The "IF I ASK YOU for clarity on a rule" I think is super important (as you pointed out). While I appreciate people helping keep me on track when I forget something, I hate people busting out a twenty paragraph blog to correct me on my ruling of how Detect Magic works.... as a non-specific example... Great thoughts as always!
There actually is a pretty decent book on player roles. The Acquisitions Incorporated book has a chapter on player roles presented as character options and progression tracks. There's a role for the player who tracks the bag of holding. For the player who tracks the party questlog. For the player who tracks important NPCs. For the player who tracks the monsters they've defeated and what special tricks those monsters used. For the player who draws maps of everywhere the party goes. There are two roles for the players who manage and corral the other players. Each role grants tool proficiencies, some thematic robbon features, and usually gives the PC a minor magic item that gains more features as they level up.

Yes!
A very delicate role, for the right person, and the right expectations! Haha

Thats AMAZING! I did not know about that, and I love the in-game bonuses that reward the players based on the role they are taking! Wow!
