While I've seen her mostly used in fully 5 stars team, Shenhe works quite well with Chongyun if he's built bc he can infuse every melee with cryo and so they all get buffed by auntie
I usually use them both, and it does work well, you're correct!

chongyun is literally one of the best picks in shenhe teams, bc they both benefit each other regardless of which of them you're using as a main dps.
if you use shenhe as a dps, you can use chongyun to infuse her normal attacks with cryo and increase her damage more

Thank you for this guide, as I am someone who pulled Shenhe on a whim due to design and story alone, I was still a bit confused on how to utilize her properly. Thankfully I do have Ganyu and Ayaka so I will be trying her out with both and seeing how much I like the performance

Same! I pulled her mostly because I like her as a character and after knowing her backstory. I'm not a cryo user though, the only cryo character I have, built decently, is Rosaria. No Ganyu, no Ayaka and my Kaeya is not even properly built hahahaha
don't mind but her kit isn't that great....i was very hyped for her too but.... now I think getting xiao constellation would be better cuz her buff is very limited even sucrose is better than her LMAO
BTW I've c1 Ayaka with jade cutter so I know how useless she is with ayaka Q
Note: she can be more useful if new cryo unit comes who's burst is like 1/2 hit not like Ayaka 20 hit

Anyway ,I think playing her as mono cryo team is good though. Freeze comp is the best for her , but I think you need a good hydro applier and can heal at the same time so kokomi is the answer but for somone like me who doesn't pull for her (kokomi) I think playing shenhe as mono cryo team is better for me.
As more and more characters get released, I feel Mihoyo will continue to push mono teams with more supports that buff a single element. If we’re going to go down that road, it would be nice if they added some depth to elemental resonance to where it gave you a new buff with four characters of the same element. That, or just double the resonance we already get if you want to be lazy about it.
But first buff electro and hydro resonance because they’re not very good.
In any case, thank you for making this guide. I got Shenhe and enjoy playing her so far. She definitely requires a bit of timing and mechanical skill to max her support potential, which makes it more fun. 🙂
I think theyre not gonna buff the element. Better to make money on release character that buff the element like kujou sara. And i think electro is in a good right now
if they are pivoting towards mono elemental team, i believe a new artifact set would be great since theres not much options for mono elemental teams (unlike CW and frozen set)

@@blank3764 It would be good if they added individual piece effects on artifacts (like a mini set effect) like in Honkai, it makes teams more interesting and adds a bit more diversity to the available builds. Obviously there are still 'best' setups but there are other options available if you're missing gear or characters etc.
Electro resonance is not as bad as you think; its an extra few particles that can bring ER requirements down by around 20-30%
Imo, she is a high maintenance unit. To elaborate, she is a 5 star primarily for 5 stars. She seems to work best with Ganyu and Ayaka which are both high dps Cryo units that already do tons of damage on their own. And while Mona or Diona have been staples for freeze teams, I think Shenhe and Kokomi fit in nicely as a great alternative. See, the thing is, she is just another option. She is not necessary for the meta or power creeped support to where she blows everything else away, she just exists as another fun way to build Cryo teams. I personally think she is quite fun to play when compared to other units, a Ayaka/Ganyu, Kokomi, Kaz, Shenhe team is way more my speed in terms of flow and synergy. Shenhe is the epitome of "nice to have" but is by no means a must pull and thats perfectly fine. I think the community needs to realize this is a GOOD thing. We don't want every character to be super overpowered or make other units obsolete because then we enter power creep territory. She has a place, a niche place sure, but she is fun, well designed, and certainly viable for those that pull for her.
What she does with her E is essentially adds a flat (semi) amount of damage on top of other character's damage. Yes, the better stats this character have the better the amount but it's not like it depends on character's MV. % wise she would do a lot more for Rosaria/Kaeya/Chongus just because their damage is much much smaller than Yangu or Ayaya. She is more of a subDPS than a support.
I think that shenhe was created for when dendro releases. I saw a leak which shows that vape, melt, and freeze would get indirectly nerfed due to the reactions that dendro would cause, thus pushing mono element teams in the future. Take with a huge grain of salt 🧂 since leaks can change

Also ya don't have to waste hundreds of dollars on getting any character that comes up in the next banner. They are gonna come back anyway and now with the common 2 banners at a time thing mihoyo has going on rotating through all the characters and putting the characters you miss back will be more common
Kazuha is my favorite and I did not get him and it feels like a month and he is already gonna be back soon

In a short way, she's actually sub dps dealing flat dmg, but the output multiplier depends on the onfield character.

