💥💥UPDATE: I have since taken apart the Spektrum radio's(stx2 and dx3) that come with RTR Arrma's. They indeed do have an internal antenna wire which explains why they have better distance range than Traxxas radio's. These are acceptable for speed runs but you are somewhat pushing the limits of range. These radio's also can be boosted as the connector will come off the circuit board and will allow the adding of an external booster. 💥💥
Any newer boosters? Can't seem to find the one you used.
@@Ineffablemoments33 It seems manufacturers aren’t making this style of booster anymore. They are going to a direct plug in to the wall. Thanks brother! Yeah the hardest part is getting the rubber off the hand grip and carefully ungluing the screen cover. Make sure you turn the booster on dont forget because the range is like 30 feet without it. Don't ask me how I know...lol.😅

No problem bro. I range tested it and it went way further than I could see the car and it still didn't lose range. My wife helped me and we used two way radio's.

Lol, I started speedruns on my Rustler with the stock radio. I quickly learned that it wasn't going to cut it. The range was terrible! 😆 So I wound up getting the Radiolink RC4GS. I'm still using it & almost 2yrs later it's still getting the job done. With my Limitless, I'm doing 1600ft runs, with me at point that's ~800ft range. I'm now thinking about installing a booster cuz at these longer runs I'm doing, I'm noticing that the steering gets a little wonky when trying to retrieve the car after the run.

@@UDRC85 It feels like decent quality in the hand and all the controls on it. I like it has telemetry for battery level and has a built in gyro. It really has a ton of features that more expensive radios have and some don't have. I'm just thinking what RC to put it on. Probably run it on my X-01 and maybe my Infraction.

Cool, I looked at the new RadioLink RC8X for my XO-1 build and my other RC cars but i think i might go with the Radiolink since it's the receivers are cheaper and it's similar to 7 or 10PX from Futaba. I had also considered the DX5C but the receivers are kind of pricy and to get similar range you might to put a range booster on it the only thing i don't like about the radiolink is it takes 8aa batteries but it's a big radio so i guess it's okay. I have my rc6gs hooked up to a 10000mah power bank - I think the 8 comes with a usb ready for charging/operating via usb.
Like your video, i used the links to buy the extender and things. I realized though i have the rc4gs v2, it does not have the pop off antenna cable and has it soldiered on, what can i do there if you know anything that could help.
You will have to do some soldering. The antenna wire has two wires inside it. The internal wire and a mesh type wire sheilding on the outside of it. It's very small and delicate and very hard to solder because it so small. You have to take one of those extensions you bought and carefully remove the outside to expose the thin wire in the middle and the outer mesh wire. Just look at how the wires of the existing antenna are soldered to the circuit board and you will understand. Once you solder this on you can add the booster to the outside like I did.
I have the exact same Radiolink controller and don't get half the range they advertise. My antennas are setup how they suggest and I still loose signal with my arrma infraction. I tried using a Dumborc control and only got 470' range. All controllers are brand new and installed correctly. I've been doing speed runs at my local airport where they fly rc airplanes so I don't think it's interference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Are you using the receiver with twin antennas? I just had them both standing straight up.
With the RC booster, can you solder the new antenna with/over the old and have 2 antennas? Will that double the range or get better signal strength?
I don't think that will add much range at all. You can try it.
What is the model of this gps will talk? Is from Flysky or Skyrc? Can you share the model of this GPS?
Its the SkyRC analyzer bluetooth GPS.
If I extend the antenna on my car will it still go further tho…? Just wondering ig cuz I like my tq controller better then my fly sky
I don't think extendending it is a good idea. I think the length is optomized for the frequency. Best just to have it as high on the car and straight up.
I have a traxxas bandit and I put a 2.4ghz digital wireless home security camera on top of it. But now my range is more than cut in half when it’s powered on. Should I get a more powerful remote? Or should I try to get a remote than runs on different channels so it doesn’t interfere with the camera?
I would ditch that camera and get a proper FPV camera. FPV video transmitters are usually on 5.8ghz so you are trying to do both on 2.4ghz and they are causing interference with each other.

What percent should you have expetional on for the dx5c?
I have mine like -100 I believe. I have it set so there is very little movement in the middle of the servo travel.

i have my fpv car setup nearly done, but don’t have a radio and receiver yet. I want the BEST range that’s possible, so i can drive through the neighborhood as far as i want. I looked for the Dumbo RC. Do you have a better idea? Maybe an other Radio in combination with a booster?
Any radio that you can put a booster on will be good. How powerful is your FPV video transmitter? You get less range with FPV when it's on the ground.
@@KaizerTest i dont know, dont tested yet. I have a foxeer cat 3 and a Tramp HV. I bought Immerson RC Fat Shark antennas but they were antennas for goggles said someone to me, so i have to buy new one for the transmitter
@@tugrasarchive It looks like the Tramp HV is 600mw max power. That should be pretty good. I'm into flying fpv quads these days and having fun. FPV is great.

