This video is funny in hindsight. As it is s testament of how 1 wave of good support (or a Skill in Duel Links) can push a deck's viability up to meta threat
Yugioh Duel LInks makes some of the worst decks according to the TCG shine hard. In Duel links you see all kinds of variety, but feels like TCG, if it's not Tears or Sprights or whatever meta threat of the week is.... it's not worth playing at all. At least the Purrely's are cute. Wish there were more strong Beast cards, those tend to be my favorite and sadly...generally the worst.
@@MarioMastar I think because the Duel Links banlist is harsher. As not Only the "You can Only use 1 of this category (1, 2, or 3)" is a harsher restriction, And then some Skills add more restrictions, but a bigger payoffs
It really kinda is; the deck wanted to turtle up since it started. The Link gave it the chance to play for damage by using Soprano Mozarta to make Prima. I like the visuals and Mels have always been pretty easy to use.
I am one of those four Melodious players. It's one of my favorite pet decks that I play just for fun. Can't wait to get the new support in about a week.
Funny story, several years ago on Dueling Book, I was messing around with a fun deck of mostly flip effect monsters, when this guy played some super competitive meta deck against me, and I was getting destroyed until I used Summoner of Illusions to go into Bloom Diva, and he actually admitted that he had no way to out it and gave up.
You forgot two other cards of the archetype, Fortissimo and Pianissimo, fortissimo being a bad fusion spell card that gave a melodious monster +800 attack, and Pianissimo being a good quickplay spell card that saw play in other decks.
Here’s an idea for a Field Spell for the archetype, and as many other musical/entertainment themed ones as I could find on short notice (although I’m sure I missed many MANY more) _Amphitheatre Almighty_ Field Spell _(This card is always an “Melodious”, “Orcust”, “Trickstar”, “Symphonic”, “Lunalight”, “Performapal”, “Performage”, “Abyss Actor”, “Despia”, “Djinn”, and “Lyrilusc” card)_ _You can conduct 1 additional normal summon/set, and 1 additional Pendulum Summon, per turn. You can apply each of the following effects of “Amphitheatre Almighty” once per turn:_ _⚪️If you summon a monster that mentions any of the above mentioned names in its names or text, you can add 1 spell/trap to your hand (from your deck or GY) that does so as well._ _⚪️If you Activate a Spell/Trap that mentions any of the above mentioned names in its names or text, you can add 1 Monster to your hand (from your deck or GY) that does so as well._
Melodious is actually making a small rouge engine showing (as of posting) in some meta decks like Snake-Eyes due to Ostentado giving bodies for link climbing. The new support is actually making Melodious not as bad as it was back then. Maybe they can compose a high level spotlight number sometime soon.
When the Melodious family alongside with the Polymerization+Fusion combo families gets the extra bonus new cards in the forms of the new Members+Supports as well as the retrains and then the certain moments of the Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V Anime references again, even if it also truly means over and over again. In return, the Melodious as a whole Deck in the realm of the Yu-Gi-Oh competitive META ways will be an even more deadly competitive META rogue Deck and beyond.
13:37 Honestly, how often has "Mediocre" been more appropriate than "Failed?" Anyway, if these are criticized as an archetype only deck, any chance of "archetypes that do not exclude all other cards" as a mechanic? I mean, they clearly said you could splash any LIGHT Fairy, so...?
Well based on the other "Failed archetypes" there's 2 ways a deck is considered "Failed": 1. The deck can't stand on it's own because it just doesn't compare to other decks released at the time in spite of power creep (what's the deck's win condition? If there is none but having bigger bodies, then it loses to blue eyes by default) 2. The deck's own mechanics contradict or rely on the opponent to play ball to pull off. (Ally of Justice. if your opponent isn't playing Light monsters, you're basically playing with a bunch of vanillas. Or Vehicroids which are versatile, but because "Vehicroid" is a fan term more than the archetype, most of the effects don't work with the same cards in the archetype and ironically are used with cards that are completely irrelevant to the gameplan (Dark Jeroid?) You can still play them and probably get some wins with them against lower level opponents, but the general baseline is "If the archetype can't beat the vanilla Blue eyes in some way, it kind of fails". That's kind of why the strongest form of balance Yugioh can get is "you can only use these effects wtih monsters of THIS archetype" and to most players, it has to be worth the restriction or no one will play the deck unless they REALLY like the card art. Sadly.... it's because some of the most useful cards for these archetypes don't have that text, that more powerful archetypes who happen to meet the criteria end up getting the original card banned simply cause people can use the card with a different archetype. But that's more a failure in design on Konami's part, introducing artificial powercreep. It's also why some archetypes simply aren't in Duel links at all because that game has a deliberately lower power level so people can play with thier favorite archetype and have a chance at winning. Maybe not consistent, but a chance.
