our master, our teacher and our companion, a weapon and a tool; know it and you know the universe, master it and you master the universe, strive for perfection and the Force shall reward you.
The Force is strong with you, master it and it will serve you well.
I’ve always wanted an Old Republic movie with this cinematic quality. It would be so much fun seeing all of this together as one big production or maybe even a trilogy.

This level of animation is extremely expensive. This is probably much more expensive than live action.
A live-action is impossible since Darth Mickey replaced the Old Republic with the "High Republic".

Malgus is exactly what Vader should’ve been. (Not in terms of power but philosophy and mentality) There’s a reason why Sidious wanted Vader to study him.

More than a few times in Dark Horse comics and the current Marvel/Disney ear comics it was only by Vader's pure anger against his own failures and self weakness that enable him to get through the story with a damage life support system and mentally/force power dead droid limbs through combat.
Ngl before I knew anything about this game I would see clips and just thought Malgus was a weird alternate Vader

I love the ancient Jedi architecture and machinery, like Jedi Fallen Order and here. It's so cool to see how deeply connected the Jedi were to the force, and then they lost various practices and technology and the Sith slowly corrupted them, until the were just shadows of what they once was, and then they were destroyed and slowly started becoming more connected to the force. This universe has so much lore and backstory.

Like some commentators said in that video. Malgus has really grown over the years now and become a real deal and deffo deserves a show or movie around him by now. Like overall, the Old Republic is a really interesting era, who cares about the High Republic?? They had no enemies. The Old Republic were two "empires" battling for supremacy over decades. True struggle and the force was better understood. Man, I'd love it so much.
Well we haven't seen the entirety of the high Republic so it's kind of unfair to judge it just yet.
Not just over decades, over millennia. The Old Republic and it's conflict with the Sith Empire in it's various forms lasted a *long* time.
No he does not, why would you punish such a great character with a TV show for those traitors at Disney to water down and bastardize? Let's pray they don't lay their disgusting hands on Revan either.

Marchion Ro is a compelling villain in the High Republic in my opinion, the Drengir were very meh for sure though, least up till Fallen star where I'm at. Hoping for a fallen Jedi at some point, maybe the order covers it up so it's consistent with canon
When will studios understand that we need animated movies just like this and people would flood the theaters or stream it all day long. I could watch these trailers all day. Also old Republic has so much content and stories to explore
People would love to make these bu they are too expensive to produce and get a return back. Not to mention this one trailer could very well have take. Over a year to maybe two to produce.
It costs $10k a second to make a trailer of this quality. 6 and a half minute trailer costs $3.6 million. Do one 24 min episode and it's $14.4 million. One Clone Wars episode (one of the more expensive cartoons to make) costs $1million. Making 1 24 minute episode of this quality and you're talking about $14million. It can be made, but you'd lose way more money than you'd get back.
These cinematics are mainly for advertising purposes and for fans to purchase the game.

@@DarkSpyro707 I mentioned in my comment that they can be made, it just takes a far larger time commitment to create something like that. Yeah there a few full length films out there like that, but could take 2-3 times as long to make versus what we see with Clone Wars. The production budget for the Clone Wars movie was $8.5 million. The budget of a full length theatrical version with these cinematics would arguably run 3 times that of Clone Wars. I would say that Rebels and Resistance ran far less than Clone Wars. The budget for the cinematics of something like what we see here is similar to Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett, but because it's live action, it doesn't take as long as a purely CGI piece to make. It all comes down to time more than anything else. I think in the coming years you could see something like this, but it'll ultimately come down to the hours you put in to produce something like this.
Right now 5-10 minutes are going to be the length of these pieces of work until it can be done perfectly in a short amount of time.
And they'd kill it and piss all over it's corpse. Leave the good stuff alone!

Yeah. They're both about deception, but this one is about the deception of the Jedi instead of the Sith. Pretty neat that they connected them in that way.
The people running this and the game are just brilliant when it comes to story telling.

SWTOR is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. The fan base is very passionate and committed. It’s super special. Try it out!!

Sad to see this, i just hope the next update doesnt take so long and is a bit bigger, because Legacy of the Sith and the Cliffhanger in Onslaught hyped the update like a big thing. But like i said its a good update just a bit disappointing short

Because bad example is the only use for those movies, therefore they are being used as such. But you are right, it would be preferable to not compare and just to forget there was an attempt for sequel trilogy.

