Good info. My piriformis started hurting like crazy last April from walking a lot in Vegas. The pain shot down all the way down my leg and lasted for about 2 months. I have focused on losing weight, stretching 20 every minutes every morning before work and strengthening my core muscles. I still feel a little tension deep down on my right butt, but I am pain free these days.
@@i.gharib-huber9164 Yes still pain free. I still maintain my stretching in the morning and still keeping the weight off. There is no overnight cure, so be patient with yourself. Good luck!
mnm addict I’m having the same horrific pain especially at night I’ve done some stretching, Straighten and massage and I have been feeling any relief. now my question is I know you’re not a doctor. but on your experience should I keep stretching and massaging or just rest? Thank you.
@@oeoellavecom If stretching and massages give you temporary relief, then I would continue doing it. If it doesn't, then go see a chiropractor. They really can't help cure the piriformis problem, but they can at least make sure your body is correctly aligned. Squatting like a baseball catcher gave me immediate temporary relief when the pain was too unbearable to walk. Good luck to you!
Very very good advice. I've been dealing with this , on and off, for 4-5 years and almost all the professionals that i have seen were not looking hard enough for the causes in my opinion. A lot of guessing and trying. But i know it is not a simple problem...

Hello Tina! What a wonderful and accurate description for piriformis syndrome! I would be at your clinic, requesting help and instruction from YOU, however I live in MN! I really have to thank you for offering the most accurate explanation I have found! As a former LMT, I understand the muscular synchronicity! But finding a PT who can help me has been futile! Thank you of offering to help find one where I live! I thank you also for this offer, to help anyone in their area of residence! You’re and angel!
Sheila I live in Minneapolis. If you could, tell me where you found a PT for Piriformis I would be so happy. Am suffering through it right now, Thanks.
Sheila, (My name is Sheila also) I completely agree, this is the best description I’ve seen. I had suffered from piriformis syndrome to the point where it was debilitating. I was having to use a walker and when we went on vacation I had to rent a scooter. I couldn’t walk but half a block. I would pull myself up our stairs at home, sleep was not in the cards, the pain and lack of strength was so bad. - mine came about from work, sitting in an office chair for 20+ years. I’m almost 57. My pain specialist was recommending physical theropy. I refused to be on any pain killers. I’d had theropy in the past and knew that would not work. I had belonged to a gym and went back to talk to the Mgr there to see what she might suggest. One of the trainers specialized in “The Egoscue Method”. This is an approach to postural theropy. You learn that postural imbalance could be the root of the chronic pain and that range of motion is also key. Like what Tina was saying, the Method addresses all the muscles. It focuses on the mobility and strengthening and harmony of those muscles. Having you learn to use the proper muscles for the activities at hand so other muscles aren’t compensating and getting taxed out and hurting. In talking with him and researching the muscles I was experiencing the pain in, I realized physical theropy would only focus on one area, not my body as a whole. I had multiple areas. I decided to try the method. Yes, I had just hired a personal trainer! We set up twice a week trainings. Within one weeks I could tell a significant difference. I could go up the stairs with much better ease. However I did still have pain. I could see how my body was imbalanced. How certain muscles on one side of my body were weaker or stronger then the other side. He explained that because I had injured or had some surgeries certain muscles had carried the load prior to the surgeries to compensate for the damaged side and the surgery side had not gotten a chance to get proper rehab. First visit: He ran me through a series of physical test the first day to assess my posture alignment, balance. Second visit: we started my first exercises. (He sent an email with videos of how to do the exercises). I did those every day I didn’t see him. We continued build on those exercises and he would send another set of videos. A month went by and my mobility was amazing! No walker, Up and down stairs, walking the grocery stores and department store. My pain was still there but it took longer for it to kick in and stop me. I could see tremendous progress. I’m now in my 5th month with him. We’ve started my “real strengthening” Exercises. (At 4 months) Im so much stronger. I’m zooming up and down those stairs with laundry LOL I’m cooking full meals standing. I let the house cleaning service go-doing all myself now. And I can now not be afraid to attend out local street festivals afraid my hips will seize up and the pain will become excruciating. The pain before was a constant 8. Now it sits at 0-2. The pain down my leg has subsided. No more stiffness if I get up in the morning or up from sitting. All those muscles Tina talked about got stronger and are more mobile and that constant pain started to Diminish. I won’t kid you, it took work, pain and dedication to get to this point. I had xrays, MRIs and clearance from my Dr that my spine, hips and all were fine before I started. That left muscle. So, there would be no way for me to mess anything up. It would hurt but I pushed through (with my trainer telling me I’m not harming anything. I needed to wake my muscles up. Get mobility back in them). So I would breath. Focus on my goals I set and kept going. As they say, This is my new normal, this is my new life. I have to keep this up. Maintenance. So check it out. Good luck to you and anyone who reads this and wants to move forward with life when chronic pain rules your life. Take your life back!

