As a race night worker in the early 2000's I used to take up to Paul the nights refreshments and his dinner. He was always free with his time, polite and considerate. But most of all very informative. He loved the sport of greyhound racing and all of it's characters. He was always well spoken and presented and just plain and simply, an amazing greyhound race caller. His eye for a dog in running was extremely accurate and it was a skill he defined over many decades of racing at Harold Park and Wentworth Park. He just recently turned up at Lithgow and called a few races on Lithgow Muzzle cup day and it was amazing to hear his broadcast voice once again. Thanks for the memories Paul.
touching tribute. great caller with a sense of humor and timing. i remember the time i was called up at short notice to box a dog. never done it before on outside tracks, let alone in town. first 4 dogs were boxed, then we were called up. all other dogs were in but my one proved troublesome. he said "tiani storm is in" and with a pause " i think !" she ran down the track but we had a story to tell for the rest of our lives. happy retirement PA
A beautiful guy, a rare talent who made a race call a sort of opera for the punters of all manner and ilk. Thank you P A for the good vibes. By the way i am one of those ex-pub 'barfly' types who just loved to hear the race call for it was a few moments of truth, something which our old world could do more of.
I had the pleasure of meeting Paul about 12 years ago when he used to call races during the October long weekend carnival in Coonamble he was a wonderful man who I deeply respected.
Legend...I grew up hearing the dulcet tones of P.A on my uncles transistor. I used to love his calling style even as such a young kid. What a true professional. His name is synomous with greyhound racing. A massive loss to the industry. But what a magical career. All the best P.A
What a void Paul has left in retirement.Created great theatre, could well read a race, genuinely tried to tip punters a winner and I doubt we will ever see his like again.Your dulcet tones provided a back drop to greyhound punters lives all over NSW..Best wishes in retirement.
I'm from New Zealand and i will always re-call listening to the Easter eggs or maiden races they were always called a similar exciting tone. I look up to him and use some of his quotes in my race-calls here in New Zealand.
I had the privilege of standing with Paul in the Broadcast box on the opposite side of the track & listen to his call of Worth Doing winning a young star or Peter Mosman in 87/88.
Was the best caller 2KY had . Pity he didn't get the top racing job. Best race caller Australia has seen. I used to get excited listening to him do the De Costi Seafood adds.
I miss the occasional tangents and waffle PA could go on with, I miss hearing about the world class qualities of de bortoli plonk. What I miss the most though was his upbeat, excited, positive attitude and his ability to convey a sense of feeling that made you feel as if you were there and he was talking to you and you alone. Couldn't have hung the microphone up at a better time if you tried Mr. PA. With the wall-to-wall, blink and you'll miss is it, tv racing schedule these days, there's little to no time for a caller to be themselves and express their personality to the listener, which is very unfortunate imo. Thanks for being a part of many great.... and well, let's not kid ourselves here...some not so great memories Paul. I hope retirement and post callers box life is everything you wished for!

Will go down as one of Australia's greyhound racing legends racecallers. An icon of the sport.
How did 4 people not like this tribute to such an iconic caller
Because they’re thick
The best there ever was and will ever be.