They've deliberately created those movies to be a garbage. All the toxicity they'll get is justified by their own doing. And you know what's immature? To throw an emotional tantrum. To yell, scream and destroy until one is acknowledged. What's not immature is to make a joke online or to have a conversation about that.
The ending was such a Exar Kun turning to the darkside moment. Freedon Nadd destroyed his body forcing him to use the dark side to survive.

The fact she could last even that long against Malgus? Now this is a cool character. And in just six minutes she has a better origin and narration than Rey.
It's possible Malgus was not trying very hard and was more focused on corrupting her than killing or injuring her.
But we didn't see any training with her. How is she able to fight against Malgus that long? What a Mary Sue.

This comment alone shows that you've not understood the films and that you clearly misunderstood how the force works.
The force isn't a superpower that you have to learn. When you believe in it and in yourself, you can be very strong with it. That's literally what Luke learns from Yoda in episode 5. It doesn't matter if Rey lifts a piece of paper or a bunch of huge rocks with the force. If she believes in herself, she can do it. Luke could have lifted the X-Wing if he believed in it. But he gave up and thought that it's impossible. "That is why you fail".
And she wasn't really a skilled lightsaber duelist. In episode 7 she used it very clumsy and was just defending herself against Kylo's attacks, who wasn't actively trying to murder her. He saw that she's strong with the force and wanted her to join him. Plus he was wounded and heavily conflicted. In episode 8 Snoke toys with her. And without Kylo's help she would have instantly died against the Praetorians and before that of course to Snoke. She didn't stood a chance against him. And in episode 9 we even see her pretty much loosing against Kylo in the fight. The only reason why she survived there and managed to stab him, was because Leia helped her. So without the help of the rest of the Skywalker family throughout this trilogy, she would have died multiple times. And why are people saying that she's instantly a skilled duelist but then they always criticize the bad fighting and the way she just swings it around? What is it now? Is she skilled or a beginner? Can't be both.
I love how the Jedi master is a Consular Archaeologist. More force oriented then bladework oriented. He almost gets killed in lightsaber combat. However, he force pushes the first enemy, then uses the force to hit Malgus with the rubble. Such a good representation of that type of Jedi would be like in a fight. So well done.
Malgus killed a Jedi Master and his mentor when he was an apprentice and afterwards survived getting crushed by Satele Shan, then he raided and tore down the Jedi Temple at Coruscant.
He has the massive balls to deceive and manipulate everyone in The Empire and became The False Emperor. Then broke his leash with Empress Acina and now he is following his own path in a dark way, attempting to form his own Sith Order.
This is what Vader should've aspired to be if he have enough wits and strength to overthrow Sidious

@@brandonwilliams3777 what? No, what I meant is that if only Vader haven't gotten over Padme's death, obsessed in Obi-Wan and killing Jedi, and focused in learning more about the Sith better than Sidious. He would've been a better and more powerful version of Malgus.
And no, Anakin didn't even wanted a father and he never needed one in the first place. He just wanted to live a family life with Padme and be happy.
If you side with the Republic during Iokath, Acina dies, and Darth Vowrawn becomes the new Sithh Emperor.
Even though the gameplay is nothing like the trailers (that’s just how mmorpg’s are) SWTOR is one of my favorite games, it’s just awesome to make your own character and experience great star wars stories
May sound lame but I’ve played the game since launch (with intermittent breaks from it as I essentially grew up with it in high school, college, and now life.) I find the game insanely fun and worth its monthly cost - though I know this is an unpopular opinion. I love the community within it and will continue to play it.

I imagine some of you in the comments aren't keeping up with all the expansions. I'll give you a quick summary so:
SPOILERS!!!
Malgus supposedly died on Illum but was captured by the Eternal empire and frozen in carbonite. He was freed and had slave conditioning put on him by the reigning Sith Empress. After the Onslaught expansion, he escaped and managed to free himself on Dantooine. He wants the empire made great, so he's gray now so leaning dark. Therefore he probably cares more than other Sith though if this was happening a few thousand years later, Palpatine would've loved an image of the evil Jedi dragging away a child. This is somewhat a dark version of what would've happened had Anakin and his mother both said no but Qui-gon used force because they need their chosen one. They should've come back for Shmee though.
Freezing people in carbonite as in this legends story and The Mandalorian to a point sort of bugs me. When Han is frozen in Empire Lando states that it isn’t used for this purpose and may kill him so it wasn’t a thing really. A small thing I know but just sort of nags at me 🤷♂️
@@chrisedwards6226 I feel like everyone who has been frozen in carb were expendable to the ones freezing them. Like they would've lose sleep if it caused death.
@@chrisedwards6226 Lando was referring to the facility itself, not the process. Vader referred to it as “crude” but adequate enough to deliver Luke to the Emperor. Lando was mainly concerned since they’ve never built it to freeze people.
There's a fan made Kotor CGI that's crazy good quality, it's worth a look. Probably the best fan animation out there