@@rebchizelbeak5392 it's not a problem, Ayaka's burst uses up all the stacks too and much faster. In fact, it actually doesn't matter what you spend the stacks with, as long as your crits and elemental damage bonus stay the same.
@@Soundwave1900 The stack damage is also affected by burst damage%, elemental skill damage%, normal attack% and charge atk% etc, so the attack type actually does matter to an extent.
A Ganyu with r1 Amos bow has much higher total damage modifiers on her charge shot over her burst/skill, so there does end up being around a 26% (52% for r5) effective increase to total stack damage when using charge shots over burst hits, which is not insignificant at all.

I feel like you need to mention that it's a flat dmg addition, Shenhe's dmg addition to Ayaka's normal/charged/skill/burst will be the exact same as long as Ayaka doesn't have any normal/charged/skill/burst dmg bonuses, but there are quite a few people who think Shenhe's E will buff higher scaling attacks more despite it being completely independent of skill multipiers

Really hoped that the trigger quota is independent on Normal/Charged/Plunge, Skill and Burst. Could've been like this. That way you could play much easier. Hopefully MHY buffs her to increase the Trigger Quota or just do this, and not make her kinda constellation locked.

It doesn’t matter what you proc it on, the Quills do the same damage no matter what ability procs it. Shenhe’s Icy Quill is less of a buff like Bennet and more like an attack akin to Albedo. It uses Shenhe’s attack stat and talent level to deal damage, modified by the unit spending the quill’s Crit and Cryo damage stats. She adds this attack to the same number of the unit who uses this quill instead of a separate number like Albedo, but it is effectively Shenhe’s own attack rather than a buff.
Shenhe is a Sub DPS, not a buffer (for her E at least)

While an inferior option, Anemo Traveler takes advantage of Shenhe's Icy Quils easier than Sucrose does (due to Sucrose built on EM and MC probably built on crit damage build + Traveler's elemental absorption from his E skill)
yeah anemo traveler's hold E is usually inconsistent and leaves him vulnerable against heavily mobile enemies such as the ruin enemies and rifthounds that have recently been in the abyss BUT in a freeze comp that is not a concern since you permafreeze the enemies

the thing is, Swirl cannot crit, so crit kinda useless for anemo support. Em will give more dmg

I was pulling for her and did not expect to win 3 straight 50/50's in a row, so the ending is that I got her and as much as I don't really feel like she is useful in my team, I still have fun using her when I am in Co op.
She's fun in co op? How does that work if you are the only Cryo user? I feel that she can be good to use in co op if someone plays a chongyun

@@Chad-bc9vi Well, some people seem to think that theit past luck somehow influences their future luck. For example, in this case OP thinks that winning 50/50 the past two times means that he/she is somehow more likely to lose the 3rd one. In reality, the 50/50 chance stays the same regardless of your past wins/losses. You are just as likely to win your 100th 50/50 even if you've won 99 50/50s in a row, as an extreme example.
Mihoyo should give a new elemental synergy system where 4 characters with the same element can get in a party.
I totally get why they don't implemented it early in the game, but now we got many characters on each elements, and it's totally viable to use all 4 same elements on a team

Thanks for getting this out so quick! I've been grinding out the vishaps for her but wasn't sure what artifacts and stats to use. I'm happy to say I have Ayaka and I will pull for Kazuha when he comes back, and it's nice to see they'll work so well together! Also, I appreciate the mention of a "realistic" showcase at the end. Guess Shenhe isn't the most demanding character after all!

I use cryo teams a lot in abyss (specifically Ayaka or Ganyu teams) so Shenhe was an easy pull for me :)
Through my testing, you get more att using the skyward spine, rather then engulfing. Skyward was definitely giving me better results with good ER, more att and bonus crit rate AND huge dmg passive that scales on att.
its a great weapon for her c: I tested it on her a bit and the atk speed is also really fun

Been goofing off with a cryo keqing team with shenhe and I have to say this seems like a pretty viable team. Maybe not high end meta but it definitely makes the build really good.
@frost lan I was using 2 piece blizzard strayer with 2 piece gladiator. If you're using Kokomi and freezing 4 piece blizzard strayer should be viable. Honestly though the biggest hang up on this though is for it to be really good you probably need the Mistsplitter. Tried it with Black sword instead and it was underwhelming. Might be better on a freeze team with kokomi. I was using Keqing/Chongyun/Shenhe/Jean so no freeze.
mono cryo is also great for those non-freezable enemies such as the triple kenki floor

That Ayaka burst can be buffed twice is a great tip and I will try to time better the rotations to maximize her potential!

Thanks alot for this man, I wanted to pull for her but wasn't sure so I just went for YuJin, but got Shenhe on the first 10 pull. Wasn't sure how to build or use her but this really clears things up. Good to know she synergizes so we'll with Ayaka, I spent alot of time building her, she deserves good supports. Awesome as always
Hi Zyox, I am so thankful for this rotation and tips. My abyss runs improve so much better and esier to attain 36 stars with this kind of team. I am using the same team ayaka, shenhe, kokomi and kazuha. I can see a big jump of numbers in my hyper carry. Thank you so much.