@@MarioMastar I can see overly splashable bosses being an issue, but that does not really cover looking at Melodious exclusively using Melodious, despite it supporting LIGHT Fairy. Also, that is technically reverse powercreep, like when Relinquished became ,more playable or Quasar becomes easier to summon. I think I get what you were going for, trying to balance greater power with less splashability, but then you criticized splashability making a card too powerful.
The dude just explained how melodious got new support, good cards and still considers it a failed archetype. Then again for him all archetypes that aren't meta are failed ones. Next time try to talk about actual bad, inconsistent, non-functioning decks. Like Battlin' Boxers before they got their new support for example.
I used Melodious in Legends Anthology in Master Duel and achieved a good result just by making Aria Elegy lock; 75% of the time I don't event know why, the other 25% is because ops didn't feel like reading 6 lines of card text
Hi DuelLogs! Mind revisiting the Explaining the Banlist series? The most recent impending banlist is banning Baronne and Borreload Savage, as well as _unbanning_ Thunder Dragon Colossus and putting Purrely Delicious Memory back to 2, a lot of which some players like me don't exactly know why
Look at the "Failed Cards" playlist of this TH-camr: They don't know what they are talking about because half of them aren't bad at all. This series basically covers every archetype which isn't Tier 0 and calls it 'failed'.
It's amazing how a lot of cards that are seen as awful and unplayable in the TCG because of "pedal bike vs jet" analogies are solid in Duel links implying Duel links is actually yugioh but balanced and fun. There definitely are some powerful decks and plays in Duel links, but nothing ever seems "unbeatable" simply cause you're not also playing a T0 deck and that being treated as a "good thing" (I seriously get angry every time I hear "The problem is it's a trap card, and traps are too slow to ever be worth playing". It's like when stealth rock in pokemon had players making fun of everyone using Fire/flying/bug/ice types because "stealth rock auto cuts thier HP for free" and THAT was the version of pokemon people seemed to like. cutting out 4 types entirely, but I digress. I've ranted enough about that in other videos). At this point though I honestly see Duel LInks as an entirely different game. It kind of is either way due to skills and the way speed duel works, but I really like how many T0 strategies that are broken in the TCG are unlimited in Duel Links simply cause the most problematic archetypes aren't in the game at all or the smaller field size and pacing means you can't pull off the same FTKs you can in the TCG. Sure most duels I have still go to like turn 2 or 3, but usually because I can tell when I bricked and my opponent opened with a good hand, but I've had plenty of great duels that lasted even 10 turns because the back and forth game was just so intense, it came down to the last card. Even had one game deck out once because we just kept out playing each other. THOSE are what Yugioh's all about to me. Not deciding games on the deck you play.
@@fabianbeteta5795 I know they're not meta or that amazing but neither are some of the other "failed archetype" videos he's made. It's not an insult if it's truth. My favorite cards aren't meta and I'm fine with that
@arrozzblanco I apologize. I am a six samurai player as well, and I don't want duellog to make the failure archetype video of my favorite archetype because he would make it a bad archetype.
Yes. Fortissimo (Continuous Spell): Once per turn: Target 1 "Melodious", it gains 800 ATK until your next Standby (even if this card leaves the field) You can send this card to the GY; Fusion Summon 1 "Melodious" monster from your Extra Deck using monsters you control. No idea why it wasn't mentioned.
@@MysticKenji2It’s easy to overlook for two reasons: a) as a Fusion Spell, both Ostinato and regular Polymerisation outclass it in terms of flexibility b) if you have a live Aria you cannot target your own monsters for the ATK boost.
