DigitalRev TV Hello DIgital Rev I have a question ony my Wide Angle Lense (HD 52mm Professional 0.45x Wide Angle lens for DC/DV japan with Macro) I am Using it on my Camera D5300. I am Really Confuse. I brought it There In Hongkong at the shops there and It Cost $2550 HK dollar Whatt?? and I ask other shops also there it cost $3000 HK..... Im Getting Frustated Because here in our Country I saw Many Macro lense and Wide Angle lens.. that is much more cheaper and only cost 3000 Pesos Below or only $500 HK ... But The Converter Lens That I brought there in HK it nearly cost 15000 Pesos in our Country Philippines.. Then I saw the Other brand from Amazon ETC that is muhc more cheaper but Looks the same. like the Newwer Brand . I am Getting Frustated Because Whats The Difference?? Is it Worth IT ~_~ for nearly HK $2550 that I brought?? . I wish I just Brought the 1.8g 35mm ED :( The Chinese Sales talk me that this angle lens is better to put on my kit lens.. Dammm Can anyone Explain me the Difference Im Getting really Confuse. is 2550 hk$ worth to buy? Thank You for the answes :( Sad... :"( I think I waste my money on a stupid converter
im a noob and i can understand absolutely everything you say in every video i have seen of yours so far. thank you so much for helping me learn all these tips! you guys are funny, too!
Anyone else notice the part at 1:46 when he points to himself and it looks like flipped a book with his fingers.. or something like that. I don't know how to explain it but I thought he did a magic trick at first.
I love working with an ultra wide. When I was learning photography, I only had a 50mm. then I was loaned a 28mm and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. So I bought myself a 20mm and it was one of my favorite lenses.
I love these videos (found your first one on Pinterest, actually). Your way of presenting the information is fresh and humorous, while other informational videos are often void of personality. Thank you! :)
The leica camera he's using is manual only I believe. However, when the light isnt changing much it's easy to set a correct exposure and just leave the camera on those settings until the light does change.
WOW!!! I dont believe it!!! another serious, very informative, and well thought out video produced from DRTV. Thats two in a row!! I like the new direction that DRTV is heading it. Keep it up!!! These last two videos have been the most educated videos in two years. Im glad the team decided to focus on photography again.
If you want both a fast aperture and ultra wide pretty much your only options on Nikon DX is the tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 or the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5. The tokina will give you a 35mm equivalent of approx. 16mm on the widest setting and the Sigma will give you a 35mm equivalent of approx. 15mm on the widest setting. The Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-f/4.5G is also a good choice if you dont' mind the lens being a bit slower on the long end.
In these " 5 reasons you need ... " reviews, it's really important to mention whether it's for full-frame or APS-c cameras, especially if you're getting wider. 14mm = 30.8mm APS-c equivalent for some cameras, which is huge difference.
+Johan Kjeldsen Myhre sure, but crop sensor cameras increase the effective focal distance. As Abdulrahman was pointing out, the lens used in this video would look rather different than true 15mm in the pics the video shows.
+Abdulrahman Alhatlani a 14mm on aps-c is not a 30.8mm full frame equivalent. 14mm on aps-c is the same as 21 or 22mm. Aps-c has a 1.5 or 1.6x crop depending on manufacturer. Even on micro 4/3 a 14mm would be a 28mm. Also, he is using an m4 in the video. If you wanted the same effect as his 15mm on aps-c you would have to shoot a 10mm with your aps-c camera.
That's with 18mm kit lenses on APS-C. So 10mm is either 15mm or 16mm in 35mm format, depending on which system you use. So this would be just as wide as you're thinking.
Exactly. I was asking because when you are in a place like that or in China like Kai is here, people are so used to seeing tourists with their cameras running around, its nothing to them when someone takes a picture right in front of them in this manner. I encourage you to visit one of these places one day!
Please do a tutorial on low-light photography, like in clubs and raves. For new photographers. How to use a flash and just how to go about event photography in really low light
i know you may not be able to read all the comments, but i just started making youtube videos and I find yours one of the most informative. Kai ( i think his name is) is really great to learn from.
3:32, it was tremendously sad to see the fishes running out of oxygen and dying this way, seriously, cant they kill them instantly, or with lesser pain? :/
+maximumsid Killing the fish means it starts to go off, keeping the fish alive longer means fresher fish! Fish generally aren't left alive in my country, but we do often keep crustaceans and shellfish alive on ice for this reason.
Adrian Milchev They just might be using their 24-105 lens. I'm not too sure it's 15mm in the end, that would look very strange in the video ;). I think they changed from 85 to 50 to 35 to 24.
so wait ... the 18-55 that i have in a DX camera that was designed for DX format camera is actually a 28-88mm ?? I really want to hear you explain this
Hey peeps. What's the difference between a ultra wide angle lens and an ultra wide angle lens converter. If you can please provide a link or specific details.
i need ultra-wide angle lens but i don't know what i have to bay i got canon 60D but i dont know which lens i have to B ( sigma - tamron - canon ) if im lf for good one with nice price :) ?
3:00, the best example I've seen explaining the compression of tele lens. This always bugged me, this is the first time I've seen such an easy to see example.
I have the 750D Canon, which lens for wide angle do you suggest? (Budget up to ~300euros please....!) Plus I couldn't understand which one you have for this ultraaaa wide angle shoot.... :D
+katycolen for canon aps-c look at the canon 10-18 if your on a budget, if you want a little more zoom range and a little better image quality look at the canon 10-22, and if you want the best image quality and a nice big constant aperture but, don't need a big zoom range look at the tokina 11-16 f2.8. They are all really good choices and you can't go wrong with any of them.
i am renting the 1O-24mm nikon lens, and so far i am very dissapointed and happy i rented before buying, the quality seems to be worse then my kit lens, using a tripod, 2 second timer to reduce camera shake, using the same camera settings, f8, .5 seconds {indoor}, iso 1OO, {using it on nikon d33OO} {I have also taken it to the park to take some landscapes, I tried it with many different fstops and shutter speeds, I cannot seem to get s sharp image near or far, I have used auto focus. and have focused manually to get it looking sharp but cannot seem to get a sharp image, {I do not have this issue with the kit lens, {also, i used the same settings for both lens} the image is not as sharp with the 1O-24mm as with my 18-55mm kit lens, is there something I am doing wrong maybe? as of right now i cannot see myself forking out over a grand for this lens as its quality seems to be worse then the cheap kit lens. any help would be appreciated
After so so so much research I have decided on a Fujifilm X30 for my Street Photography endeavours, any comments on if this is a good choice or not would be more than greatly appreciated.
I have a cheap (under $50) ultra wide lens that I really enjoy using. It's the Vivitar Series 1 19-35mm f/3.5. It's not super high quality, but it was cheap, and I was able to adapt it to my Canon 5D. It's not as wide as the crop sensor kit lens, but those don't work on my full frame camera.
The Personal Mind people aren't so insecure and paranoid in Asian countries as miuch as in western places...they are much happier and nicer and respectful (imo)
Krishna Doshi Really...because I got smacked by 3 old women women with their purses in 1 day in Shanghai, just for being slightly in their way. Probably depends on where you are.
+Scotty Turner I hate to say this. But some old people are kinda arrogant and stuff, especially the older generation in Shanghai, who see themselves as superior to the rest of China. Don't get me wrong. I dont want to offend any Old people or Shanghai people.
there is the sigma 12-24mm, which is better then most people expect it to be and the nikon 13mm f5.6 are other full frame option. the nikon is quite expensive though.
Because what i really understand is that if you have an FX lens of 50mm AND take that lens to a DX camera then you multiply the mm times the crop factor... that is WAY different of what you are saying

