As someone who has been with game for two years and has played the Japanese and localized version, let me tell you that you are in for a wild ride. A lot of us in the beginning we’re disappointed it wasn’t a dating sim, but now, most of the fandom can agree it is WAY BETTER as a rhythm and battle game. The story and characters are what make Twisted Wonderland so awesome! It’s not perfect, obviously. But I highly recommend giving the game a chance.

Idia’s hair will make sense in episode 6 of the main story. It’s only just released in the JP game so it’ll take a while before the English side of the fandom gets the info.
The reason Idia is called Firefly Squid is because Floyd gives everyone nicknames based on marine creatures.
The “manga” you’re reading is the manga anthology, not the official manga illustrated by Toboso Yana. It is a official book, but um… just keep in mind that the art style is a little different
Also you’re actually taking a look at some fanarts in your video soooooo that might have influenced how you interpret the characters. Because while we are very clear that this game is NOT a dating sim, that the fandom still has tons of ship art and plenty of fanarts putting the characters in scenarios the artist likes (for example the Savanaclaw art you keep using)
I… I don’t know where you’re taking character info from but they’re simultaneously accurate and inaccurate. I understand that you can’t go in depth for a video like this but I promise Azul’s backstory is not as lame as it sounds on whatever info you’re reading. Most of the characters are truly well-written characters whose backstory link intricately into their behaviours and ideologies (and voice acting nuances) that can’t be understood from a wiki article.

I also think it’s insane how he skimmed right over Rook Hunt, since he’s I think the most insane character. In the whole game I think! And also especially how the effects of Azul’s bullying is skimmed over in the wiki (ie: the multiple references of him having disordered eating, and his obsession w erasing his past)
@@mozart4344 In his defence I think nearly all Twst characters are too complex to be summed up in a wiki entry. Rook is, of course, one example because you really have to look at his behaviours and judge by yourself.
Actually all of Pomefiore are an example, just from very little details that people who play the game can misunderstand. Some people used to hate on Vil because they think he shouldn’t tell Epel to get rid of his accent right? Now, in a wiki entry, it might sound very offensive and disrespectful. But in actuality, Epel’s accent is so strong that others are legit having a hard time understanding him, and Vil is teaching him how to present himself effectively.
Someone who only reads a wiki entry on Epel might also be oblivious to the flaws in his ideals pre-chapter 5. It’s really in chapter 5 that you see he’s honestly very narrow minded in his pursuit for his so-called masculinity that he disregarded the strengths that he is born with.
Anyway I’m not saying this to dis the video because it’s already a lot of research for a non-player. I’m just hoping people don’t take the wiki entries as the full picture 😂

Getting people into this entire series is like a really long “Dude, just trust me! It’s actually really good!” I’ve been into this game for 2 years, so I’ve gotten a bit used to some of the far out elements of the game. I just hope that when the anime gets announced, it’ll get more people into the fandom. I truly like this series.

There are 2 mangas actually, the one with short stories and one that follows the game plot. The MC has been replaced with Yuukun (no he is not the same as yuu (the player)). The one that follows the plot isn't past the 1 chapter of the game as of yet.
Technically the JP version of the game has the most content as its up to chapter 6 (yes there is now a english version of the game but only up to chapter 3 as the time this comment is written and personality of some characters have changed).
I hope that cleared some things.
Plus there is also a novel out now in JP with another protag. In the TWST reddit there are post discussing about the similarities and differences of all the mediums

To make you love Idia's hair more is it, like Hades' is a mood ring. The tips get pink when flustered and it can flare orange. We only see this in his character cards though. I love this crazy little universe Yana has made. Also we only get mad about the otome/dating sim thing because it caused a huge bit of drama early on. Admittedly, there are a few lines easily taken out of context to where most players just go "Not an otome game MY ASS!"

The potential Iago character I think may have been alluded to in a firework event that took us to Kalim and Jamil’s homeland which was honestly my favorite event so far. It was chill and everyone had fun. Even Jamil in the end enjoyed himself.

@@bloodysparkles5372 to help there are 3 characters that are confirmed to use light magic. Kalim (sultan/aladdin), Silver (sleeping beauty/prince Philip/the sword), and Rook (the castle hunter) they are all based on heros in one was or another.
I have been stanning Lilia for like 6 months before the ENG version came out so when I saw the news that TWST was getting an English version, I got it on the first day it came out

There’s English fan-translations of the TWST storyline on YT, if you still want to know about the main story. There might be some videos with the official translations. (Just a note, the fan and official translations are *really* different at times. Official ones being just a bit more “out there” with localizations, but both are good.)
I love Obey me but it never felt like a dating sim. It felt more like a "babysitting and fix this dysfunctional family sim"

I really like the events and personal stories, they give us more information about the boy's backgrounds as well as character's relationships's with each other.
Like how in the Harveston/Kerrkalot event when Epel questioned Jade about his family and he told him he lived with his parent's, Floyd, and his grandmother but when Epel tried to pry further about them Jade's answer was just 'yes' instead of explaining. I found this really interesting cause there's a theory that the tweels might be from a yakuza family. And that made me think maybe that's why he didn't want to talk about them. The tweels being from a yakuza family theory comes from what the morray eels are known as in japanese 'gangsters of the sea', as well as something Jade said from his first b-day card personal story.
I remember Kingdom hearts when I was younger. I used to love to play it and see all the characters. It was really fun.