I don't see why not. Carefully open it up and see if there is a UFL connector from the antenna to the board. If there is you're golden.
Do you power the booster with transmitter battery? Or you power it separately using 2 battery? One for transmitter and one for booster?
I have a separate 2s battery that I power the booster with. But if you are looking for a radio with really long range Radiomaster just came out with the Radiomaster MT12 radio. The one with the ELRS (ExpressLRS) protocol is a super long range protocol. That would be your best bet. Or if on a budget the Radiolink RC6GS radio

Hey! Im planning on buying a rc car and making it fpv! I have the video transmitter and receiver, but its the radio range im trying to extend. How long range would you say the spectrum one with the extender have?
I tested it to 2500ft. It will definitely go further than your video feed. I recommend 1000mw vtx for the ground if you plan to go far. You get less viodeo range on the ground than in the air.

what size and cell is that lipo that you have on the side on the remote?
Great question. It's an 800mah 2s 7.4v lipo. You can use any brand but of course you don't want a massive battery velcro'd to your transmitter. Also the booster can take 3s BUT I chose 2s so it will stay cool. Some people said their booster gets hot..mine gets warm not hot and I tested range with my wife. It goes way further than I can see. Check this battery out..it should work. It's a little bigger but it should last you quite a while on a charge. Two questions, did you ever find out which one is better for range? Modeling the DX 5C, or the 600 m from the radio link?
My second question, is there any particular reason why you are running the wire outside of the unit couldn’t you run it down the handle and sneak it out near the amplifier just for a better look?
Both the DX5c modded and the Radiolink will give you more range than your eyes can see. The wire outside is just the way I did it. You can wire it up any way that you prefer. It was just an easy setup for me. You could probably buy the wire with a right angle or add one so it comes out and goes down the handle.
If I put the 2s LiPo battery in the remote would my signal get stronger because I'm having a problem with signal and it's not because of my car or my antennas they're all open everything is all the way it's supposed to be thinking about moving my receiver out of the box and just building something on top so we can stay up basically above everything but like if I would go to a big building where there's a lot of activity and like a gym or something and they would knock my signal totally out and they wouldn't even get back on until I move the car away from the building
Does this sound like a problem that you ran into or is this something that happens is there something wrong with my receiver should I put the 2s LiPo battery would I get stronger signal can you please help me because my car is a pretty expensive and I hate for the fact that have a runaway vehicle on a typing success that's beefed up running a 100 pack of smart battery so scary please help me
What radio? And putting a lipo inside the radio wont change your signal strength.
I'm looking to just upgrade a regular off road RC car with a camera just for fun to drive around and make videos. Is this an expensive upgrade? I know nothing about electronics, is it fairly easy to learn?
Well the radio upgrade is like $30. But the camera, video transmitter and goggles cost a little more. A cheap but decent setup will cost about $110, VTX(video transmitter) you can do for $20 and the camera maybe $30. Then you need to power the VTX which you can do off the car battery with a 5v step down regulator for maybe $15. That's pretty much everything.

@@homelackin2234 No worries. Eachine EV800d are decent goggles and around $100. Anything cheaper would kind of suck. You have to think about eye relief and if your eye will be too close to the screen on these cheap goggles. I have the 800d's and they arent bad. Bulky but they have a good field of view and don't strain my eyes.
Have you tested the dx5c with booster against the radiolink ?

Yeah I haven't tested one against the other yet. My boosted DX5c goes way further than I can see. I used my 2 way radios and let my wife hold my transmitter and I got in my car with my slash and drove down the street until I couldn't see her anymore. Like double the distance of the furthest you can see with perfect sight. I should have recorded exact distance. But she had full control over the car. Must have been 3500ft at least.

@@Yan-ql6wo No I don't use AVC. I did use it before but it caused it to speed wobble. Then I ran it very low. Now I just have it off. It seems to make no good effect for speed running. Having toe out on the front and toe in on the rear works best for me. I even have a fair amount of slop in the front steering but the castor and toe out make it track straight. Steering exponential keeps my shaking hands from overcorrecting. You are faster than me now by like 5mph, I should be asking you for tips brother....lol.😂

I'm not sure about the futaba but the RC6gs has more range than your eyes can see.

@@just719 Yeah no worries. For the price and no mods this is the best range you will get and need. Like I said it goes as far as anyone can see the car so no need to do mods on a radio. Even for speed runs. Get the one that has the receiver that has two antennas on it.

Probably...lol. I should have made a video as I did the mod on the Dx5c but it is what it is. This video should help some people still. And I was shocked to learn that the Traxxas radio had no antenna...hahaha.
Dang I'm not getting the green light on the antenna booster it did before when I tried it on the wall socket
How many volts is your battery? and make sure you have the wires connected properly from battery to booster.
@@KaizerTest looks like the little pigtail that goes into the transmitter board antenna part was loose a little I wonder if I can solder it into place with just a tiny bit of solder to keep it from moving but I'm getting green light now for the time being
@@robertlopez9323 You mean the thing that kinda snaps on to the circuit board? make sure its fully on but be gentle. I think mine kind of snapped on. But like I said be careful. Get a cheap hot glue gun from the dollar store and put a little hot glue on the board and connector to hold it on. You can hot glue the cable to something inside as well to secure it all. I wouldn't use solder unless something is actually coming off the circuit board.

@@Modernwomensociety To be honest I forget. Plug the new connector onto the same spot as the original wire you remove from the circuit board.
I have the radiolink radio but can't get the throttle to work on it with the stock esc on the xo1 I can only get the steering to work.
I drove myself crazy trying to figure this out..lol. You need to first unlock the X-01 100mph feature using the Traxxas radio and the traxxas app. Once you do this then connect the esc to your computer with the Castle Link chip and run Castle Link. There is a box you need to check off for the Traxxas Live Link. Then after doing this you can use the X-01 esc with a non Traxxas radio. It took me hours to figure this out but eventually it worked. I tried 3 radios and just like you the steering only worked.

I have an unmodified one of those radiolink radios and my 600mw vtx cuts out before the radio does on my fpv car!

@@KaizerTest its hard to tell depends on location, even in a high rf enviroment like in my town park i would say 5-600m plus, comfortable 600m in an open enviroment and my rssi alarm is set at - 85 and beeped once behind a building , havent even tried going further than that but it would for sure.
@@Hughjanus720 Good to know...hahaha. Definitely excellent range on this radio. I tested it with my wife and two way radios. I took my RC in my real car as far as I could see her then went a littel further until I couldnt see her and it still had perfect control of the car. More than enough range for speed runs 😃
