Considering inflation, I think they should change their name to the Billion Dollar Band. I sure wish they would bring Basket Case back to their lineup - they have the best band arrangement of that song ever.
Look, I love the little “Yea Alabama” nod thrown in to the end of a song maybe once a season, but every single song in one show? Overdone much? Lol great show though - everything looks so polished and sounds great!
Why do these talented college bands, with music majors, have such awful books that don’t do that talent justice? Pop music? So below the abilities of these musicians. Sorry, Bama, you may rule the roost in football, but give me the Marching Southerners and their often nods to drum corps charts from drum corps was drum corps.
I’m in the MDB and I agree with you that we could play more difficult corp style music. Unfortunately, our job as a sec marching band is not to appease to drum corp fanatics, but to appease to drunk fans at a football game. That is why we play recognizable tunes and have simpler parts.
@@cartersikes4280 No, I get it. I just hate it. I'm a Georgia Tech alum and while we don't have music majors, at least we have two high level DCI guys in band leadership - the director of Spirit of Atlanta and the Blue Devils brass caption head. But most of what they play is still poppy stuff. At least the brass book has some nice complexity given the BD guy being an assistant band director. And we do warm up with BD's space chords into "F Tuning" (or whatever it is called with band instruments compared to the old bugles) before the game. That's the band highlight of the day for me! LOL! Good luck this year...beat UGAg...we are creeping closer but we can't count on us taking care of them quite yet, so we have to count on Bama, Texas, etc. to knock them off their pedestal! :)
Best answer I can give you on that front is that the people who tend to watch (read: complain about) MDB shows during games know nothing about music or what makes them good. Sucks but is what it is