I’ve been building Shenhe physical damage as a solo carry dps. She buffs herself pretty well

I may swap out Blizzard Strayer for Pale Flame or Chiv in the future, but I need to farm them. Using the Dragonspine spear on her.
Probably going to build Rosaria as a crit buffer with her and use yunjin as a NA support soon

Im running kaeya, shenhe, kokomi and kazuha, great team, its nice seeing my kaeya doing crazy dmg, hopefully i can get his c6 this year, im at c4.

Great guide! Shenhe is definitely on the more technical side as far as characters go, I'd even go as far as calling her the most technically challenging character in the game so far.
I found that a 2 piece shogun/2 piece gladiator/kitsune artifact set works well with her, giving her some much needed energy sustain while increasing her attack stat to maximize her damage. I still haven't tested the viability of either a CRYO or ATK cup yet, but I will once I get the chance to.
She works exceptionally well in perma-freeze teams; my go to pair character with her is definitely Mona. Kokomi is a great pairing as well, but you trade raw burst for more team sustain.
All in all, I'm very happy I got her and while I'm still working on maxing her out, she's definitely a valuable asset.

This video reminds me of how important it is to wait for guides before you wish for a character. I was oririnally going to wish for Shenhe because I love her design and story, but after watching this I see that she is not for me and won't fit my teams at all. Great guide as always Zy0x
I always use kokomi (Thrilling Tales) E, then her burst, hold E and after that swap to my main DPS

For a Eula Shenhe team, I have found that if you finish your Eula burst early by swapping to Shenhe and using Shenhe's skill, Shenhe can get her buff off before Eula's sword drops which makes timing Shenhe's buff considerably easier.
EDIT: I am unsure if this is optimal but it is a neat interaction I noticed. A standard Eula Burst is (4 normal attacks, hold E, 4 normal attacks) if you were to use this interaction you would need to do 4 normal attacks, hold E, 3 normal attacks, swap to Shenhe, press E. This rotation results in one less attack from Eula. The question is how much of a damage buff is one stack vs. Shenhe's E
If u swap EULA whilst her burst hasn't exploded. It will immediately explode.
So.. wasting Euka's burst?
@@warden5553 I have eula too and this is enough time for you to swap to another hero and use their elemental skill before her ultimate drops, though in this case I'm not sure why though, usually it's for me to get extra particle for bennett or someone else

@@chikenmcnugger3877 got both of them. go for kazuha unless you can pull for c6 shenhe. For abyss an anemo crowd control makes it much more easier
@@chikenmcnugger3877 currently shenhe isnt really worth it, but as time goes her value starts to increase more and more as more cryo characters release
@@chikenmcnugger3877 Kazuha Is more of a universal elemental buffer, whereas Shenhe is specific cryo buff. Kazuha also is easier to build with two friendly weapon.

Glad to see I understood her kit correctly :) I was really excited to get her since Ayaka is one of my favourite characters. I was using Ganyu's burst to buff Ayaka before, so Shenhe is a big upgrade to my freeze team. I was pretty lucky to get her on my 5th pull in this banner (soft pity range, not 5 pity lmao), but I wasn't sure yet which character to grab. Hoping now that I can still get Xiao before the banner ends :) The Calamity Queller seemed underwhelming when it was announced, but looking into it after I played with her a little I noticed how great it actually is for any character who wants high ATK and especially for off-field supports! I would prefer Xiao though, so I'm going to keep her on my Skyward Spine. Glad that weapon is finally getting use after I lost Freedom Sworn for it 😅 I actually has all the pieces sitting around for a fully-leveled 2-pc GF/2-pc Reminiscence build, but only if I went for a standard ATK%/Cryo Bonus/CRIT Rate build. She's already really great though! She does a lot of damage on her own, but more importantly she's already at >2,100 ATK despite being only level 59. Even at level 17 before I had even leveled her weapon I was already using her because she makes such a great support for Ayaka.

I really want to run the waifu team of Ayaka+Ganyu+Shenhe+Jean, I feel like it's difficult getting things to stay in Ayaka's burst compared to a freeze team

For Eula, you can pretty much always get the damage buff on her burst if Shenhe’s E is up. Right before it explodes swap to Shenhe and tap E and the buff applies. I’ve tested it multiple times.
Thats very smart. I tried using hold E, than using eula E two times to get that charged sword, then shenhe press E, then eula again hold E
Im wondering how she'd work on a permafreeze kaeya team myself. Im still pretty new to team building and honestly all the numbers confuse me, but I run kaeya/chongyun/xingqiu/bennet as my main team, and am wondering if she'd be a good swap for bennet to free him up for another team if/when i tackle the abyss

Have you and Zajef looked into how Shenhe performs in a freeze comp with Ayaka or Ganyu vs. just using Ayaka and Ganyu together?
He said in the video that the ayaka freeze and mono cryo team works good with shenhe, dunno about ganyu freeze tho
This. I currently use Ayaka, Ganyu, Kokomi and a Flex (Zhongli, Anemo, etc). I'm not convinced about pulling her since removing Ayaka or Ganyu seems like I will be actually losing damage. Could remove the Flex tho, but that would remove the res shred. I would like to see this tests.