I would love for you to do reviews with a Dslr and old school lenses reviews, for example Canon eos with fd lens? Really enjoy your channel and reviews
rebels are aps-c. so a lens of a focal length around 8-18 mm would qualify as an ultra-wide. anything somewhat affordable would probably have an aperture of 4-5.6. maybe 3.5 at widest. i think sigma has the widest aps-c wide angle, though it was reputed to be a very soft lens...
Canon has a 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 that's pretty damn cheap, and optically stabilized. There's faster lenses, and there's maybe one or two lenses that go wider, but nothing for nearly so cheap... if a rebel is what you paid for body wise, I'm assuming you're not going to be spending large amounts of money on a lens, especially one of a range that takes a fair amount of getting used to...
Yeah, that lens looks awesome, but it's really expensive. It's on the $2800+ mark. The rebel series are around $500/600 as they are more directed to beginners. But it certainly is a nice lens!
Good grief! I never discourage someone from putting full frame glass on a cropped body. But. You drop a cheap camera, with that lens attached, and it'll destroy the camera if the body lands first. A lighter lens wreaked havoc with my mid tier D7100. Its still getting appraised, i dont think the metal chassis or lens mount are warped, but near everything plastic is a mess
As for UWWs, it really is great! Set it to f8 and snap away^^ I bought a Tokina 12-24mm f4 for my D3200 and it's just so much fun. It really doesn't matter that I have the version without focus motor, at 12mm I just set it to infinity and I can snap away!
Talking about third party lenses. Do a video where you show off the great Samyang lenses! I use Pentax, and I have the 8mm fish-eye, 14mm f/2.8 and the 85mm f/1.4. They're all great!
1:46 that hand and magazine sync tho

