You guys do a great job with these before/after track tests. Explaining all the differences in the car between the two tests is great because it gives us a clear picture as to what caused the improvement in lap time. Keep up the awesome videos!
And another note, on your helmet mounted GoPro you are blowing out the brightness. A way to solve the issue on the newer model GoPros without having to manually lock the exposure every time, is to simply set the ProTune setting to -2.0 EV. It will darken the car interior but it's more the view of the track that we are interested in. It also persists through power cycles of the camera so you won't need to set it every time.
I feel like even their main camera for recording is a bit washed out. Maybe the overcast added to it but yeah. Definitely whoever the editor is should take a look at calibrating their monitor or maybe viewing their edited files on a diff monitor than they edited on to color correct!
@@TankRust thanks for the kind words, and ya something was off with the GoPro settings this day. Normally we run them stopped down one or two stops so the view out the windscreen isn't blown out.
Awesome video. I just bought a twin (BRZ) and I find it more fun to drive than my track built evo. I think the frs/brz is one of the most underrated cars.
Blight wish i did a little more shopping, kind of young and was my first real car so the first one i found i just jumped on it , i could have got one with 30,000kms for $3,000 cheaper then what i got mine with 60,000kms for
@@bash7teen Actually, my car is 2012! They were out in Australia for 6 months in 2012, and I got mine delivered just before Christmas. But yeah, i wouldn't worry about kms. I'm at the point now where I should really sell it, but I'm just going to keep it - its worth more to me than I think it is to the market.
I certainly love FRS/BRZ's and I CERTAINLY love built Honda's (personally owned over 100 and built countless more during 12yrs of shop ownership) but seeing the track time board is a vivid reminder why in 2010 I transitioned to Corvette. For a dual use, daily drive capable and comfortable, reliable, yet potent track weapon...you cannot beat Corvettes...namely C5Z's (though C6Z is what they have on the board). If you're on the fence of C6Z vs C5Z; if track work is on your radar, go C5Z certainly...cheaper consumables, LS6 is one of the best HPDE engines in the LS line (LS7 valve guide issues, LS3 rod oiling issues) A mildly modified C5Z is a reliable track weapon and you simply start from a higher level of chassis than say a 88-00 Honda or even a BRZ (though, the chassis is quite exceptional). The investment in the FRS, car included (easily 40k)...you could built a purely potent C5Z for a 30k investment (car included), with better resale and destroy that leader board.
Lol no old Vette has a better chassy than the twins. On an AutoX track a Vette doesn't stand a chance. Nor on a track that isn't 80% straights and high speed corners. The owner of the Tskuba record is the HKS 86 race car too so saying it dosent have as much potential as a Corvette is stupid. Good day
Hey guys, great video. Any chance you could do a track brake pad shootout? I don't know the logistics behind it but it would be cool to compare endless, hawk, ferodo ds, ebc and the like.
I can vouch for Hawk pads that's all I use or need. They bite HARD and work perfectly at the track. But dusty for street rims. EBC yellow feels like stock with no fade less dust. Brake noise can be reduced with one hard track session. EBC slotted and dimpled rotors are amazing though, probably the best out there.
another great video. Keep it up! constructive criticism: idk if there are any settings that you can change on the gopro but today it was very difficult to see out the front window during the POV shots. Just seemed like too much exposure or something. (I'm no camera expert)
To fix the now loose issue, I wonder if it would be better to work on mechanical grip vs putting more wing in it? That is unless your loose only in high speed sections. Love to see results like these. Good video.
The loose condition was really just in the higher speed corners, she's still pulling 1.4g or more in the corners so to me it felt like and aero imbalance rather than a mechanical grip issue. Would have been interesting to try adding some more wing before touching the chassis setup to see how much of the imbalance was aero related, but we'll definitely get deeper into that next year.
I see that the Driveway Labs diffuser is gone now because of the Tomei exhaust. That probably contributed more to the aero imbalance than the new splitter.
hopefully this car competes in time attack here in toronto. i realize it is not the goal of SA but would be neat to see this car in comparison to other cars in its class
We did race it in the Ontario1500 a couple years ago. Full playlist of all 7 days of racing on our channel. We would love to race it again here or in the States, though. Hopefully we can make that happen next year.
I co-sign this statement to support your regions scene. Though the car itself has done Pikes Peak with Vancouver crew VCMC, then Dave and Pete got it and did Targa Newfoundland. It's had a good life on both sides of Canadia already and next year should only get better.
Looking good boys! You guys should look in to a 2017+ intake manifold, bigger throttle body and an upgraded dampener pulley. Should net you some good gains up top. Also look in to a lighter battery and carbon drive shaft. That will shed over 30 pounds and bump up the power-to-weight! =)
What benefit does the 2017+ intake manifold have? It’s metal not plastic, that’s all from what I can tell. Not to mention it’s a pricy mod for what you get...nothing
It has a better intake design. It has been tested on forced induction application and makes good results up top. Big power set-ups are seeing around 20hp gain.
So I understand the "boxer growl" subie fans love, it does sound awesome. But won't it make better power on an equal length header vs the un-equal length?
Could you look into doing a dashcam instead of the helmet cam? The contrast is too high for the camera which leads to a nicely exposed interior but hardly any visibility to the outside
Love it guys thanks for the content! When the Integra is done it woul be cool to come up to your neck of the woods and do a colab vid with the new k24 going in the car!
Amazing results but further reinforces what a great value the C6 Z06 really is! Stock on 300 tread tires vs. heavily modified on 100 tread. Also, I'd bet a used Z06 is cheaper, more reliable, and would have far better resale when you're done with it.
Want to compare again with similar tire size? Forget treadwear, the Z06 likely has 300+ width tires. This thing is regular sized NANKANGS! The other thing is the Vette will never feel like the FRS agility wise so they're barely comparable. I hear you about the high performance level out of the box though. FWIW the v8 Mustang is apparently pretty quick with a few mods too. Look up Vorshlag for data on the new Stang and what he had to do to make it faster. Not trying to compare the stang to the Vette though, so don't go there hehe.
Buy one in Aus. and build it there... much cheaper and readily available. I have no clue why so many teams ship cars all over the world. You'd lose a lot of time in transit alone, plus $.
Hey! just wondering did you guys drop compression ratio on this motor when adding the supercharger? Just wondering what your guys thoughts are on the longevity of this motor running at this boost. I work for Subaru Canada and would love to speak with you guys further about some things :)
The engine is internally stock, so no change to compression ratio. We've had zero reliability issues with the Jackson Racing kit on the car for 3 years now, and have done 30+ track days including 7 in a row during the Ontario1500 event (full video series of that event on our channel). This was all with the lower boost pulley at 272-whp. We think at 312-whp we're at the upper limit of our comfort zone for reliability on the stock engine. If we step up to the larger C38 Rotrex supercharger we'd build the bottom end at that point, but I don't think we'd drop the compression ratio since superchargers (especially centrifugal ones like the Rotrex) respond more like a naturally aspirated engine so keeping the compression ratio up is preferred. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail at dave@speed.academy if you'd like to chat more.
I think there's a few more tenths still eh Dave? I would expect more time shaved off with power, aero and pads if I'm honest. Maybe it's also because TMP is compact so 1 second is a lot of time there. Either way the car looks like it's driving way better. Kilt it.
It is a tight track so 1-second is definitely a solid improvement. There is more time in it, though, I agree. I would think a low 18 or high 17 is there under better conditions (it was cold and windy, so the tires probably weren't getting fully up to temp, and there was a fair bit of slower traffic on the track as well).
Why is it still a full second slower from 100-160 than my full interior frs? I'm exactly at 312whp and my car weights 1238kg. The downforce drag is probably killing it. You car now has a 270whp equivalent up from 230whp.

