Saying that is like saying the landspeed record was broken by the driver, not the car. Yes the Kipchoge was probably the only one who could do it, but he couldn't have done it without the shoe. I've heard that the shoe gives you a 4% advantage over other shoes (which, over a 2 hour race, is around 5 minutes; quite a lot, considering the record was broken by a lot less than that)
Ghost Bandit no. Because it that scenario the car is what is moving and doing the work. It think it actually the opposite. The shoes are like the driver. Better driver means car go faster, but at the end of the day it comes to runner
@@tavasp really I'm trying to say that the success is a team effort. Yes Kipchoge was likely the only person who could have broken the record, but Kipchoge wouldn't have been able to do it without the shoes. To me, a runner's shoes are like a formula 1 driver's car. The best driver in the world can't beat an average driver in the best car if they use a Ford focus. And an average driver in the best F1 car won't win if the best driver is using a formula 1 car as well. But it takes the best driver (in terms of long distance running,, Kipchoge) in the best car (the shoes) to reach and surpass the record.
Ghost Bandit I’m pretty sure Kipchoge can run a faster marathon barefoot than most people can with the “best” shoes. I agree that shoes matter, but not as much as Nike want you to believe.
They use light materials that are less durable to help people run faster these are only really used for a race so durability is not that important. Plus most pros that use these have better form then him and weigh next to nothing

OK, 2 things……the fibres in the zoom air unit prevent the airbag from “ballooning” and keep the desired shape and low profile. When they use to call it tensile air they were using 40psi and the bags would inflate like a ball, they came up with fibres inside to hold the airbag to the desired shape and profile they wanted, tensile air became zoom air. Next, if the shoes wear quickly (as expensive as they are) just run in them until you wear them out, snap the carbon fibre plate and call nike for a warranty replacement, Nike will warranty a shoe for 2 years from the date of manufacturing so they will replace the shoe (several times in fact), so there’s that if you wanna get “value” for your money.

I myself am a runner and have been running with Nike technology for a couple years. I have done lots of research on these shoes and basically the Vaporfly save at least 4% of your energy and returns your energy forward. I believe that Zack didn't run that much faster purely because of the shoes. It could've been the adrenaline he got because of them plus the comfort and returned energy. Also, it's no surprise he ran that much faster especially that he ran his last three mile time trial in Addidas
You’ve done lots of research and found out that a shoe called the vaporfly 4% saves 4% of your energy. I really hope that didn’t take lots of research to find out.
I just looked back at this video haha and saw my comment. Sjeffy I was just saying that Zack mainly improved his performance because he was running in pretty mid running shoes and then ran in the best marathon shoes Nike has ever made, which will easily help with his performance. I don’t know if you’re a runner, but good shoes help a lot more than crappy shoes
When he said "if you are 300 pounds and running a marathon they would probably snap" my thought "if some one is 300 pound they probably wouldn't run a marathon" 😂
While the alphafly is a fast shoe, the ultraboost is also an extremely slow shoe. When compared to another Nike shoe such as the Pegasus 37, the difference would not be as significant.
I can't imagine anyone who runs semi competitively or works at a running store describing ultraboosts as "running shoes". A peg or daily trainer would be the bare minimum for a proper comparison or baseline. Just like a car in order to get the car to go that fast you got be a very experienced driver its not just the car itself that can do it its both you and the car
The 2 hour barrier was broken using prototype shoes with 2 carbon inserts (if I'm not mistaken). I believe the rules now allow for only 1 carbon insert.
Yes they do make you more efficient, but let’s be honest. They don’t make you that much faster at 7-8 minute per mile pace...Jerry was just going faster because of the video, and he was being filmed
I’m a pretty average runner (I run about a 1:50 half marathon) and I can tell you these shoes make a huge difference. The first time I wore them I just went for a standard run and it actually felt like my Garmin watch was reporting the wrong times per km. The second time I wore them I got a PB half marathon by a few minutes. I can pretty much guarantee that any runner is going to run better in carbon fibre shoes then standard shoes.
Lamp Pole obviously I’m not gonna demand a 20 minute 5k from a 11 year old or something, so age plays a factor, but for a guy age 16-30 I’d want at least that ( sub 20 ) maybe sub 19 tbh

The wear and tear on the shoes is because of the way he runs. His structure and the way his foot hits the ground is probably causing a lot of his speed issue, his knee hurts when he runs because of the pronation when he runs
@@chrisawesome3091 flat footed is fine but he lands on the inside of his foot and rolls inward. This puts stress on his IT band and causes his knee pain most likely