With our terrible winter, I have had to do much shoveling this year! I am certain that all this exercise has strengthened my core and belly muscles! This is a direct improvement to any back pain issues because it is a leading cause among several, that contribute to low back pain and sciatica!

I believe my pain is coming from the piroformis muscle and sciatic nerve. My pain only happens when it sit and sometimes when I lay down. Goes away immediately when I stand up. Drives me crazy. I get tempory relief when I roll on lacrosse ball and do piriformis stretches. I had to make a stand up computer workstation at my job. Helps with my hip but now my feet are taking a beating for it. I don’t have pain when I do the piriformis stretches though but I think I still have piriformis syndrome. I also have major pain on my sit bone. This is all happening in my left hip only.

I dont know if I suffer from piriformis syndrome but after playing football ive had some pain in my left buttock. It started from my lowback then a few days later the pain went down to my buttock. I dont feel any type of tingling or difficulty sitting comfortably but the pain gets intense when im standing on the left leg or laying on my stomach and trying to lifting my leg. This shit is so freaking annoying
I get it...we see patients at our clinic all the time with piriformis issues that have gone unresolved. I had pain for 4 weeks, the day after I started stretching and exercise the pain decreased rapidly. Didn't need pain medication, that's how well it improved. Sit on a tennis ball to apply pressure to the knots and smooth out the muscles. My pain was like a red hot rebar being poked in the butt cheek.
Hi . Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Would you mind elaborating when you say " in a very particular and sequential manner" ? Thanks again. (10:35 approx) in relation to the actual treatment of the muscles which may be tight or weak etc.
I have had PS for about two years, your explanation has been very informative. My symptoms have been exactly as you describe; pain in the right buttock but now both buttocks and occasionally going into the back of the leg. I do yoga, and circuit training and miss out jumping and running, but try and walk daily unless it’s too painful for me walk, so that blood can flow to this area. Pity I’m in the Uk and not in Philadelphia!
Very informative video! Unfortunately I'm in the Houston area. My issue stems from standing or walking for extended periods. My left hip/buttock area will start will become painful with numbness which affects my entire leg. Once I sit , squat or bend over the symtoms go away. I'm a runner and cyclist and lift weights and I don't experience these symtoms when performing those exercises. It's only when I'm standing or walking. I've been to many doctors, took steroid shorts but it never help. Anyone experienced this ?
Hey Mario, I've had this piriformis issue for about 3 months. I'm pretty active in my job. I do construction but I think mine came from sitting too long. I play poker semi-professional and I was putting in. 6 to 10 hours a night just sitting too long and one day I just gave out on me and I went and got a deep tissue massage which made it way worse. I couldn't even walk for a few weeks. Once it slowly healed. Had MRI x-rays everything was ruled out. I know that's what it is and I have the same symptoms you do, too. When it really starts to hurt if I just sit down or lay down, I'm fine. Although I can't sit for too long because When I get up and ends up hurting more. It's a real pain in the ass as you know, LOL. I had a steroid shot help for a few weeks, but now the pain is back again. I'm trying not to sit for too long and playing poker anymore right now because that seems that aggravate it. I'm hoping just some rest in time and it will heal. The one thing that gives me complete relief as if I take about 6 to 800 mg of ibuprofen.
@@adagial3048 Wow, thank you very much for taking the time to share that information with me. That's interesting. You said that about magnesium because I noticed I was having some other muscle twitching. And spasms and I started drinking some multivitamin and mineral Solutions everyday. I will go to the health food store. And get the items you mentioned. And also I'll try the bath. Thank you so much.