I'd love to see a video on the newish 20mm 1.8g nikkor. Any thoughts on this lens for DX bodies? Is it worth the price tag?
Loving ultra wide photography!
At 1:46 it looks like you tossed something in the air.
I'm seeing the first 15 seconds on loop. This is the best intro so far of any photography tutorial!
Any advice about which one should I choose for Nikon D7000?
I'm considering Sigma 8-16.
That's with 18mm kit lenses on APS-C. So 10mm is either 15mm or 16mm in 35mm format, depending on which system you use. So this would be just as wide as you're thinking.
OK Kai.
Time to focus on your carry-kit. Where's the green bag from?

Hey Kai, what equipment [and by that I mean Camera and Lens - I heard Leica but I'm not sure what make, maybe the M Monochrom...] are you using?

is it ok if i use ''Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM'' for videography?

Epic paper magazine or something like that perspective trick flip.
Hey Kai, this video we are watching, with what camera and lens was it shot with?
I'm looking at the sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6
Awesome lens!
"another man is checking out my equipment" lol
I like your videos. You helped me decide to buy the sony a6400...I haven't made enough to buy it yet but yeah...that's my goal lol
Did you replace Loc(k?)'s hands with a stabilizer? If he's not using one, that's one hell of an amazing steady arm.
That, and 18mm on APS-C is like 27mm on full frame.
Kai was using 15mm on a "full frame" 35mm film camera.
what a nice stroll through Hong Kong... thanks, brings me great memories
How did they do that lens changing effect at the beginning of the video where they switch between 85, 15 and 35mm lenses??
zoom out and walk forward.
the camcorder has a variable focal-length lens; they're not actually changing primes
18 to 200 lens is my guess
Adrian Milchev
They just might be using their 24-105 lens. I'm not too sure it's 15mm in the end, that would look very strange in the video ;). I think they changed from 85 to 50 to 35 to 24.
Which mode are you using for those quick shots?
so wait ... the 18-55 that i have in a DX camera that was designed for DX format camera is actually a 28-88mm ?? I really want to hear you explain this
Hey peeps. What's the difference between a ultra wide angle lens and an ultra wide angle lens converter. If you can please provide a link or specific details.
Image quality will be awful with a converter, the converters which you put into kit lenses are awful quality and hardly useable IMO.
Agreed, in my experience the adapters are horrendous and destroy your image quality.
...can you please do a review of the battle of wide / ultra-wide lenses?? thanks and cheers!
i need ultra-wide angle lens but i don't know what i have to bay i got canon 60D but i dont know which lens i have to B ( sigma - tamron - canon ) if im lf for good one with nice price :) ?
can you please do an ultra wide on an aps-c size camera. such as the sigma 8-16. thanks
hey Kai, is there any chance that you can review Samyang 12mm f2.0 ncs cs please ???!!!

