  • tina turner africa, tina turner funeral : Tina Turner's Regret over Concert in Apartheid South Africa - Tina Turner dies at age 83 . The superstar Tina Turner, hailed as a music legend was known for captivating her audience with her melodic tunes and electrifying performances. With her passing on 24 May 2023 in her home in Switzerland, many people are remembering the iconic music artist she was, and how her performances and concerts were always so energetic. Although she has passed, her legacy remains in the lives of many people worldwide.
Regrettably, while some individuals hold fond memories of Tina Turner's musical achievements, others find themselves discussing controversial choices she made throughout her career. I'm an African, growing up my mom would blast Tina records as we cleaned and stuff, we used to sit n watch her biopic and have little mother to daughter chats about life and relationships, she was an inspiration to me...seeing this video hurt my soul a little bit, I would have never thought that she, who had her power stripped away from her would label other victims of abusive power "weak".
I still love her music and admire her strength of spirit to survive what she has but I don't view her the same.

I once read about two British 🇬🇧 dancers - one black, one white - involved in a car crash in SA 🇿🇦. Only the white guy was flown to the hospital in a helicopter 🚁 but the black guy was left behind, and remained in that state for hours until a black ambulance 🚑 service arrived. He was denied proper treatment at the hospital 🏥 because of his race, and by the time he was given honorary white status it was too late. He lost the use of his legs, which put an end to his dancing 🕺 career.

@@rafaelw8115 your facts are wrong, Tina never once messed with her skin tone, not ever, I used to think she was lighter until I met her, she was considerably dark in person, she's also never worn blonde wigs if I have to be pedantic, they were more of a brown tone. Of course her image changed after Ike but it changed to fit the type of music she was getting into at the time, for a longtime she wanted to be a rock icon like the Rolling Stones and fill stadiums, her image had to obviously fit that, only makes sense and she has since lived in a white world for obvious reasons, her music is predominantly white, her fans are white and she desperately wanted to leave America so that she never ever bumps into Ike again. Her new world in Europe is a world dominated by white people but the notion that she went into that world because she didn't wanna be black is myopic and silly, it's very important to understand her decisions around the context of her life

She had a turbulent life and had grown to be aloof to the geopolitical meat grinder that was in South Africa during the Cold War. She had a white partner and certain things deviate one from who they are. It’s all done now,she later toured South Africa after Apartheid and was happier after fall of that brutal regime that enjoyed support from US govt during the Cold War. It’s a lesson to us to embrace who we are and refuse such demeaning classifications as “honorary white”.
This reminds me of a very infamous incident in sport when New Zealand rugby team used to tour Aparthied South Africa, they would drop all their players who had Māori blood and only select white players,so they can appease the host regime. One day they selected a dark skinned Fijian guy and since he was so good in Rugby, they insisted on picking him to play. After some tense negotiations with govt officials,he was classified as honorary white and the matches went ahead. Needless to say, that Dark skinned Fijian guy dazzled during the matches, scored tries and helped New Zealand beat South Africa,he also won over the black South African fans who rooted for him with passion. That turned out to be his last tour of South Africa as selectors could not pick him again on such a tour as it stirred passions amongst blacks. Many years after he retired, after apartheid had collapsed,he visited South Africa again and got a hero’s welcome,he is proud of having made such an impact during tough times,as blacks idolised him.
When Australia toured South Africa in 1992,they also selected a Tongan born player called Willi Offahangue and he immediately became a hit among black South African fans who always rooted for opposition teams. I remember watching a documentary about those 2 rugby players back in 1999,it was a great documentary. Hope someone can upload it on TH-cam and this channel must share it. That truly puts into perspective how horrendous that apartheid regime was.

I would say that, in 79 Tina needed money to get on her feet. I think her divorce was finalized in 78, and what money she made was taken before she got it to pay a huge debt cause be Ike. I can't blame her for the choice she made to survive to do what SHE needed to do, because no one else was going to do it for her. At that time, she was considered a has been and washed up.