I love how Malgus indirectly cites the Sith Code by telling her she had been living in a cage and that she should break free when she's ready.

These are the best part of Star Wars hands down.
I mean the ot and the prequels were all pretty good... But this is definetly better than the entire sequel trilogy tho. As someone who grew up watching prequels in the cinema, i'd say they're better than the old republic games, but i definetly undersand where you're comming from.
Why couldn’t they make the films anywhere near as intriguing, epic, and as badass as they can make a few minute length animated cinematic for a game.
This was sick, but anytime there’s good Star Wars, whilst I enjoy it for the moments I’m watching, it always leave a sour taste and slightly upset as it just reminds us of what a travesty the treatment of this I.p has been put through!

The thing that I always notice about these cinematic trailers is the lightsaber combat seems authentic (to the universe) better than any other Star Wars media, IMO. Each lightsaber strike feels WAY more powerful and the speed of the duel is noticeable. The animator(s) seem to appreciate how each strike feels like you can tell who's channeling the force better in that moment.
While expensive, a whole series with this style of animation would be quite the gift.

Malgus is a third party here, as is clearly represented in how he stabs a Sith in the back. While he seems to still follow the Sith Code with all his talk about breaking free from cages, he does not support the Order, or the Empire, as a whole. In this he seems to be trying to allow more than just "Jedi" or "Sith" to have control of the secrets of the force, which is something I definitely approve of. He's been trying to change the way the Empire and Sith do things for *years*. There was a whole bit on Ilum at the end of the base game where he tried to form his own Empire that allowed aliens to be part of it without discrimination. I wanted to join him then, and I want to even more now.
@@SuccubiSage Malgus has broken free , he can unlock the jedi holocron. This means he can use both sides of the force. He has reached the conclusion of the code.
And Jedi were, well idiots....Forcing children to stifle emotions, instead of teaching them to understand emotions properly and use them, but not to be controlled by them...It's a recipy for disaster and quite frankly abuse....Then they make surprise faces when Jedi fall to the Dark Side, cause they haven't been taught how to handle emotions....

When a 6 minute video is more breathtaking and amazing than an entire multi-million dollar film trilogy. I can't tell you how many times I was smiling and chanting throughout the video. I felt like a kid again. Disney take some damn notes. This is how you make a story, not the blatant trash you've been putting out since throwing creativity in the garbage.
I love how amazing Malgus is in this trailer and then gets shit on by the player character 2 minutes later and gets captured.

Also the thing about Vader finding holocrons of Vitiate could work because Vitiate is the only Sith that I know of to have achieved true immortality. Or at least something incredibly close to it.
Well, it's part of Legends, SWTOR is not really it's own canon.
Swtor is the last Living remnant of the old canon before disney took over. A remnant we should treasure.
Vader in Legends did have Malgus' journal from around the last campaigns of the Great Galactic War. They were unfinished but it just described battle philosophy and war strategy.
There are no known Holocrons of Vitiate, he took everything with him to his death. All his knowledge got lost.
Wouldnt surprise me if the Sith actively destroyed all knowledge and remnants of Vitiate after his final death considering how much he was hated and feared throughout the entire galaxy by both Jedi and Sith.
Just imagine if they made a full-blown series or trilogy of movies with this animation. I feel it would be sick.
This six minute trailer was more captivating than about 90% of the entire season of Boba Fett. I wish they would just give people what they want

I really doubt Disney would do him Justice after seeing what they did to Boba and other characters.
I love how when somebody is cut with a lightsabre in these cinematics, bits of that person go missing, unlike the sequels where you can literally be stabbed and slashed several times in a fight and just have a couple of burns on your body.
Disney doesn't understand the Grasp of how BadAss Star Wars can actually be its sad that they have no idea the full potential of what they could create.