I also think with a few runs under him, Zack could probably even learn to use the shoe more efficiently and knock off even more time.
It wasn’t the shoes that made kipchoge run sub 2 hour marathon , of course it may have helped but the media made it seem it was all about the shoe rather than kipchoge. Eliud kipchoge is an amazing runner and probably would have been able to do this without those amazing thousand pound shoes .
No like it literally was the shoes. I’m sure he could run a 2:05 with legal shoes, but breaking 2 hours is impossible without illegal equipment, a perfectly flat course, and Pacers with you to draft. Please don’t undersell the advantage of carbon fiber shoes. Even cutting 30 seconds of your time is MASSIVE in a sport this competitive.
Eliud did not wear the Vaporfly Next% when he missed 2 hours by 25 seconds, he wore the Vaporfly 4% and that was a specific event hosted by Nike. He set the marathon world record in Berlin in an actual race in the Next%. The next year Nike hosted another special event to pace him in the Alphaflys when he broke 2. Also the vapor/alphaflys are meant to be light not durable, they make a zoomfly, which are identical in design but use the durable heavier react foam.
Yes, the fact his shoes were worn in one run so much shows a repetitive skid drag, causing friction, and friction is resistance. In the slow mo its quite eveident. But he is a big dude, I'm sure this comes into play being an average marathon runner is 140 lbs to which these shoes are designed for.
I'd like to see a longevity test of them, see how quick Zack wears them out if they got chewed up that much in just one run, Wouldn't be worth it if you had to spend a few hundred dollars every months for shoes
They're road racing shoes, designed for just races. I have a pair of the vaporfly next% which are also considering racing flats but they hold up a little better for training.
there are 2 types of shoes, race shoes and daily trainers. daily trainers last 400-600 miles while race shoes last 100-200 miles. these are races shoes so they're better for races, not the training. they aren't made to be worn everyday.
Good point! I am a very good runner as a freshman. My PR for a 5k is 17 minutes and 11 seconds. I got these shoes a day ago. Can’t wait to try them out for track and field! Enjoy your day.
These are more of a collector's item for me and thats why I bought and reviewed them. Although Eliud did break the 2hr marathon in a shoe similar, I think for my running style and many others that running a full marathon is going to be tough. Enjoyed the test and opening the shoe up.
I think placebo had a lot to do with Zach’s PB effort, just thinking about wearing those shoes makes you want to go faster. Shaving all that time off his previous record is a bit unrealistic... but he killed it!!!!
I went and bought these today. I have had a vascular bypass in the past because I have PAD. My legs hurt like my PAD is bad again. But what I think it is its working my Calve muscles more.
Nothing wrong with breaking the record in better running shoes. Kind of like how basketball players used to wear converse, but now use shoes with better support/cushioning to absorb impact. Or how climbing shoe companies sell shoes with different kinds of rubber so climbers can pick and choose the best shoe for the given terrain they aim to climb
Yeah, more "support/cushioning" doesn't "absorb impact" better than less supportive and cushioned shoes. It's actually the opposite because those ridiculous boats on your feet f*ck up your biomechnics so bad. And that's not my opinion, that's a proven scientific fact.
0:35, vaporfly 4% (pink) was not used in initial 2hr attempt. That was Nike vaporfly 4% Elite (custom version of Nike Vaporfly 4%). secondly 1:34 Alphafly Next% you have is a downgraded version of the custom one Eliud Kipchoge wore. Kipchoge broke the record, not Nike. Still a good cutting open video
You are correct about the Vaporfly Elite in Monza, but the Alphafly is the exact same shoe as Vienna. Some people think there were three carbon plates in Vienna because of a patent, however EK wore the same one plate shoe as what they’re selling now.

So if you look closely at time 6:51 , on his first run there was a huge hill close to the end but on this most recent run, the hill was a lot smaller. That’s probably where the 3 mins off is coming from. No shoe alone would take 3 mins off of a 5k…
Just for the record ... that is *not* the music I listen to. Shoes are super epic though. Very impressive design. 👌

