    I’ve been knitting for 20 years and crocheting for less than a year and while knitting is easier on the hands, crocheting is way more addictive. It’s been easier to learn more complicated projects and I find myself trying things that look a little harder, but so far have been able to make everything: stuffed animals, bags, tops. With knitting I’ve just made scarves and hats pretty much. Both are fun but crocheting is a little bit more of an instant gratification for me, and more personal as I’m able to customize the pattern easier. With knitting, everything has to be planned or it won’t work. And if you drop a stitch, forget about it. I just start over. Crochet is less stressful because you only have one working loop, so there’s way less that can go wrong. Knitting is more like baking and crocheting is more like cooking. Both are good, but I’m so happy I learned how to crochet and I wish I had learned way sooner.

    I was just like you regarding the knitting versus crocheting thing. But I found out that was because my mom tried to teach me to knit using English style knitting, and telling me the things I wanted to do, like hold my yarn in the left hand, was wrong. I found Continental knitting hear it on TH-cam and now I can knit! Continental style knitting feels almost like crochet. And if you learn Continental combination, it's even easier for us crocheters!

    If you crochet, you can knit. You already have a lot of skills like tension and material handling down. If you need any tips, just shoot me a message. Very pink knits has a lot of great tutorials. Also, try continental knitting, I find people who crochet relate to this type of knitting.

    Almost all my yarn is upcycled yarn. Its honestly fun to find different sweaters and ive reverse learned how to structure sweaters and stuff. With how much textile waste exists its trying to make my impact less

      Being resourceful is an efforltess way to achieve unique and one of a kind peices. Like a blanket made from scrap yarn in random colours, it is almost unreplicatable.
      A local craft store near me had a sale last year, all their yarn was 70% off, and I had a half-brilliant idea to buy a shit load of white and beige yarn so I could dye them if I wanted different coloures in the future. I ended up knitting a bunch of stuff with the yarn undyed and dyed the peices afterwards and it made some unusually and uniquely satisfying colours and tones. I knitted a beige sweater and hat and tried to dye them baby blue, but they came out the most beautiful extraordinary sea foamy greeny aqua colour, and I'm kinda glad.

    my hot take is making crochet bags ANNOYS me. they always stretch

    • @briannasipp
      @briannasipp  ปีที่แล้ว +22

      true, that’s why it’s important to line them! Even if you can’t sew, it would be a fairly simple thing to hand sew to prevent stretching!

    • @JanethOlivia
      @JanethOlivia ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not if you line them :)

    • @xelenaboo4447
      @xelenaboo4447 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also depends on the yarn you’re using, acrylic is super stretchy

      @@briannasippsomething helpful I learned too is you can puncture fabric with smaller like doiley crochet hooks and then just crochet across the top!

    Recently I reached a point to where I prefer to buy yarn at a brick and mortar store. The yarn colors on the websites are not same as seeing them in person. When the color of the crochet project is most important, I buy the yarn at a brick and motor store. When I am just taking advantage of a sale and free shipping, I buy yarn online.

    • @briannasipp
      @briannasipp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely agree! Honestly I don’t remember the last time I purchased yarn offline because the colors aren’t the most accurate plus I like feeling the yarn especially if it’s one I never purchased before

      I buy all yarn at physical stores too cuz I like… I gotta feel it with my hands.

    I learned how to knit in my teens but it hurts my thumbs/ hands just moving the needle back and forth.
    So I just stick to crocheting…I’m a lot faster and it’s not too stressful on my hand

    4:47 I Don’t use the same yarn as in any tutorials
    I just use what I have/want and match my hook to what I have
    In the end the pattern is the same

    6:03 idk how to knit or even begin to learn however I have heard crochet is more beginner friendly than knitting

    For those who like the look of knitting but find it easier to crochet, try Tunisian Crochet. It has knit and purl stitches and you can get a similar look but with a crochet hook. Not as hard to learn as knitting to boot.

    Love it! ❤️ The gauge or swatch thing is just not for me for real and yes I agree you don’t need it to make a good outfit or whatever it is you’re making.

    Hot take: I don’t like chenille yarn. I hate how it feels and I don’t really like how it looks, especially for amigurumi.
