One of our neighbors, just down the road, raised the bed of his dump truck, then proceeded to lay across the bed rails to grease a fitting. As he lay there, a hydraulic hose burst and he is forever dead. He left behind a young wife and a very young son. If a hose breaks, whatever it is that's up in the air, is instantly on the ground, faster than you can blink. I'm a farmer, and yes, I've done it too, but it's not a good idea. You are betting your life on a hose. Lee
Josh I cringed when u were working under that bucket. One of the reasons I love your channel is your safety habits. Please be careful n find a safety precaution to put in place❤
I have been around hevy equipment for a long time. Your grease buster is a temporary fix. This winter pull the pins and clean the dry grease and dirt out of every thing. Also stop slacking off grease more often! That problem you are having is due to lack of maintenance. Friction cause heat that dried grease and dirt into a solid thats why no grease is traveling where it needs to be. Good luck keep up the hard work.
Josh I had the same problem with plugged grease shafts. The zero fittings were clear but the shaft was plugged. My mechanic showed me to use a propane torch to heat it up to soften the old grease and it worked. But I definitely like that tool.
Josh, great Tool Tuesday share, always appreciated. PLEASE, ALWAYS use a mechanical jam when working under a hydraulically lifted machine. If a hose were to fail while you are under there working you are a dead man walking. Maybe you were using a mechanical jam and if so, please share with your audience from a safety perspective. Thank you for an excellent channel, I enjoy it very much!!
Lock'n'lube has been the best I have used for both grease and air chucks. Highly recommend. They are expensive but in hassle and broken fittings they are worth it to me. If you use a grease gun for a farm/ ranch or commercially looki into them.
FYI......... In the future use a heat gun (I have a 20V Dewalt Battery one) and use it to heat the joint until it gets hot, (no flame worries) then try greasing it or use the impact greaser with half and half penetrating oil and grease mixed together.... Works every time! 😁 Also....hard plastic mallet works better...or a steel hammer..... I use a small 2lb sledge hammer...
I LOVE my LockNLube grease gun! That needle adapter? It's exactly what you think it is. Think about all those ball joints and such that no longer come with a grease fitting. If only there was some way to 'Inject' some grease in there. As a wise man once said, "Act Accordingly"
Powered grease guns are fun (and expensive). But my simple manual grease gun lets me hear the movement of the grease into the joint. I use the Lube Shuttle system
That grease buster looks like the bomb. Way faster than disassembly and cleaning. At least it might postpone pulling everything apart for a while longer.
got one of the grease clearing tools. Spent hours using it and every trick I knew to clear a fitting on a pivot point on my backhoe. Eventually found that the bushing was rotated and fitting was lined up with solid metal on the bushing. Used a torch to blow a hole through it and no problems since. First time I ever saw that.
Lock and Lube is a superior product. Story: Back in the early 1970’s I had a foreign motorcycle with strange grease fittings on the rear suspension swingarm bushings. John Deere sold a grease fitting with metric threads and American style “zerk” fitting on the business end. Dirt cheap, and no more searching for the grease needle. Show and shine judges never noticed those fittings.
What perfect timing, I was under a bale mover for a couple hours yesterday fighting 2 fittings that wont take for anything. I pulled the fittings & shot grease through them, then sprayed degreaser inside and moved it up & down trying to break up the old grease. Tried the grease gun in all different positions along its motion but it just will not budge. Imy gonna have to take a shot with that grease buster I finally got that Lock n Lube earlier this spring and it has been worth every penny. It saves so much time and grease with almost no mess but it leaves just enough grease on the nipple to protect it from dirt and water. Wish I had known about it a long time ago
That needle is very handy. I use it on my shop roll up door, to get in tight places that has a contact surface, but no grease fitting. I also use it to grease bearings, by just sticking it in between the roller bearings, and give a few pumps till it comes out the other side, repeat all the way around, and you have a perfectly greased bearing. Red N Tacky, is all I use, on all grease items. Lil more pricey, but well worth it. A dead blow hammer will work better with the grease buster. Still no damage to your plunger, and your impact(rubber hammer) won't absorb so much and transfer energy without damage.
Gotta love those bottom grease fittings. It’s almost a design flaw. If you watch wear those tracks throw dirt just about every time the machine moves you’ll see the issue. Even that magic locking device won’t really help unclog the dirt in the bush. Knock the pin halfway out and you’ll see the lubrication hole in the pin. Usually 1/8 halfway through pin to meet up with the central hole with the grease fitting. Grab yourself a carbide tip drill bit, the pin is hardened, about 5/16 or even larger. The larger hole is less prone to blocking. Gotta keep on them with the grease though.
Hey if you will fill it full of greese until it builds pressure then make your bucket go up and down it will grind that hard piece of grease down and let the fresh grease start the flow
I have to be honest, I'm so glad to see someone else struggle like I do. Every time I see people on TH-cam grease a machine they do it perfectly, with no problems, and don't get a spot of grease on them. I'm like COME ON! Good to see someone be real about it
Hey Josh D sharp tip and the needle come in real Handy. I had a sealed bearing on my John Deere planter that had dried up and I needed to plant couldn't wait to get a bearing and pull it all apart. I drilled a real tiny hole into the side of the sealed bearing and put in carb cleaner and that loosened up all the old Greece and was able to get some more grease in it. I sealed it over with a little bit of glue and was able to plant everything and replace it later. Sunset was fairly slow speed when I did get it apart I almost felt like I should have just left it alone and not even replace the bearing. I was told by Grease salesman it was very knowledgeable that Greece is actually a combination of a clay and a lighter oil. So the problem with those fittings getting plugged up is really that the grease dries out. I know those Buster things can work okay but sometimes they won't and the suggestion of heating it up is probably not too bad but you can also see if you can get the grease loosened up by putting in carb cleaner. If you can exercise and move your pins sometimes that will get that grease loose enough so you can feed through with fresh grease and get the old stuff out of there. My cat 226 was used and it came with floppy bucket pins those are the worst things for getting clogged up and taking out those pins. Shame on caterpillar on my machine there were not bushings. And the next step was having to take out the welded bushing and have somebody weld new ones in and then line bore. I got injured before I ever got around to getting that job done. Which was going to be costly and hard to find somebody to do it. Do whatever you can to keep those pins from going out on you and see if you actually have removable bushings. Caterpillar said well you'll have to install those on your own afterwards. The machine was great but they cheapened out on the lower dollar ones I guess. I hope that helps you

