Oooooooouuuuffffff!!!! I was as breathless as an ingénue after her introduction to Their Majesties at her Debutante Ball😂😂 It's unbelievable our resourceful host somehow is able to continue mining such a rich seam of gold and generously donate from it a regular sequence of rare and sparkling treasures! Bravo doesnt begin to cover it - Bravissimo!❤
besides the Technique I always loved that he carries the ENERGY of the Rossinian Bravura... he enters FRENZY when he sings Rossini (so few singers are allowed by their instrument / technique to do that)
His Ramiro with Baltsa as Cenerentola in Chicago brought the house down too. She eventually recorded it with Araiza in London - they were both managed by Rita Schulz in Zurich at that time. She started her agency with three artistes only - the third was Van Dam. With artistes of this calibre, her phone was ringing non stop!
To paraphrase a well known movie quote, I love the sound of Rockwell in the morning!!!! Never the most beautiful of voices, but certainly one unashamed to revel in the embarrassment of riches it did possess.
From the 1989 1st Met telecast of Rossini's Il Barberie Dii Sivligia live from the Metropolitan Opera House starring Tenor: Rockwell Blake as Count Almaviva.
His different dynamics, phrases and effortless top notes are amazing. I just have to notice, that he aspirates the coloratura sometimes and some critics and the singing professors at my music university were always quite strictly with that. I am not so sensitive with that but i notice it here.
was just watching this recording this morning. his free rubati and turn anticipating the interpolated C push the boundaries of good taste, but are executed with such well-meaning camp and technique that I just have to give it a pass. it wouldnt be rocky without theatrics. love this recording.
No, no ad libitum ornamentations. These are all conventional ornaments commonly used in this aria by all singers. Juan Diego Flórez does it the same way.
voices are like birds. you wouldn’t expect a crow to be as fast a falcon or a falcon to be as strong as a harpee eagle. Different voices shine at different things. Only a few ppl have sung Almaviva in Barbiere and Radames in Aida. Di stefano, Bonisolli , Lauri-volpi are the ones on the top of my head.

That's 100% true!
Thanks for the post, dear friend.
All that, and he only took three breaths. I can't sleep now. 👍🙏❤️
What a DreamBoat! 🎼🫶🏾🎶‼️ When singers produced beautiful tonality and what trills!

Grazie Theo ❤Tenore dotato di tecnica notevole
I need this today. Instant favorite. Rossini is life.

And by the way I feel "Decorates" doesnt quite do it justice - try "Drenches"😆❤️❤️❤️

Would he have been able to sing the opera Aida? Did he have enough volume?
Could he sing Aida's Radamès you mean? No way. I don't see why he would though, just like you would never ask Franco Corelli to sing Almaviva.