@@Edward-xd1td Guys .. I appreciate you sharing your experiences and insights. This has been extreemly frustrating. I was one who never took much supplements, but I'll go get that magnesium. I'll also continue self massaging. Hey Edward I did go for deep tissue massages before and yes i felt it made things worst. I had steriod shots, been to the chiropractor and not much help. I do sit all day as I work in an office environment. I have a doctor appointment on Tuesday, so ill keep you informed.. Thanks again for responding.. much appreciated!!
@@MoHandyPro15 I can sympathize Mario. Mine's been almost 4 months now and I've tried everything what's work for me is number one do not get any deep tissue massage at all and go easy on the stretching and strengthening exercises. I've done them and it seems like it makes it worse. I've read that sometimes it's better to just let this heal slowly the trouble is when you're sitting everyday. You're compressing it and that's pushing into the sciatic. You must get up every 15 or 20 minutes and walk and stretch for five minutes if you can or at least twice an hour. I have not been playing any poker at all, and I'm slowly getting better. I can tell. Today was one of my best days ever in a long time. I walked almost 8,000 steps with hardly any pain at all.
i was very fit and sporty untill i got in a new job involving a lot of driving around 250km a day i liked the job a lot but after 3 months i got sciatica and when i put a cushion under me while driving the pain down the leg just vanished, i hope u are doing well and still driving pain free
Great explanation but no bright future for improvement. Most Ppl comments are they suffer for years and looking how to improve the painful condition reason I watch your Vlog. Looking for answers 🤔
I have been unable to stand or walk more than 20 feet for 7 months. Any programs out in the west? Have done pt, chiropractor, acupuncture and now docs think I need an epidural. Not much faith in that!
cathy vandenberg How are you now feeling Cathy ? I have the same, struggling with it for months now. Manuel therapy, dry needling, shock wave . Recently i started following yoga class, anti sciatica program. Cathy VDB ? Belgie ? :-)
I was just diagnosed with it. I have no back or butt pain. I knew something was wrong bc my left leg goes numb while standing still and ONLY standing still. When I'm waiting in line at the store, or standing on the subway, or taking a shower... but if I'm walking I'm fine. Same for sitting and laying down. No movement while standing brings the pain. I was told my glutes are too tight and it is pinching the sciatic nerve. Its crazy because I don't work out but from walking so much in NY I apparently need to stretch more.
Great explanation for this problem. I thought I corrected it with therapy but I am a runner, and I guess it is letting me know it's stressed out again. It really hurts, especially when your muscles are just waking up or in the morning. I've got very a "solid" build, so it feels like I pulled something back there in the right buttock. Everybody calls in sciatica, but that's really an effect, not the cause, isn't it?
Then listen bitch.... She is trying to explain to you why so that your understand how to fix the problem. You lucky she gave you any information for free because she paid to learn all this information.
awww poor baby ! you are missing the point of educating yourself so you can figure out how to best deal with it - no one can take your pain away [especially if you are a 'pain in the ass' ] ironically, you talked so little but said so much about your inability to listen and learn

We are in the process of creating an online program for self treatment that should be available in in a few months.
Excellent video , thank you so much.
GREAT VIDEO! for people who are not US based-can use please give an indication of the muscles involved which should be stretch and or strengthened?

