I love the straw matting you used! I have not seen anything like that before. Around here everyone uses regular straw, which never lasts or protects the seeds well. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us! Be blessed! ❤️
I like this idea! My Grandfather taught us to spread seed in March on top of snow and then let nature take it's course. He believed that. the grass seed would make good contact due to being wet from the snow. My Mother and Dad did this religiously each year and we had a great lawn. They used Kentucky Bluegrass in Zone 5. What do you think of this idea?
I’ve never seen a straw mat like that. I may need to use that next year. I also put my pre emergent on my grass in the spring around and away from the seeded area.
Those germination blankets are the best. The only problem I have had is once 3 weeks of germinating happens, I like to remove them which is hard when you remove from a large area. I don't leave them even though it says degradable
Ooohh thanks for sharing this with us. I’m in MO and boy do I have some areas. Question, I’m assuming the grass will grow up in the mat and it’s not something you will have to remove???You made this very simple. Thanks so much.
@@bsilentmusic as long as the temps are above 50°, you can use tenacity. You can use it in spring since it is a weed preventer. It also kills weeds, but it does it slowly. It. Prevents photosynthesis.
Ive always just used peat mulch over seeds to prevent some dry off and birds from eating the seeds. I've never tried wintwr sowing tho...so wondering if its the same as the straw blanket?

I have never done it, but I'm sure it would work too.

Good advice.
Good info, Michelle. Did not know to do this.
Thanks for watching!

no the matt will break down all on it's own
Would you share the brand/name of the straw covering blanket pls? It is too perfect and I can’t find anything like it. Thank you!
Quick Grass Pro - It was the 4' x 100" roll. I bought it at a store called Menards
Michelle, when in the Spring do you remove the cover? Thank you
Tenacity can be used as a weed preventer when you seed without harming the seed.
Hope this isn’t a dumb question lol but do you mean right after you put the seed down or in the spring when it starts to grow?

A straw blanket is what you put over the seed. Sometimes you can buy it with the seed in it, most of the time not.
