  • The Panavia Tornado was designed and built through the cooperation of a number of nations including the UK, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. The Tornado entered Royal Air Force service in 1980 as the GR.Mk1 but didn't face it's combat debut until a decade later, when, in 1991 they took part in Operation GRANBY, which was the British contribution to the Gulf War.
Repainted in desert pink to help camouflage the aircraft, they were used to great success to neutralise enemy ground defences using both guided and unguided munitions. The Tornado was designed with variable geometry wings which swept back to achieve high speeds and extended to improve slower speed handling.
Capable of reaching over Mach 2 and armed with not only an internally mounted 27mm cannon, but also a variety of air to air and air to ground munitions, the tornado became part of the backbone of the RAFs defensive and offensive aircraft. Receiving many upgrades over its long service life it was finally withdrawn from the RAF in 2019.

Well done for not leaving it on the ‘shelf of doom’ 😀 I’ve built a couple of Revell 1:144 kits, they are quite nice with much more detail. Quite like doing a quick 1:144 every now and then. Nice build 👍

People are saying that your modelling isnt right and its done wrong, but there is no "proper perfect" way to build a kit, its how YOU build and as long as it looks like that plane it should look like, then im happy.

Nice save ! I have the Dragon version of this aircraft in this scheme. It's been on the " to build" stack for a while. Seeing your build of the Academy version may spurr me to break it out and finally build it. It has excellent discreet panel lines and an accurate selection of underwing stores. The only place it falls down is in the cockpit. A blob like aglommeration to represent pilots, and seats,,with no other interior details.
I have always liked the look of the Tornado, and 1/144th is my go-to scale for aircraft these days. I live in a small place with limited display space so the smaller kits are simply more practical.
    Thanks for the video!

    • @ModelMinutes

Thanks for the info, despite the cockpit issues on the dragon kit it still sounds like it will be a good build

@@ModelMinutes Thanks for the reply! If you can find any of the Dragon 1/144th range, I highly recommend them. Although they are getting scarce these days, there is a large number of cold-war era jets and helicopters , both western and east-bloc in a variety of markings.
While the parts are often attached by massive sprue gates at times, they are very nicely done for the scale for their era. Decal sheets were well printed and in register, with stencils and weapon decals included. Again, the place where they fall down is the cockpit. I've scratchbuilt interiors with these in my previous builds, but it requires a bit of head-scratching, test fitting and scratchbuilding ship-in-a-bottle style!
Thanks again ! Looking forward to see what you build next! Ever try one of the classic Airfix 1/600 ships?

Beautifully done and a great video build again. I love the Tonka. I built 2 of these. I had exactly the same progress as you. First one was brush painted and I was just a newbie to scale modeling back then. I wasn't too happy with the paint job initially so 4 years later (2020) is when I built one more. This time it was airbrushed and I scratch built a few weapons to depict what this jet carried during the Gulf War. I scratch built three 250kg bombs, the Thomson chaff dispenser, and a JP233 runway cratering bomblet dispenser. Overall the second time it turned out much better. I felt a bit of scratch building did add on to the looks of it. But for an extremely cheap kit it was worth the effort. Please do follow me on Instagram. I'd like to share my work with you too.

The Gulf War is really a war that despite being fairly recent is quite an untold war, brutal as hell, 6 weeks of fighting lead to 30-100,000 Iraqis KIA with the loss of 147 combat fatalities in Coalition forces, 1 day 2 A10 Warthogs knocked out 23 Iraqi tanks, Battle of 73 Easting between VII Corps and 3 Iraqi tank divisions with 4 Infantry divisions, US Lost 1 man killed in action and 1 Bradley, compared to the Iraqi losses as high as 1000 KIA and 85 tanks destroyed, short and brutal war but gets little media attention (only a handful of films made about Desert Storm and Desert Shield)