"I think this may be the carbon fiber plate" meanwhile it says Nike fly plate on it 11:27
That's just Nike playing the branding game, it's still a carbon fiber plate look at any scientific breakdown of the shoe.
Try running a marathon with sandals, without breaking it.
I didn't expect to see Jerry here😵
Jerry Rig Everything ❤️
Eliud did not wear the Vaporfly Next% when he missed 2 hours by 25 seconds, he wore the Vaporfly 4% and that was a specific event hosted by Nike. He set the marathon world record in Berlin in an actual race in the Next%. The next year Nike hosted another special event to pace him in the Alphaflys when he broke 2. Also the vapor/alphaflys are meant to be light not durable, they make a zoomfly, which are identical in design but use the durable heavier react foam.
EXACTLY I’m glad I’m not the only one who realized that’s
He didn’t wear the 4%s either, he wore the Vaporfly Elite during the Breaking 2 challenge
was surprised the carbon plate could bend that much before breaking!
love this channel but clearly dan doesn’t know much about running haha. anyway Zach shoes are the ultraboost 20 not the 2.0s
No offense to him
He looks hero and also look like a villain
Great video lots of the information helped me with my science work. I made sure to reference this video by the way 👍
“The guy who broke the two hour marathon” do your research my guy
Eluid kipchoge is totally “just some guy”
Overall, the golden pickaxe of running shoes
Hmm, I've been using them for squat shoes.
i remember i watched this guys when they were like 200k subs
OMG ITS MY DREAM SHOES AND YOU BROKE IT LIKE AAAAAAAAA
you have to run in correct form for that carbon fiber to work xd
xc runners when they saw 24 minutes all out 🥴
Honestly😂
Lol yeah even a 21 is pretty slow
Like I'm a 9th grader and I can hit a 22 minute 5k (3.107) miles.
I run a 15:15 at age 16. You just gotta run 10mi a day and it'll happen
@@gusm4710 I’m also 9th grade, my pr is 18:18
I'd like to see a longevity test of them, see how quick Zack wears them out if they got chewed up that much in just one run, Wouldn't be worth it if you had to spend a few hundred dollars every months for shoes
You aren’t supposed to run in them every day though
Theyre not shoes designed for everyday running. They are racing shoes
They're road racing shoes, designed for just races. I have a pair of the vaporfly next% which are also considering racing flats but they hold up a little better for training.
tha'ts how nike makes money dude
there are 2 types of shoes, race shoes and daily trainers. daily trainers last 400-600 miles while race shoes last 100-200 miles. these are races shoes so they're better for races, not the training. they aren't made to be worn everyday.
Zack - Running every day holding his phone.
Me - Bought a smart watch and binging TH-cam.
Great channel 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
9:44 “8 miles a minute”?!
I believe that it's the best runner with the right shoes to beat the time record. Not Nike!
👍🏻
Good point! I am a very good runner as a freshman. My PR for a 5k is 17 minutes and 11 seconds. I got these shoes a day ago. Can’t wait to try them out for track and field! Enjoy your day.
@@alejandroromagosa5547 these are illegal for track use as the stack height is too high. Try using the Nike dragonfly instead
@@Stryker-ye7wn uh, everybody in my team uses them for track and field, so it’s not illegal. Try using the Alphaflies instead.
@@Stryker-ye7wn oh, almost forgot.... ENJOY YOUR DAY 👍😁
Can't believe people run with their phones. Get these people a FitBit or a Garmin watch please.
The alfafly makes you faster but on 3 miles is the max time that you can run faster 30 seconds
I broke his 3 mile run with sketchers 5th generation memory foam shoes in 20 minutes 😎
These are more of a collector's item for me and thats why I bought and reviewed them. Although Eliud did break the 2hr marathon in a shoe similar, I think for my running style and many others that running a full marathon is going to be tough. Enjoyed the test and opening the shoe up.
Bruuuuh, your son wore a Kenyan bracelet man. Love that mad respect
Didn’t think anybody had noticed this! Really dope!
We're always asking what's inside but we never ask
*How's Inside?*
12:22 bubble bass was hiding the pickles again
Zack: let's not talk about my music.
(Edits the video background with heavy metal music)
Zack: listens 'Let it go' while running
I think placebo had a lot to do with Zach’s PB effort, just thinking about wearing those shoes makes you want to go faster. Shaving all that time off his previous record is a bit unrealistic... but he killed it!!!!
Lmao never seen a shoe break in my life hahahaha till this video 😂 good job Nike
He is not any guy...he is eliud kipchoge
I feel so old I stopped watching in 2016 and I come back to see his kid so grown.
I went and bought these today. I have had a vascular bypass in the past because I have PAD. My legs hurt like my PAD is bad again. But what I think it is its working my Calve muscles more.
“They missed it by like a minute or two?” Bruh did you skip the research part
@@revan552 I’m saying compared to converse lol. Barefoot has better absorption and is better for your body but noone plays basketball barefoot
Some people think there were three carbon plates in Vienna because of a patent, however EK wore the same one plate shoe as what they’re selling now.
bottom be looking like octane from apex
I thought u give this pair to you’re cameraman, he could be happy😢
Ladies first(hopefully no ladies commented first)
Umm you can spell ladies without lad
HOLY HOLY!!! I can proudly say that I have the two HOTTEST women on this planet as MY GIRLFRIENDS! I am the unprettiest TH-camr ever, but they love me for what's inside! Thanks for listening pas
So if you look closely at time 6:51 , on his first run there was a huge hill close to the end but on this most recent run, the hill was a lot smaller. That’s probably where the 3 mins off is coming from. No shoe alone would take 3 mins off of a 5k…
You know the blue line is the speed right?
You should do "what's inside my son"
Oop haha
I was ready for y’all to cut them open and still got a heart shock when you actually cut it 😳😅
Just bought them! Can’t wait to try them out 🔥
yo did they last??? like as in not rip up
caus i just bought it and i heard people say there not durable, i’m not to heavy, at 110 lbs so hopefully they last longer if they aren’t durable
@@valentino9331 how much they last ?