I have the 750D Canon, which lens for wide angle do you suggest? (Budget up to ~300euros please....!)
Plus I couldn't understand which one you have for this ultraaaa wide angle shoot.... :D
Take a look at the Tokina 11-16mm...
They are all really good choices and you can't go wrong with any of them.
i am renting the 1O-24mm nikon lens, and so far i am very dissapointed and happy i
rented before buying, the quality seems to be worse then my kit lens,
using a tripod, 2 second timer to reduce camera shake, using the same
camera settings, f8, .5 seconds {indoor}, iso 1OO, {using it on nikon
d33OO} {I have also taken it to the park to take some landscapes, I
tried it with many different fstops and shutter speeds, I cannot seem to
get s sharp image near or far, I have used auto focus. and have focused
manually to get it looking sharp but cannot seem to get a sharp image,
{I do not have this issue with the kit lens, {also, i used the same settings for both lens}
the image is not as sharp with the 1O-24mm as with my 18-55mm kit lens,
is there something I am doing wrong maybe? as of right now i cannot see
myself forking out over a grand for this lens as its quality seems to be
worse then the cheap kit lens.
any help would be appreciated
try the Tokina 11-16 F2.8
it's one of my favorites, especially for landscapes
Look at that Kai. So proud of his Leica m4!

Anyone knows what lens they use on intro scene? Seems to be really good lens.
I like that camera. What model is it?
I have a cheap (under $50) ultra wide lens that I really enjoy using. It's the Vivitar Series 1 19-35mm f/3.5. It's not super high quality, but it was cheap, and I was able to adapt it to my Canon 5D. It's not as wide as the crop sensor kit lens, but those don't work on my full frame camera.
Have you ever taken pictures of people and got into a fight?
The Personal Mind people aren't so insecure and paranoid in Asian countries as miuch as in western places...they are much happier and nicer and respectful (imo)

what is the differences between .35x wide angle vs 0.43 wide angle lens?
What would be a good all round wide-angle lens for my T3i? I'd only spend up to £200, and would use it for both video and photography.
Get the Sigma 10-20mm f/4.0 - it's brilliant and they go for that used.
Thanks that's just what I need. Do you know where you can get them used from?
AppleTechBeast Ebay would be your best bet
Thanks for that. Will have a look.

Your videos are great! the tips are actually really helpful, keep doing making them!!!
there is the sigma 12-24mm, which is better then most people expect it to be and the nikon 13mm f5.6 are other full frame option. the nikon is quite expensive though.
What camera and lens are Kai using? It looks like a 5d iii and a canon cine lens, but maybe I'm wrong...

rebels are aps-c. so a lens of a focal length around 8-18 mm would qualify as an ultra-wide. anything somewhat affordable would probably have an aperture of 4-5.6. maybe 3.5 at widest. i think sigma has the widest aps-c wide angle, though it was reputed to be a very soft lens...
Thank you very much Calvin for your insightful answer. I bought my first dslr and I'm just learning. I'll check those lens out. Thanks!
Now i can't wait until the Rokinon 16mm F2 comes out next month. Fastest ultra-wide I know of!

Leica M4 with Voitlander 15mm
What wireless system do you use?
whenever he has the Leica M with him, he's so calm !
As for UWWs, it really is great! Set it to f8 and snap away^^
I bought a Tokina 12-24mm f4 for my D3200 and it's just so much fun. It really doesn't matter that I have the version without focus motor, at 12mm I just set it to infinity and I can snap away!
2:32 LOL at Kai showing off his Leica and the guy's reaction
nice hair and nice bag.....what brand is that bag?
Talking about third party lenses. Do a video where you show off the great Samyang lenses! I use Pentax, and I have the 8mm fish-eye, 14mm f/2.8 and the 85mm f/1.4. They're all great!
At 5:33 - Best description ever!