One twin is taken by the jedi because of her potential and the other one is taken by a dark jedi (not a "sith" or a "witch").
These cinematics are my go to for the perfect representation of star wars. I have bought subscriptions a couple of times and it was worth it for the Jedi Consular Story I played through. I still have to play through the expansions though.

Well, it is part of Legends. Since it's set in the Old Republic era though, it feels detached, but Malgus is mentioned by Palpatine and Vader.
Because it is, there is plenty of Force philosophies that contradict the canon, for example
They just need to make movies and shows like this. That would please the SW community.
The Old Republic game and era is my absolute favorite. These cinematic shave always been on point. I agree with you in that they should make a series.
Malgus has something with leaving a place walking meanwhile a entire place is being destroyed

People who play SWTOR: uhhhh I don't think so.
*spoilers* (don't read further if you haven't played the update and don't want to be spoilt)
(The original reason you start this flash point is to find out what happened to an expedition team whats finding out about Darth null)
After buggy gameplay (what feels like a chapter) they introduce a flashpoint where we visit the planet this battle happening and around the time this battle is happening. When landing on the planet you see a force-field that doesn't allow spacecraft to land so you land a distance off.
Anyway you we fight corrupted beasts and the 2 companions with you start guessing why this might happen but you move forth to find out. As you move forward you find remnants of Darth null what are still active and are corrupting the beasts, when you realize this a massive beast comes (your first boss fight, pretty easy you can tank all off it's moves). As you move forward you start finding left over droids (pretty common accurance in SWTOR). The more you move forward you find this central point where you do your 2nd boss fight and defeat a AI computer system that spawns elite level mobs, (you blow up 4 droids that disables the main shield and kill the main computer) This also disables the shield. As you move forward you find Republic forces (Jedi, Recruits (medics), and counterspies (tech)). You go up a mountain whilst killing them and at the end you see malgus walking out a temple, He has 2million health and doesn't do much damage to phase 2 (40% hp i think)
and then he does abit more damage but it just means you have to use stims and ability shields (or let your companion gain all agro meaning you sit doing nothing). After that he's wounded and reinforcements come in, a darths task force restrains him, he nearly breaks out and then a member of the empires hand (i think that's what they're called) fully restrains him and we go to a cell on one of the main fleets captial ships. (pratically a dungeon) Malgus talks some doo daah we already know saying it only started with him, then we get a cutscene of the twi'lek retrieving the holocron and running off. (If you wonder, just before the 2nd boss fight we see a republic ship left untouched. She probably used that)
SWTOR was basically what got me really into Star Wars and cosplay. I love this game! Also, I agree with Theory. We NEED The Old Republic as canon and a show like Bioware's videos.
The High Republic series has made many aspects of The Knights of Old Republic and The Old Republic canon again too! The mention of the selkath turning to piracy over the diminishing value of kolto compared to bacta made me jump for joy

as a cgi student artist, i can tell you there is so much improvment between the cinematics over the years, and it so pleasing to see and also so cool to make ! (hope i can work on one of theses someday)

I’ve loved every single one of these cinematics that they’ve done and really hope that they see enough incentive to pursue a longer form series or movie of this style. Sooooo many people would be so excited for something like that. Seems to be a good idea but who knows how ungodly expensive and time consuming these animations must be
I really really like Star Wars. But I’m really getting annoyed about that the master always dies. It has happend in games like: fallen order, twice in old republic. Then we have the series rebels were Kanan dies. And we don’t even talk about the movies. Here we go. Qui con Jin + Obi Wan, Obi Wan Luke Skywalker, yoda Luke Skywalker. And if were just here already you could count Jango Fett and Boba Fett to. Or even Rey and Han Solo. And probably even more. I would say mix it up! Kill the padawan sounds kinda dark. But then the master maybe could linger in to the dark side. Would make a way more interesting story then every time the story going like: I’m a padawan I must learn a lot I wil make big mistakes but in the end I have learned so much.
Hopefully someone sees this it makes the games really the same and just les fun.
SWTOR cinematic directors are the best one by far. No one in live action can compete with framing, style and pace

I always hate this trope of padawan doubting the master and cause the master to get killed then the student finally realize it was wrong then the bad guys win and escape. Sorry for my run on sentence. 😂
I dont think this was at all that, though. Her scream at the end was not one of terror, it was anger. She was breaking that cage, tapping into the dark side to save herself. Filled with regret of her master's death, forced to hold up debris else she dies. We witnessed someone fall to the dark side. Not that she believed she was wrong.