I feel like part of the issue with Melodius is how half the archetype felt like it was meant to be a precursor for a pendulum deck rather than a fusion deck, but it never got the pendulums it needed until recently (and the game has changed so much that they have to be really good now). It has so many cards that have effects when special summon and impacts all special summoned cards but the archetype itself lacked ways to special summon often like Elegy. Like, Tamtam can search a poly when special summoned while you control a melodius monster... but she can't special summon herself and one of the deck's best way to special summon requires having no monsters on the field. Something about Arc-V and them not giving pendulum supports to Yuya's friends from the pendulum dimension that makes it stand out as their deck seems to be tailored for pendulum (don't get me started on super heavy samurais).
I made a silly little deck around these cards the other day and was pleasantly surprised that shubertas effect can be triggered again if it was flipped into face down Defence position and then flipped back up, gives it a really mean effectiveness against something like a ghostrick deck or something
Also I disagree about Opera being a weak card, when using Ostinato and choosing Opera as one of the materials, you just get to keep that Fusion monster and don’t need to split it back into its parts at the end of the turn
Can you please do a video on the Dragon Maid archtype, It is my favorite Arch type despite not being very good and I found it's focus on bounce to be so fun.
Sometimes you can get something useful about learning about the weaknesses of your favorite deck, but the ONLY probelm with some of Duellog's videos is half of them do give good insight on why an archetype fails on it's own (it's too self reliant, it doesn't have a good end board, it has no protection or negates to control opponents plays, it has no real cohesive strategy), and some of them are just "It's bad because it can't beat links or tears...." which I think is horribly unfair as it assumes the opponent will ALWAYS draw some form of trap removal or draw a perfect hand EVERY game. I play Duel links and still draw dud hands even with half of them being starters. I've bricked a few times, and sometimes ONLY won cause my opponent bricked too. Can't just write off a card because "Tears does it better". It may not be "searchable" but MAYBE that's the POINT. if you draw it, it's a game changing card. If you don't, better hope you draw it next turn. and if there isn't a next turn, maybe next game, and if there NEVER is a next turn, then the problem is the GAME, not the deck.
Have you done a video for the Machina archetype? Idk if they would be considered a "failure" or not since about 7 cards (5 monsters, 1 spell, 1 trap) can be used in an Earth Machine deck. But the rest of the cards never see use.
To ask what if pot of greed had its effect changed to the following "This card can only be played by revealling it immediately after drawing it in the draw phase. Draw 2 cards. You may not use this card to pay the cost of another card." Do you think this would be enough to unban it?
If you'd be up for a more lore heavy video like you did for Albaz and Visas Starfrost, I'd love to see the Condemned Witch/Darklord story covered. Eldlich would be another interesting archetype.
Can I see a video of your breakdown of Ancient Gears? I love (and dont) to hear your breakdown on how it was used in the anime, arc v, irl. Also include the anime cards they never released. Even though they are a mediocre archtype, it is the only deck that I play without quitting the game. I love their idea of a mythical technology that was made by the Romans and Greeks. I love to see your view on what weapons they can incorporate to their style. And what they need to make them more consistent as a going second deck. Or what they need to make them a going first deck.
Wowsers, in a restricted format with different banlists to the tcg, a rouge deck was able to be relevant for a month. By that logic, snake eye must be horrendous since its not even in duel links.
My disappointment in the fact that not only was fortissimo not mentioned but that it wasn't mentioned how aria prevents you from targeting YOUR OWN MONSTERS effectively meaning that if aria wasn't the last thing on your board you were locked out of your targeting effects.
It's kinda weird that archetype used by an ARC-V character i.e. in Pendulum era, which relied heavily on Special Summoning, had its' pendulum scales released way after the first cards
I think the deck will perform well as a pure build. It has a ton of room for non-engine and has several one-card starters, and can play with Herald of Orange Light.
Testing with the new OCG cards I have had about a 70% win rate with non support like ash, inperm and strike. This deck has truly become my top 5 favorite rouges to play
It's weird how in Arc 5 there were dimensions for each summon type yet this is another fusion archetype when it probably would have been better being a pendulum archetype instead of having monsters with meh effects that sometimes care about sp. summoning and meh ways of sp. summoning them. They already got 5 new cards.
