I travelled to Shimla via train, boarding it from Mumbai Central Station to Chandigarh Station.
Costed me: Rs.750 (Sleeper Class)
From Chandigarh to Chandigarh housing board,I took an E-Rickshaw which was around Rs.30 per seat.
From housing Board I reached Kalka station by bus which costed around Rs.25.
And from Kalka Railway Station, I boarded the "Toy Train" costing Rs.50 (General Class), which took me to my first destination to the "Queen of hills- Shimla".
About the Toy Train -
The "Toy Train" due to its small size and narrow tracks, this locomotive marvels, the travellers with its vintage allure and leisurely pace.
As the train chugs along the winding tracks, it offers passengers panoramic views of mist-covered valleys, verdant forests, and quaint hillside villages. The rhythmic clatter of the wheels against the tracks and the gentle swaying of the carriages evokes a sense of nostalgia, transporting travelers to a simpler time.
The train departs from Kalka, a bustling town in the foothills of the Himalayas, and ascends over 4,000 feet to reach Shimla, traversing 96 kilometers of breathtaking terrain along the way.
One of the highlights of the journey is the passage through the Barog Tunnel, the longest tunnel on the route, which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The train also passes through picturesque hill stations like Solan and Barog, each with its own distinct charm and character.
The journey takes approximately five to six hours to complete, allowing passengers ample time to soak in the scenic beauty and enjoy the leisurely pace of the ride.