@@Silver4Hire Not really. He didn't fall out of necessity for his own survival, he fell because of his attachment to Padmé, of which he believed he could save her by the dark side.
I still come back to SWTOR everytime it has new content. I love that timeline so much. I wish the game did better and had more support behind it.
It would be cool if some of the stuff was canon in this TOR timeline but, like most Legends material, it's non-canon until Dave Filoni makes it not :p
Ive been saying that for a long time, see how fans can really put their voice out there to these big budget companies example like the snyder cut thing, or the Sonic redesign thing etc, Ive always wanted Star Wars fans to push this idea to Disney or whoever makes the call for these projects for them to make a whole series about this! I wanna see more! My favorite is that cinematic trailer about the twins, that would've been one hell of a show
malgus has a soft spot for twi'lek's and he still is hands down my favorite old republic sith, he is a true sith
I think it's because Malgus's wife was a Twi'lek, yet he killed her because he needed to fully engulf himself in the dark side. Breaking attachments makes Sith stronger. He won't kill Twi'leks now because he feels like he wants to make up for his past actions.

Makes me ask the question can you die in Carbonite or are you just frozen and can be revived because if that's the case the ability to bring him back opens up so much possibilities
@@XxDarkoviathxX the devlopers confirmed that malgus in carbonite is not official as they didnt actually put it in, last we saw of malgus was him being defeated in the star forge throne room and being force pushed down a shaft, and wasnt seen again until this trailer, this trailer officially in the story takes place years after any of the expansions in the game and the cold war has ended and conflict has started again
The cinematics from these games are the best stuff I’ve ever seen from any Star Wars material. And this one did not disappoint. I also wish they did a show or movie exactly like these.

@@kianvandenberg6364 i played the jedi knight campaign until tatoinne but u couldnt walk 5 meters without being spotted by an enemy and have to spam the Buttons 800 times until u won. The story was great but the fighting became tiring

Everytime I see a swtor cinematic I feel deep sadness for the direction Disney took the franchise. So many amazing storytelling, visual effect, lightsaber fighting opportunities squandered. It hurts how good these trailers are, how good star wars could and should be...

It’s seriously so staggering the contrast between how these cinematics capture the spirit of StarWars & Disney just doesn’t, for the most part. They lost the reverence & mysticism that made the force, the Jedi & Sith such an amazing place we want to know more about. These cinematics, each time gave me chills and made me feel young again. So freakin good.
The Old Republic writers have always understood Sith/the Dark Side better than pretty much everyone. Malgus and Marr are perfect examples of Sith done perfectly. When you find yourself allying with a Sith's intentions, you know the writing is excellent.
The ONLY thing good about that game, was the CGI trailers/cinematics. The game played nothing like them, at all. It's a cheesy, cartoon'ish borefest, at best. If it'd looked and played like TFU II, then I would've given it due credit.
We need this amazing, epic era to be in the big screen! This is the best Star Wars could be, it has everything we could have, a rich filled universe with countless Jedi and Sith in their prime fighting nonstop in amazing wars filled with rich alien lore!!

As much as I love the Skywalker saga (besides the sequels), they need something fresh. Every time I watch a SWTOR cinematic, it feels new, it feels like unfamiliar territory. I think they need that now more then ever, when it comes to Star Wars films in the future. I've played the original KOTOR games countless times, I've read a few of the books, I've played a lot of the MMO. It's a huge untapped well of stories to tell. Now, whether Disney would destroy it is another story lol. Their TV shows have faired a lot better then their movies, get the people who worked on the mando series perhaps..Idk I would like to see something from this time.
(1) Trailers can be really amazing but don't be deceived. The devs have gone too far with the game. I've played the game on and off since it was sub based but last I heared it has gone so far down that they might even allow cross faction gameplay. Some people welcome this with open arms and I can see where they come from, people dreamed of playing a proper "sith-jedi" or w/e on X side. This means now even the empire vs republic thing is gone. Just one big pile of crap. This "everything for everyone" and "all must feel included" bs needs to stop!
What's the point of the game/story anymore when all are just meshed up in one "happy family" cube. Considering the eternal throne (eternal alliance) is all that's left, if that. Sigh.