@@PenguinsAreColdish did the calcs on my own, Shenhe replacing Ganyu or Ayaka when both are used together is a DPS loss even in single target. However, Shenhe can replace Mona or Kokomi to turn a freeze team into a mono cryo team and it will function well.
@@TheLugia3 even in single target??? with shenhe being able to buff 10 ticks of ayaka ult? damn... does it make a difference if they're both like hyper invested? i heard shenhe works better the higher investment ur characters are

i rly love her playstyle and utilities to the point i leveld her up to 90, and then the seven blessed me with a C1 in just 6 pulls 🙈
Playing with the same team comp like in this video (except i don't have kokomy) and it's an enjoyment to see the big numbers.
People should point out that since she's giving her Icy Quills to the whole team, she actually has 20/28 procs on it instead of 5/7.
But to be fair your main DPS is the only one critting with the procs so...

And in that kazuha team, you're only using 15/21 stacks because kokomi can't do cryo damage.

Have anybody tested out a team of ayaka, ganyu, shenhe, kokomi?
Running 2 cryo dps with blizzard strayer of over 230% critdamage and 100% damage bonus along with a 3k atk shenhe. Should be more damage per e cast right?
Uh, no? People who use Rosaria to battery Ayaka would usually also buff up her stats, since she also hits pretty hard.

@@glovs4188 you'd be giving up on an anemo character's buffs/debuffs, grouping ability and personal damage for that. It certainly works, but whether or not it's better than what we already had is another matter, which I'll leave for theorycrafters to settle. Not that it matters to me, because we already know she's strong enough
@@eru_barth the vv shred is substantial but 15% shred is enough as most enemies only have 10% resists anyway.
Shenhe does provide a substantial 750 EM kazuha buff herself. And the grouping is not that useful in the current floor 12 anyway aswell. I just bait the wolves to me and apply cast kokomi. Kokomi e is so fast at applying hydro that enemies will never escape once inside.

While doing more damage for my Ayaka team would be nice, I’m doing enough damage and I think overall, it would be better to use my wishes on a character to buff another team or get another dps to build a team off of.
Honestly speaking, I will not sugarcoat this: freeze teams with her cost much more (running four limited 5*s) while bringing less to the table than Mona+Diona. Especially if you're up against two+ enemies, 12-3 wolves being the strongest example. You're making a right choice.
Yea meta wise she isn't the best investment BUT if you have the money to whale and love her design or chara go for it

@@Soundwave1900 mona + diona sucks against wolves. Her hydro application is too little. Ayaka team appreciates kokomi much more so you can do multiple rotations with ayaka kazuha shenhe.
It's hard to make choice in Ayaka's case, that's true. There are Venti-Mona-Bennet, or Sucrose-Mona-Diona options. And if you wanna replace Diona - you've got no heal/shield. So If you're actually replacing Diona, then you'll need to replace Mona to Kokomi/Barbara for healing/hydro application purposes (obvious dmg loss with Omen effect gone and raw Mona dmg), or you'll need to replace Sucrose/Venti/Kazuha to Jean (dmg loss either way cause Jean can't utilize Shenhe's e stacks). This needs to be tested, either by math or by practice.
And also, changing Diona to Shenhe you're changing cryo battery to another character, who needs cryo battery. So you'll also need to use more ER on Ayaka, or use Amenoma Kageuchi to be able to cast Ayaka's ult on cd.
It took me a good 2 months to realize that Shenhe didn't just give her Quills to 1 member, but instead the whole party. I'm stupid for sleeping on her.

I still don’t know whether ayaka freeze team would be better off just classic mona+diona. I think you’d run into less energy problems and rotations don’t need to be as controlled. Let alone the fact that Kokomi and shenhe are 2 limited 5*s making a very expensive team. Is the damage increase worth it?
yeah, surely ayaka + shenhe with two 80 cost bursts would not be very comfortable to run, considering the latter does not generate much energy without favonius lance
Not really if you have C0 since you have to run ER polearm on her instead of her BiS. I struggle funneling particles to Ayaka enough with R5 Amenoma and Favonius bow Diona
Your videos are my favorite breakdown videos! Damn I love her so much but I've decided to skip. From what I can gather she's a good support but more a novelty character as teams she'll boost and preform well in the most already has little issue clearing content.
