    This game is amazing. After the intro moments and especially once you get into areas with denser, harder movement-gauntlets/trap-gauntlets, the Prince of Persia essence really does hit. Genuinely shocked they created such a sick Metroidvania _and_ Prince of Persia game _and_ simple but very kinesthetically pleasing combat system. Just. Man...

      The combat actually seems quite complex

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not all that complex which is a great thing, since it has pretty good depth without overburdening the player. It's definitely got more ingredients than what you'd expect from Metroidvania melee combat though, for sure.

      Although I want to see a continuation of a Sands of time like game, I also would want PoP to continue doing a Metroidvania type game too. I mean, the original PoP game is pretty much a Metroid/platform type game anyways. It's as if PoP was meant to play this way! It should be. PoP should be synonymous with platform such as Samus from metroid or Belmont and friends from castlvania.

  • @MadProphet1306
    @MadProphet1306 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I also noticed two other direct homages/references -> The way King Darius lifts up his weapon in front of him during his intro cinematic is exactly how Morgott does it in Elden Ring. Also, after you defeat him, Menolias tells us that he's weak because he still needs a weapon, and a true warrior does not need a weapon. This is exactly what Thors says in Vinland Saga, and I believe it's an homage

    I am 44yr old and have been playing games since the 80's and I have to agree that this is a real return to form for ubisoft and I have a feeling that they are turning things around, while I'm sure they will still continue to make crap and rip off people who let themselves be ripped off I think that they are going to try and make some more quality games, its just a hunch and I could be wrong but I hope not.

    Hey Jay just a heads-up. I don't know if you're aware that The Hidden One plagiarised your "When did Assassin's Creed Get Bad" video 3 weeks ago with "The Downfall of Assassin's Creed".

    I loved this game. I loved how often I died to bosses and I love how much the game made me want to improve rather than just change the difficulty. I love Mt. Qaf as a setting. I love how many eccentric NPC populate the game, a nice change of pace from your more isolated Metroids and Hollow Knights. I love how smooth the traversal was. I love the upgrades to Sargon's kit and how they can allow a skilled player to solve puzzles in many different ways. I love the score. I love how unapologetically earnest the narrative is, cheesiness and all. I love the Montpellier team and I love that a company as asinine as Ubisoft is still keeping them alive and working.
    There are flaws, and if you prefer one genre over another, that's one thing. But "I refuse to play it because it's not Sands of Time" is a weird argument. Like saying "I refuse to play Metroid Dread because it's nothing like Prime."

    Wait, so Vahram was Vergil, Orod was Kratos, and it's a pretty good guess that Radjen would've been Bayonetta if her fight wasn't cut.
    So who's Menolias? I don't think any of the big character action series star a bow user. Maybe he's Hanzo Overwatch, but that's a bit out of place next to the other three.

    This game looks really good and fun to play. It's really a shame it's made by Ubisoft and can't play it or recommend it in good conscious, at least not until Ubisoft adresses all those allegations about sexual misconduct and mistreatment of employees from which we haven't heard in years by now.
    Also this is unrelated but is kinda sad how even hardcore fans forget about Forgotten Sands when talking about the Sands tetralogy because it's genuinely better than what people give it credit for. It's also miles better than those shitty Warrior Within and Two Thrones games.

    I'm going to most definately get this game to support Ubisoft making more linear games but PoP Sands of Time is a game I replayed a couple years ago and I just didn't like as much as I used to. The enemies waves is something people bash the first Uncharted for but it's worse in SoT, in UC1 at least it was a cover based shooter and heashots are easy, in SoT, all the enemies are damage sponges and there is little means of dispatching the hordes so combat is just boring. And there is too much combat in a game that doesn't have a good combat system. I'd even say all of the Ubisoft made PoP games are better since they don't have this issue. PoP 2008 at the very least uses bad combat as a pseudo fail state for not being good at the platforming, the combat in SoT is just boring and it amazes how it gets away with that so much.
    This game does seem like it has the best combat in the series however.

    • @sosaysjay
      @sosaysjay  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree that the combat is the weakest part of SoT but I will say I’ve never seen the enemies as damage sponges. My issue with the low difficulty has always been the fact that every single enemy in the game has an instant kill combo, so each enemy dies in 3-4 button presses once you know the archetype

      I never knew that but there is just too much combat for a game that never excelled at it. It's not as bad as ICO, I'll give SoT that much but it feels lacking compared to what comes later and PoP 2008 does it's bad combat as a punishment for not being that great at parkour.

      @@dedicateddark Yes, and that is why I noted that Sargon was born the Prince of Persia, giving him as much if not more right to the throne than that original prince. In fact, the main villain Vharam is also born the Prince of Persia, and Ghassan was switched at birth but that gives him no less claim to the title of prince than the protagonist of PoP1. That means there are as many total princes of Persia in the Lost Crown as there are in the entirety of the series prior combined.

      @@sosaysjay Watched the video. My bad, the marketing material made it feel like DmC/Nu Tomb Raider than what you described. PoP is something I hold dear to my heart, and I wasn't ready for another one where the people go "New DmC is better/New Lara is more realistic/mature" or some shit. I knew the gameplay would be good because of the Rayman team, but the marketing material really made it look like they were disrespecting the franchise.
      I'm glad this one tuned out great. Will play it. But I still fear for the Sands of Time remake, I hope to see a re-imagination like Resident Evil remakes than a 1:1 remake like Dead Space where the nuances are lost but is hailed as the definitive version to play henceforth. Anyway, really my bad. I really wish I would have watched your video first, but modern gaming and the things I personally care about is a nightmare combination for my spirit.