Incoming? It came out in the ocg months ago. The deck has seen recent play
Mentioned in the video
@@Xenonfuji That's dope
In case any of y'all don't get the joke - whatever archetype gets a Failed Archetypea video usually gets new support announced in a very short while
As one of the few casual Melodious players, its nice to know of the newer Pendulums
At least Melodious was one of the few decks during master rule 4, that could actually break the U-Link, even after getting Gumblared twice.
...as unbelievable as this sounds.
As someone that likes LIGHT/fairy decks, I feel attacked.
As someone with the same liking, I feel forgotten (I'm desperately waiting for some new star seraph cards)

I've trieda couple of times, I jus could not get Vylons to work, so I totally agree on that, but... I hate facing Timelords! Too often they catch me off guard, which is not good, very not good!

Yuzu deserves better
She should have gotten the Yuya treatment, where she got Xyz and Synchros as well, instead of just Fusion. I'm glad her cards finally got Pendulums, so maybe Konami is realizing their mistake, and will give the archetype a Tuner, Synchros and Xyz cards.
@@TheToginator Melodious never getting a tuner and synchro despite being a musically themed deck has always been super wack to me.
As not Only the "You can Only use 1 of this category (1, 2, or 3)" is a harsher restriction,
And then some Skills add more restrictions, but a bigger payoffs

@@chrisb.2028 we don't talk about the manga 💀(Curse you, Shin Yoshida!)
It really kinda is; the deck wanted to turtle up since it started.
The Link gave it the chance to play for damage by using Soprano Mozarta to make Prima.
I like the visuals and Mels have always been pretty easy to use.
This one doesn’t really hold well cause they’re seeing competitive success recently with the new support
That‘s mentioned at the end of the video.
The 5 new cards for this deck are ridiculous. You can hard lock your opponent from playing the game relatively easily.
Here’s an idea for a Field Spell for the archetype, and as many other musical/entertainment themed ones as I could find on short notice (although I’m sure I missed many MANY more)
_Amphitheatre Almighty_
Field Spell
_(This card is always an “Melodious”, “Orcust”, “Trickstar”, “Symphonic”, “Lunalight”, “Performapal”, “Performage”, “Abyss Actor”, “Despia”, “Djinn”, and “Lyrilusc” card)_
_You can conduct 1 additional normal summon/set, and 1 additional Pendulum Summon, per turn. You can apply each of the following effects of “Amphitheatre Almighty” once per turn:_
_⚪️If you summon a monster that mentions any of the above mentioned names in its names or text, you can add 1 spell/trap to your hand (from your deck or GY) that does so as well._
_⚪️If you Activate a Spell/Trap that mentions any of the above mentioned names in its names or text, you can add 1 Monster to your hand (from your deck or GY) that does so as well._
Bro, don't go hitting me with this one week before the support comes.
😂
When the Melodious family alongside with the Polymerization+Fusion combo families gets the extra bonus new cards in the forms of the new Members+Supports as well as the retrains and then the certain moments of the Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V Anime references again, even if it also truly means over and over again.
In return, the Melodious as a whole Deck in the realm of the Yu-Gi-Oh competitive META ways will be an even more deadly competitive META rogue Deck and beyond.
13:37 Honestly, how often has "Mediocre" been more appropriate than "Failed?"
Anyway, if these are criticized as an archetype only deck, any chance of "archetypes that do not exclude all other cards" as a mechanic? I mean, they clearly said you could splash any LIGHT Fairy, so...?
Well based on the other "Failed archetypes" there's 2 ways a deck is considered "Failed":
1. The deck can't stand on it's own because it just doesn't compare to other decks released at the time in spite of power creep (what's the deck's win condition? If there is none but having bigger bodies, then it loses to blue eyes by default)
2. The deck's own mechanics contradict or rely on the opponent to play ball to pull off. (Ally of Justice. if your opponent isn't playing Light monsters, you're basically playing with a bunch of vanillas. Or Vehicroids which are versatile, but because "Vehicroid" is a fan term more than the archetype, most of the effects don't work with the same cards in the archetype and ironically are used with cards that are completely irrelevant to the gameplan (Dark Jeroid?)
You can still play them and probably get some wins with them against lower level opponents, but the general baseline is "If the archetype can't beat the vanilla Blue eyes in some way, it kind of fails".
