THE WORLDS CHEAPEST FORM OF MOTORSPORT? Tamiya TT-02 Model Car Racing!

  • In this video I build, race and upgrade my very first Tamiya TT-02! I picked the car up last week from Rennicks Modeltune (Link Below if you want to buy one) after the guys at the track (Modeltune Raceway) put together a spare car and let me join in on the first round of the winter championship.
After building the car, I packed what I needed and headed to the track for Round 2!
While I was there, Ian from CML Distribution kindly let me have a quick look at the all new FTX Stinger…. I tried to convince Ian to let me take it for a test drive, but he was having none of it (guessing he’s seen my driving skills on my previous uploads 😂)
Tag along with me on my journey to participate in what is quite possibly the cheapest form of motorsport available on the market to date! While the price tag may be small, the smiles were HUGE 😃
Let’s just say, while the racing is competitive, the guys don’t take it too seriously, I went home with a sore face and sides from laughing so much…. If you are local to Modeltune, I strongly recommend you call sometime to check out their shop and who knows, maybe grab yourself a TT-02 and come racing with us!!
Let me know in the comments if you have any tips or tricks that you think might help me in my quest to reach the “A Finals)

If you like the 3D Printed Bumper, steering upgrades or braces you see on my car and want to get some for yourself, then head to eBay and search for Furious RC

Biggest tip I can provide for this exact kit, or at least all SWB cars, you want to not follow the directions and build it the long wheel base. Yes the tires are a little further back in the wheel arches, but the handling difference on carpet pays off big time.
Also, do not install part D19 under the drive shaft in the front for more steering, and put something thicker in the gear diffs, like the Tamiya Anti-Wear grease. Makes it MUCH faster on carpet. I also remove two of the planetary gears inside the diffs to allow for faster cornering.
For the shocks, do not put the spacer part B9 in any of the shocks, you want the droop a little big. You also have to have the outside hole for the top mount in the front, and the inside one for the rear shocks.

We do similar racing on the Tamiya TT platform with MAN trucks, it's lots of fun when everyone is on the same playing field

@@TimsRcsurgery slightly more top/front heavy with the MAN bodies on, so the handling is a bit different you can throw them around corners :)

What modifications are allowed? It looks like you upgraded the shocks so that's good. I would put ball bearings, aluminum hexes, aluminum prop shafts with joints and aluminum motor mount. It doesn't look like the track is too big so I wouldn't get the high-speed gearing. But if you don't want to do all that I would just put ball bearings and aluminum motor mount. But set up wise I would use the short wheelbase configuration that makes it a lot more nimble. Also a competition touring car body might help.

Thanks buddy! It has bearings, I’m waiting on diff cups for the front shafts, has oil filled shocks and the steering has been beefed up a little with Furious RC 3D Printing parts. I’ll have to see if rules allow an alloy motor mount, it’s the 2nd one I’ve had fail on me 🤦‍♂️
