I’m convinced Austin has 300 iq, this is quite possibly the best TH-cam video out there on vocal recording tips and he’s giving it to us for FREE. This is literally content that I would pay for
Thanks Austin ! In 1990 I went to Grove School of Music and studied Music Production and Engineering. I have worked with many top writers in Nashville and Los Angeles but never did I have anyone who tells it like it is. Most people who find there sound and have success would not share your knowledge. Thank you and keep it up.
You should've discussed how far the pop filter should be from the mic and the pros and cons of it being closer or farther away from the mic. I'm really liking your videos dude... I'm more of a rock/blues guy, but modern pop music and production intrigues me. You've definitely helped me understand some of the ear candy I hear on the radio and you explain it in a concise, easy to comprehend manner.
Bro - you are honestly my favourite creator on youtube. I find everything you make BEYOND helpful - and as an aspiring producer I have learned so much from you. keep it up man, many blessings!
Austin - This is a GREAT video. I'm so glad I found your channel! Rather than just a bunch of rambling platitudes, you give specific, helpful production advice.
You really make me wish to write some song with you. I've got one ready and it would be quite interesting to see how you could improve it or shift it to another level. 👏🏼👍
Hey this video is awesome. I do have a questions if you don’t mind sharing you opinion on it. When you are recording your vocals do you edit or mix before you start or do you just do a straight raw vocal and then mix after?
I'm starting to experiment with recording vocals without headphones, because I really hate having to have them on, even with one ear off, or both ears half off. It's not very clean, but it seems to work fine. Sade used to track vocals that way :) Maybe not too modern, but the benefits are quite nice for the performer, which increases the performance, which I prefer over processing.
Great video but I was wondering a couple of things if you don't mind. Firstly, is it possible to get great vocals without a large diaphragm condenser microphone? I use a small diaphragm condenser mic and my recordings haven't been the best. I've come to think that any professional mixer can make a vocal sound really good no matter what mic is used but I wanted to get your input on this. I know there are a lot of factors that play into this but about mixing, I record dry and use compression, eq, reverb with short decay, de esser, etc etc. After doing all of these things, my vocals still don't sound very professional. Pitch and timing is fine but they sound very dry and not full and warm. Is there any advice you can give me? I mix in Adobe Audition and have experimented with a lot of things and watched a lot of tutorials. I'd appreciate any advice you can give.
do you think it's worth to use a usb microphone instead of a xlr one? because usb microphones are a lot cheaper then xlr. does the sound change too much?
Daniel Maia I moved from USB to Xlr and tbh I don't really see the difference but it's probably cause I'm not really good at mixing everything but I do think there's a difference actually but I also changed my microphone tho so...
@@liladymusic im already using one xlr microphone, but mine its not so good, and also my audio interface its not so good so i have a lot of background noise and small gain. so im thinking about upgrading for a usb mic like samson c03u or at2020 usb, or buying a new xlr mic and a new audio interface (but this would be a lot more expensive so i don't know if its worth) (sorry bout my english, its not my first language, im brazilian)
Daniel Maia well I hope you'll find what you like ! I'm not a professional about that can't help you more 😂 and don't worry I'm French so my English is sometimes weird tho
Where is generally the best place in an untreated room to make the recording? And do you have any tips to make a bedroom suitable for recording? I guess a closet recording is a bad idea
I like to visualise - as you sing imagine gently pushing your voice through the mic from your diaphragm, and imagine the compression amount and frequency profile you're trying to achieve.
damn i didn't know that clipping within the DAW so long as it's not on the master buss was ok. i started worrying so much about that which i think we negatively affecting my recordings cuz i kept see the volume getting what i thought was too high and then would re adjust everything. so as long as i just don't clip while recording in and make sure the master buss isn't im all good hey?
So if I use an audio interface straight to the mic, a RAW signal without any compression or FX should be at around -6 -8? or do you record with a compressor hitting those levels. sorry if it´s been mentioned) Great video! Very helpful! Keep it going!!!

We paid a lot of money to find out what we won't need. And maybe 10% of something actually useful.
Daily reminder that music education is a scam

USB has the problem of picking up electrinical noises / interference. XLR 100%
Hey. How did you learn all this stuff. Did you go to school? Or is everything self taught
What to do if the tones dont match on each verse? I struggle matching my tone on both verses how can I fix during mix?
what this microphone my friend?
best tshirt bro
This is beneficial asf! Thanks man!
MAD SKILLZ! THANKS!
Fresh mind will do fresh mix
Where is generally the best place in an untreated room to make the recording? And do you have any tips to make a bedroom suitable for recording? I guess a closet recording is a bad idea
Centre of the room for even reflections and kaotica eyeball. Things like curtains, carpets etc absorb sound and help.
Okay... his shirt says "I'm not superstitious but I am a little stituous". The Office is great.

Good tip, I like cues like that.
what mic is that?
hey Austin, I was wondering what you used for the pluck sound at the start of this tune?
Is there a usb on the applo twin because i watched a review on it and it only had a thunderbolt
There is a version for PC
What Cubase Version are you using??
13:37 Cranked the gain after the recording or on the preamp before?

Hi,Vocal recording or music which to do for the first when making a pop song
could you make a video where you talk about sibilance ?
Could you do this type of video with the rohdes nt1-a??
20:08 - you’ll feel nothing when you hear this 🤣🤣🤣
Did you compress in the way inside, because the wave form looks like compressd?
Which microphone is that?
damn i didn't know that clipping within the DAW so long as it's not on the master buss was ok. i started worrying so much about that which i think we negatively affecting my recordings cuz i kept see the volume getting what i thought was too high and then would re adjust everything. so as long as i just don't clip while recording in and make sure the master buss isn't im all good hey?
you're fucking good man. your channel is really on point. keep going man ! thanks for everything

It depends on your voice, mic, room noise and interface he says so in the video. -6 to -8 gives you the most headroom to work with.
You're amazing! Would love to learn from you.
Thank you!!
You are Amazing
