Izumi had lost her child, then fate throws 2 orphaned child in her path, begging to come with her...
Izumi: _How am I supposed to say no to that?_

FMA has two things: unimaginable sorrow and cliffhangers. The author has mastered writing those both very well.

Don't forget an incredibly well thought out and complex story that ends perfectly.

Another one that hits in the feels.
Incase you haven't noticed I'd like to point something out, two episodes ago we had death with the episode of Hughes, then last episodes we had an episode of life with the birth of a new life, and now we have an episode showing the natural circulation of life and death and the effects of messing with said circulation, all represented of course with the circular structural matrix itself.
The way FMA:B builds up these themes and messages in a way that you subconsciously internalize is amazing. It's stuff like this that makes it the greatest anime ever imo.
Also, you said "doesn't the kids mother have anything to say about this". But the training takes place after the boys mother dies, that's why that one mam during the flood told Izumi that the boys don't have parents.

    Cut content from the manga:
My man, Mason, they just removed the character almost entirely. He works at the Butcher shop with Izumi and Sig.
He was on the island with Ed and Al pretending to be some murderous lunatic in order to make sure they wouldn't quit when things got scary and he was also there to make sure they didn't starve to death.
He also knows about the miscarriage because when Edward asked why Izumi and Sig dont have kids he immediately changed the subject
Additionally, it's Pinako that tells Izumi that Ed and Al don't have parents, and we get a little more about why she accepted them as students.
She says to Sig, "If our child lived, he would have been about their age by now." Or something like that probably not those exact words

@@Hollyreacts He is in the 2003 version. There's a lot of things that were in that series and the manga that they cut because they felt it would be redundant. It's worth checking out the '03 version for those bits if nothing else. It gives the Tucker/Nina story a two parter to really twist the knife in, shows you the full origin of Yoki, a character who becomes prevalent later, and his relation to the Elrics, flushes out episodes like this and even covers smaller details like how Hawkeye gets her adorable puppers Black Hayate.

A bit of context: Their mother died before they met teacher and they had already read up on human transmutation by then. They specifically looked for a teacher in order to learn enough to do human transmutation because they had been entirely self taught up until that point. When they met Izumi, the rest of the people had known their mother had died, which was why she felt pity for them and took them on.
Part of them apologizing is also them apologizing for not telling her they intended to use her teachings to do the transmutation the entire time because they knew she’d refuse if she knew when she met them.

There are 3 basic principles in alchemy:
    1. One is all, all is one.
    2. Cycle of life (Alchemy is life itself, hence circle is essential to activate)
    3. Equivalent exchange.
Which are also true in real life.

I feel you on how you feel about Izumis story. Its kind of like when a character who never wanted kids in one of my favorite sitcoms found out that she was medically incapable of having kids. She knew she didn't want them, but its different when you find you couldnt even if you wanted to. It was emotionally devastating to her, and she didn't even fully understand why. The loss of choice, perhaps? Anyway. Yeah. Super sad. But Izumi is AWESOME

Something here reminded me of the episode in FMA 2003 where very young Ed and Al rush to Trisha hanging clothes on the line to show her their latest creations, little toy animals. They hold them up for approval. Al's is a little crude, and he says "I can only make this one" in a shy little voice and I just want to cry for him and tell him to be proud. Such a classic Al moment.

Fun Fact!: Alchemy was a real thing! (obviously not to this extent) This was more of an effort to turn lead into gold, as the alchemical makeup of lead was so close to gold, that people in the past were convinced they could make modifications to it to make it happen.