The game has had an English translation sub for about two months now. Although I imagine that this was recorded before the English release, so I understand why you would say it only had a Japanese exclusive release.
It did have a Japan only release for well over a year and a half.
Also just to point out some stuff out!
- The romance bits you read do not come from the manga, and rather from the "Disney Twisted Wonderland Comic Anthology", which is basically an officially sold fanzine.
They are, as stated on the beginning on the book, not canon, but rather a compilation of fan made stories from different artists, and that's why the art style changes all the time with each story.
- However, Yana Toboso has released an official manga if you are curious about it, but even the lore of the manga is completly separated from the lore of the games, or as she put it "the manga's canon is not the game series canon". So, it might be that we will get a different canon for the Anime as well. :o
Who knows yet!
- There are no romantic interactions whatsoever neither in the games nor in the manga. The characters can be at best very friendly to you and you can make your own interpretations about it, but that's about it. It's more about highschool life shenanigans and adventure.
- I think partially the reason why the community tries to make it understood that this is not a romance game is just so it doesn't get stuck in a "niche". Some people don't care for romance in games, or don't like games that are geared towards romance, and TW instead has a lot to offer. The writing and humor are excellent, and I went in thinking it would have romantic tones, but found instead that that it reads more like a shonen manga.
An aromantic friend of mine almost passed up on the game because they thought it would about that too, but they were pleasantly surprised to find out it can pretty much be enjoyed by everyone instead.
- Not to say fans can't have their own interpretations! Ship yourself/oc or your favorite pairings, but that's the standard to any communities i think. :D

I downloaded this game shortly after it was released in the US and it has consumed ALL of my free time. I think about these characters way more than I ever expected and I've been exploring everything Twisted Wonderland related. I'm so friggin' hyped for the anime. I hope it has multiple seasons!

Anyway, there's already an english localization and yeah its something. I do hope u enjoy the anime whenever it releases.

I mean the reason why the fandom is pretty insistent if it’s not being an dating sim/romantic ties to the characters is because people assume that’s what it is. It not only keeps people from lower expectations going into the game as that’s what many people wanted but also just,,, the fandom really seemed to have some shitty aspects when released. Due to the misconception of their being romance it delve into a lot of drama not only between fandom shipping of canon characters but what all of this meant for the MC if there was any romantic hints. It was brutal and honestly not fun to be apart of or witness.
There are obviously sides to the community who are into the shipping culture and for the most part it’s fine, no one expects there to be shipping, but it’s made fairly clear that that is far separate from the canon/how fans treat each other over the characters and ya know- not harass them. It’s partly why it’s important to remember aspects of the manga aren’t fully related to the game as this also caused people to just lose their minds and be absolutely horrendous to other players all because of these what shouldn’t be serious things.
After all the game itself is more of a battle-slice of life story which likely will have some mystery aspects if they continue to further the plot beyond the main houses. When the fandom can be civil it’s a nice game that offers a lot to it and interesting ideas but there is a reason why people often feel defensive because the western fandom has a pretty bad reputation from before it’s NA release… at least from experience.
Edit; also jpn culture to Disney feels much different than the west which is a huge part in it, plus even the idea to get pasted production makes sense why it might have taken so long. Considering what was popular app games in the 2000s eh, I don’t think I would have actually worked outside of concept and even then would have had to deal with far more competitors with Disney’s market. And while the villains are the basis for some of the concepts they really aren’t a major role, you don’t need to love old school Disney villains or be up to day with their characters to get the game it’s much more focused on antagonistic characters with cool designs. Most people I know who play don’t really care about Disney at all, myself included, that aspect is just sorta there
i think you can find some playthroughs i remember watching some but i didn't really understand the plot that well i thought it looked good but couldn't find it in English and captions only get you so far also, there are some really good cosplays of these characters

i love twisted wonderland, honestly. i'm fully caught up in the english release of the game (chapter 4 part 1) and love every second of it. was even thinking of trying to get my hands on some of the figurines, broaden my collection a bit from the almost completely one piece with a bit of random funko collection it currently is. Started playing the game a few days ago, as the game has legally been ported to the US. It DOES start off a little… meh, BUT… yeah, once the story starts kicking in, it becomes addictive.
The, “game play”, is still just meh, BUT the story itself that’s building is getting fun. And I’m really impressed with the character animations. They kind of remind me of some of the higher end Vtubers I’ve seen here and on Twitch. Very impressive!

Didn’t even know you covered TW, but as for the romance aspect of it, there’s like tiny bits of it in the game. Especially from Ace Trappola who’s a bit on the fine line of “romantic”. As in he asks to sleep in your bed since he got kicked out of Heartslabyul in the first chapter- To his disappointment, he sleeps on your dorm’s busted up couch. There’s more than that but it’s all I can remember from him 😅