Hey now, don't knock instant coffee Josh! The U.S. has not really embraced it, but it is regularly consumed in other countries. I began drinking it on deployments and it became routine; easier to generate hot water out in the boonies than brew a pot of coffee and definitely simple to make a cup as strong as you want. Try brands like Black Rifle Coffee or Nescafe. I do have the Lock & Lube tip and really appreciate how clean it makes the entire greasing process.
Your original grease gun hose tip has Nings on it. If you understand how it works, you can tighten and loosen the grip of your original one look at your original tip. The end of it turns to tighten onto a greaser tip then you turn it to loosen it for the let go.. Works like a “drill chuck”
Lock-N-Lube is the only grease attachment I use with my Dewalt grease gun! Best combo since Batman & Robin! Use Mobile 1 grease every other time I lube as it is red and you can see it as soon as it breaks the seal.
It may be my OCD going berserk ( no pun intended), but have you thought of adding boots to keep dirt out of your zerk fittings? They are very inexpensive and handy!

Part of the problem may have been the old grease fitting but while you had it out, you may have saved yourself a lot of time and frustration by cleaning the old, dried grease out of the channel. I've used just a piece of wire or a drill bit (by hand) to get the old gunk out. It won't get the gunk out of where it makes a 90 to get to the bearing surface, if that fitting is in the end of a pin that goes through, but it often gets out enough that it will take grease after you put in the new fitting. You could also use the fluid film or or pentrating oil in the channel once you've cleaned it out.
yep I'm with ya....however if I trust it to hold 2000lbs of dirt I should be able to trust it with nothing.....even changing a tire without jack stands is unsafe. I'm confident this machine has no leaks and will hold...plus it's got a safety bar
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer If one of the hyd supply/return hoses that feed the arm hyd cylinder were to burst when the arm was raised.... is there a safety mechanism to keep the arm from instantly crashing down? I'm not familiar with the detailed workings of that equipment.
Most grease fittings you can twist the head so it’s not stuck…might need vise grips to loosen it at first but should only be finger tight….Lock n Lube is the way to go though.
Take the grease fitting out and dig some junk out then put fitting back in. Fill the grease gun with a long handle with wd 40 or similar lubricant. Now pump the WD 40 into the grease fitting. The grease gun should provide up to 10k pounds of pressure. After it breaks loose then pump grease into the fitting. Do not use the pistol grip grease gun. Lever operated handle to get max pressure. Look at the pressure rating of the grease gun being used. Get a higher pressure gun with long lever.
Lock and lube is awesome . Just remember you can’t use many of the little attachments on a powered grease gun they aren’t made for those only the adapter is 10000 supported

I'm gonna say the hand held grease gun is easier to finesse in this case....power grease guns are nice but I prefer the old hand held if just doing a few fittings
40 years maintaining, fixing elevators and escalators, some were located outside in the weather. NEVER NEVER NEVER get under anything that is not supported by at least two means. I have seen chain falls break, coffin hoists break, cable hoist break, Hydraulic pipe lines break, hydraulic hoses break, 6" diameter shafts snap in two. That is just not a good choice Josh and unacceptable for someone who knows better. Seen to many people get seriously injured or killed for saving a few minutes not getting what they should have to do the job safely.
That last funky grease fitting you showed is one I bought from John deere Deere for 35$. The front wheel hub fitting is at 45 degree angle and youyou can't gi Et to it with anything else but it was a waste of money. I just take the wheels off periodically. That fluid film is awesome. It's a homeowner edition for rustproofing a vehicle. I spray my truck every fall and have no rust on 08 f250 in upstate NY. I spray inside panels, doors and frame it's awesome but stinks. 😊
Just think you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble than using that thing. Take the grease fitting out for the torch to the end of it all about grease and melt out and be just fine

Kroil and PB Blaster are really effective. For big projects you can use 50/50 acetone and ATF.
The needle tips are useful for chain saw bars with bearing tips.

Gave it a leak .. I mean like👍Grease to please.
Very nice!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 LMAO at the thumbnail picture and topic.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That last funky grease fitting you showed is one I bought from John deere Deere for 35$. The front wheel hub fitting is at 45 degree angle and youyou can't gi
Et to it with anything else but it was a waste of money. I just take the wheels off periodically. That fluid film is awesome. It's a homeowner edition for rustproofing a vehicle. I spray my truck every fall and have no rust on 08 f250 in upstate NY. I spray inside panels, doors and frame it's awesome but stinks. 😊
Thankyou for not calling them zerks lol
Just think you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble than using that thing. Take the grease fitting out for the torch to the end of it all about grease and melt out and be just fine
It wasn’t the grease fitting there was a clog in the bushing my friend
You have a DeWalt power grease gun why aren't you using it?

battery grease guns have their place....but for this a hand pump is just fine
Wheres ya glasses!
Pull the pin and clean off the corrosion (rust). Goal should be fixed right the very first time.