You have to pit after heating up tires to adjust tire pressures again. Also it's not the +40 whp that made it fun, it was the low end torque from the supercharger. Still needs more power though or a better engine swap for a full track car.

more wing is just going to slow you down. adjust the looseness with suspension and tire first

We haven't done anything on this car, but it really depends on the oiling system design. We do run baffled oil pans on many of our other cars to combat oil starving in high g corners.
Any updates? How's it holding up on the hbp?
And the race it? Cool build tho
are you guys running 93 e85 or race fuel on this hbp?
Thats a lot of changes besides +40whp my guess is you gain more from aero than the power
Does it have build internals
What exhaust setup?

Good ole twin seat belt ding
I wonder how it would drive without the cage in the car? 🤔
Welcome To The Madness lighter but sloppier chassis, the structural rigidity of the cage isn’t to be looked over either
How’s the transmission holding up?
So far so good! Same transmission we ran at Targa Newfoundland and the Ontario1500, plus probably 20 track days locally.
Speed Academy awesome! That makes me feel good about my transmission :)
More hp make us all giddy!
You have to pit after heating up tires to adjust tire pressures again. Also it's not the +40 whp that made it fun, it was the low end torque from the supercharger. Still needs more power though or a better engine swap for a full track car.
What oil do you run?
Valvoline Pro-V in a w30.
Time to adjust the rear spring rate. About 75-85 lbs higher.
I think that would create more oversteer.
you bought the wrong gopro. i didnt see gopro overexpose like that sins like go pro 2. or white editions
