If only Iran can revive its middle-ages monarchy style, with our ex-moderate sunni based religion, it was the golden age! Religion had a gentle influence on social life, and it NEVER interefered with politics. Rather, the clergy were supporting a monarchy based system, which is the Sunni islam style. Unlike our current Shia style that enforces vilayat faghih, which basically creates a clergy dictatorship. People should be aware of such ideologies in order to decide what they want.
Shiasm existed in Arabia, started by Arabs, those of Kufa, Karbala, Hella, Bahrain, Eastern coast of Arabia, Jabal Amel, were the FIRST shias in history and they were ARABS. When Safavis took over Persia, they dragged all those Shia Arabs to enforce Shiasm on Persians who REJECTED it, and then Safavis ended up in wiping out entire towns and cities, similar to how Assad is doing to Syria. Read Dr. Amir Hossein Khonji book on Safavis, and read Dr. Ali Shariati book "The Red Shiasm vs Black Shiasm"
There was VERY minor number of Arabs who settled in Persia in the middle ages, and Persia was NEVER ruled directly by Arabs, rather they had their own IRANIAN dynasties (sunni back then) who embraced/revived the ancient Persian heritage of the Kiyani period. There were NO Arabs in Iran to enforce Arabic language or names, it was PURE Iranians who chose whatever suited them selectively. I'm a native Persian of Shiraz region and I study my native history. During Shiasm, Iran got Turkcified!
During Zoroastrian period, knowledge was restricted to the clergy caste of the society ONLY. Majority of Iranians were actually ILLETRATE! Our ancesstors were smart in terms of adminstration, archeticture, irrigation/agriculture, art, and such practical practises, but core knowledge itself prohibited for public. When Islam came, it opened knowledge for ALL people. Thats the MAIN reason why many Iranians easily adopted aspects of Arabic language (cultural wise), and they were NOT forced to. FACT.
Look at Tajikstan, its Persian, and Sunni-based, & NEVER in its thousands years of history had any problem with religion vs politics. Politics remained LIBERAL, because Sunnism does not interfere with politics. You can see people free to do whatever they want without having someone forcing them on anything. Tajiks are strongly proud of their Persian heritage and Islamic religion as well. They're normal, moderate, just like other neigbhouring sunni based countries. Only issue with us is Shiasm!