@@MarioMastar
I can see overly splashable bosses being an issue, but that does not really cover looking at Melodious exclusively using Melodious, despite it supporting LIGHT Fairy.
Also, that is technically reverse powercreep, like when Relinquished became ,more playable or Quasar becomes easier to summon. I think I get what you were going for, trying to balance greater power with less splashability, but then you criticized splashability making a card too powerful.
Ig they wanted to also be mindful of Archlord Krysta
@@windmirror7083
Too bad this only cared about them in a weird "archetype only" context.
I may try this in Master Duel
Bloom diva is one of my favorite Waking the dragon targets
Perfect to counter accescode talker and other stuff
I loved the potential that melodious had its sad to know that they weren't very consistent making them fade into obscurity
And then the new support showed up
Much like Yuzus relevancy
Remember that the deck is now meta. Bad timing to make that video most likely
im here wondering when the legacy of destruction pack gets added to master duel xD
Funny with the new support released in OCG and soon in TCG 😂😂
The dude just explained how melodious got new support, good cards and still considers it a failed archetype. Then again for him all archetypes that aren't meta are failed ones. Next time try to talk about actual bad, inconsistent, non-functioning decks. Like Battlin' Boxers before they got their new support for example.
The deck is still bad and does nothing.
@@soukenmarufwt5224 'does nothing' when it had a few tops in January in the OCG. If it did nothing it wouldn't be getting any tops at all my guy.
Couldn't the same argument for Battlin' be made for Melodious...bad until their recent wave of support?
@@soukenmarufwt5224nice b8
I remember fondly that one time i let this deck cook the whole combo, normal summoned pettlephin and watched as my opponent folded like a tissue
How does that work? You can't target them...
I used Melodious in Legends Anthology in Master Duel and achieved a good result just by making Aria Elegy lock; 75% of the time I don't event know why, the other 25% is because ops didn't feel like reading 6 lines of card text
A little late, now they're about to be rogue playable lmfao
OCG peeps seem to love mixing the pends with Supreme King.
*posted 2 weeks before Melodious gets the competitive support they've deserved for a decade*
The new support really helps this deck with the end board
Hi DuelLogs! Mind revisiting the Explaining the Banlist series?
The most recent impending banlist is banning Baronne and Borreload Savage, as well as _unbanning_ Thunder Dragon Colossus and putting Purrely Delicious Memory back to 2, a lot of which some players like me don't exactly know why
That would be an interesting video 📹 🤔
His pronunciations always hurt me. Lol
Tier 1-2 deck in the OCG is a failed archtype?
This is a primarily TCG channel and he even says in the intro "could this change in the future?"
Look at the "Failed Cards" playlist of this TH-camr: They don't know what they are talking about because half of them aren't bad at all. This series basically covers every archetype which isn't Tier 0 and calls it 'failed'.
This implies Duel Logs knows anything about the OCG beyond Maxx C being legal
Not even tier 1 in OCG with 4 other decks in tier 1. Tier 2 maybe, but unlikely
Not the TCG
I'm waiting for the line, But in duel link...
yeah granted i woudnt be surprised(cant wait for failed archtypes evil twins) solely cuz duel links got the alt arts of the twins
Have you done a failed archetype for six sams or Gravekeepers ?
They're my favorites yet they don't get any love
Don't give him any ideas 😡😡😡
@@fabianbeteta5795 and why not ? What's your issue with my favorites ? Or do you just not want him to make any more videos ?
@arrozzblanco you didn't want the six samurai archetype to be insulted if he made a failure archetype of six samurai?
@@fabianbeteta5795 I know they're not meta or that amazing but neither are some of the other "failed archetype" videos he's made. It's not an insult if it's truth. My favorite cards aren't meta and I'm fine with that
@arrozzblanco I apologize. I am a six samurai player as well, and I don't want duellog to make the failure archetype video of my favorite archetype because he would make it a bad archetype.
Haven’t watched it yet but I’m assuming this isn’t regarding the upcoming support since it gave this deck tops in the OCG.
It wasn't the worst in duel links. But the skill hard carried
Yeah, it was T1 - T2 at ARC-V release.
So it’s just like all the modern decks in duel links 😂
I didn’t even use that skill to have success with the deck. I used the Polymerization skill.
