What an awesome view point, I’m training for PPL, but this will definitely come in handy for the future. Thanks 👍

I’ve been to more than one flight school / flight club that won’t allow you to fly from the right seat unless you’re actively training for CFI. My guess it would be an insurance thing. I can only speak for my area, but finding a 2 year CFI (you need a CFI with at least 2 years experience to sign you off the initial CFI) is hard unless your willing to pay a bunch of money. The airlines are grabbing CFIs before they hit that 2 year point. Might just be my area. I’ve considered moving to finish CFI.

So, we do some training for commercial from the right seat? Do we or can we do the commercial check ride from the right seat as well?

You can do all of commercial from the right seat if your cfi/school allows it. If they don't, find somewhere else to train. And yes, you can do the commercial check ride from the right seat. Just give the DPE a heads-up about it when you schedule it.

    I see DPE’s charging $1500 for the CFI check-ride now a days.

      Mine was more than that

Yeah ... "budget" CFIs ????? Just what is needed at the moment. Good lord!!!

I know, right? How dare someone have a budget to work within for things and want to save money if possible. Tell you what, if you can show a correlation between how much a person spends to get their CFI rating and how good/bad of an instructor they are, I'll take down the video. Deal?