Wasn’t there a Spell card that let you fusion summon and give a 500 ATK boost?
Yes.
Fortissimo (Continuous Spell):
Once per turn: Target 1 "Melodious", it gains 800 ATK until your next Standby (even if this card leaves the field)
You can send this card to the GY; Fusion Summon 1 "Melodious" monster from your Extra Deck using monsters you control.
No idea why it wasn't mentioned.
@@MysticKenji2It’s easy to overlook for two reasons:
a) as a Fusion Spell, both Ostinato and regular Polymerisation outclass it in terms of flexibility
b) if you have a live Aria you cannot target your own monsters for the ATK boost.
Ahh this video aged like a fine wine
As a Melodious player, this makes me really happy to see. :3
I remember transmodify being pretty good in this deck
Have you ever made a video on Battlin‘ boxers? I love that archetype and would love a video about it.
It was a theme mainly about protection and swarming. A testament to say that these alone wont get you far
Have you done a video for the Machina archetype? Idk if they would be considered a "failure" or not since about 7 cards (5 monsters, 1 spell, 1 trap) can be used in an Earth Machine deck. But the rest of the cards never see use.
I feel like this archetype is the perfect representation of the character who plays it in Arc V.
You know a deck is bad when you’ve played since you were little and still never heard of it
To ask what if pot of greed had its effect changed to the following
"This card can only be played by revealling it immediately after drawing it in the draw phase. Draw 2 cards. You may not use this card to pay the cost of another card."
Do you think this would be enough to unban it?
Can you do the gandora focus deck with the new support? I really like gandora monster
If you'd be up for a more lore heavy video like you did for Albaz and Visas Starfrost, I'd love to see the Condemned Witch/Darklord story covered. Eldlich would be another interesting archetype.
0:00 More than DM?
Pianissimo is lore related to the archetype
Hi sir! Can you please do also a review on Vylon deck? I mean they are also failed cards... I guess?
Bloom Diva is so fun in Duel Links though. People never read her effect and keep smashing their big guys into her hoping for different results.
You finally came for my main deck 😢
You should do Ice Barrier or Ally of Justice at some point
It may come. 🤔
Can you cover nephthys pls or myutant
ostinto and that link monster is proof that mediocre archetypes receive the best support
Melodious is petty good as a guy who used it to beat fire king snake eyes
Still no Mermail video 😢
This "failed" archetype was a cancer at one point in duel links.
Wowsers, in a restricted format with different banlists to the tcg, a rouge deck was able to be relevant for a month. By that logic, snake eye must be horrendous since its not even in duel links.
KEEP IT GOING MAN, your 2 for 2 with my favorite archtypes. Hell go for madolche next lol
No! Not the Madolches!
Bloom Diva was a house in Duel Links
This guy totally should be the Principal when Konami decide to Open Duel School
I'd love to see you go over HERO's and Blackwings, though not really for the failed archetypes series.
My disappointment in the fact that not only was fortissimo not mentioned but that it wasn't mentioned how aria prevents you from targeting YOUR OWN MONSTERS effectively meaning that if aria wasn't the last thing on your board you were locked out of your targeting effects.
This is an irony video since this archetype is doing well.
Can you cover the scrap archetype?
Back when I was playing Duel Links, I loved dueling with my Melodious and Aroma decks. They're probably my two favorite archetypes.
Heyy same with me, melodious help me with KoG and aroma is just a fun deck that bring the old fun of ygo
So what is the price of 1st Movement now? I retired years ago but kept my three copies with me. Is it a good time to sell them?
As the number 1 Melodious glazer i know Mkhol40 is punching air watching this video
It's kinda weird that archetype used by an ARC-V character i.e. in Pendulum era, which relied heavily on Special Summoning, had its' pendulum scales released way after the first cards
It would really be nice to hear your response when you make a failed archetypes video and some support comes out for them.
Talk about fortune lady too, god knows why Konami never give support to them 😢

And maybe one on the seal of orichalcos arc cards too please
It's weird how in Arc 5 there were dimensions for each summon type yet this is another fusion archetype when it probably would have been better being a pendulum archetype instead of having monsters with meh effects that sometimes care about sp. summoning and meh ways of sp. summoning them. AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW--