Did you create an online programm for self treatment?
We have not released it just yet however our pelvic pain solution program for women addresses much that needs to be done for piriformis syndrome to start. Here is the link:

I believe my pain is coming from the piroformis muscle and sciatic nerve. My pain only happens when it sit and sometimes when I lay down. Goes away immediately when I stand up. Drives me crazy. I get tempory relief when I roll on lacrosse ball and do piriformis stretches. I had to make a stand up computer workstation at my job. Helps with my hip but now my feet are taking a beating for it. I don’t have pain when I do the piriformis stretches though but I think I still have piriformis syndrome. I also have major pain on my sit bone. This is all happening in my left hip only.
I’m so sorry you are going through this and this is exactly why we are trying to educate on these subjects. We would love to answer all the questions that come in however it becomes a liability to give medical advice without sufficient knowledge and questioning of your history and background. The best we can help those who are not local to us (in Philadelphia, PA) is either via our online programs or a video consult. Both links are listed below:
We have a free 30 minute powerpoint to help you better understand what is going on on in both of these links below and if you feel the program can help then you can follow through with the program.

That's the thing. You can't sit around, mope, and blame yourself for past mistakes. Active physical therapy, and multiple times a day stretching is required.
Ive been likee this for a year now, snd i do all those things, im getting crazy, could you share your daily routine, so i could pick up some things that might work?
even your voice has a comfortin or healing touch ma'am and finally I am on track to focussing on holistic attention rather than the fit/starts been going through till now Captain Shankar Sethuraman indian marine corps vet
Well done!!! Thank you!
Thank you. Good stuff.
Thank You.
very informative, thanks :))
You're welcome! We're glad you found this information helpful.
We are developing an online program for this issue and hopefully have it available soon. in the interim those that have questions and need recommendations have found that having an online video consult helps significantly:

@@RebalancePhysicalTherapy oh never mind im pain free now and back on the football pitch. Mine wasen't as bad as others thank god 😥
Thank u so much for your knowledge
My pain is extreme level I can’t even stand and walk for last 5 Months
Hi just wondering how yr feeling? Ivr suffer from this to its very painful
Hi I hope you’re doing better. Can you share what help you? For the rest of us that are suffering from this pain. thank you.
Sooo very informative! Thank you! I’ve been suffering since March with this...so massage therapy and physio will cure it?
Not necessarily...it's a combination of soft tissue and release work along with correcting improper mechanics around the hip/pelvis and low back
Hi . Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Would you mind elaborating when you say " in a very particular and sequential manner" ? Thanks again. (10:35 approx) in relation to the actual treatment of the muscles which may be tight or weak etc.
Im curious as well
good
Mine started with my first pregnancy 6 years ago and hasn’t gone away since
6 years? OMG I was wondering how long take improvement if ever? 😭
@@Happy-jv9fd I just found out I have an impinged nerve, L2L3, that is causing my hip pain including piriformis. Maybe yours won’t last so long!!
and spot on with one of your diagnosis a previous torn hamstring muscle can bring this on
I have had PS for about two years, your explanation has been very informative.
Your conclusion is find a therapist or chiropractor and buy a series of work, hopefully they know what to do.
I need someone who has the skills you describe. I’m in Georgia, north of Atlanta. Could you recommend anyone?

@@Edward-xd1td Edward... Thanks for the info. I'll do as per your suggestion. Thanks again!
Thank you so much, I found this very helpful, sitting is my enemy, lots of driving as well.
i was very fit and sporty untill i got in a new job involving a lot of driving around 250km a day i liked the job a lot but after 3 months i got sciatica and when i put a cushion under me while driving the pain down the leg just vanished, i hope u are doing well and still driving pain free
Very informative video thanks
Ohh my ..well how the hell do I do that?
Catalina MaGoo 🤣😅🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant presentation :)
Glad you liked it!
I’m sorry what did you say I really had a hard time concentrating on what you were saying because you are breath taking ! Wish I lived in Philly
Paul Rumer you are an idiot.
Cathy VDB ? Belgie ? :-)
How do I distinguish between this pain and actual pain from a disk
Matthew J if it temporarily goes away from stretching, it's piriformis related. Best way to tell though is an MRI.
Thank you!
Its crazy because I don't work out but from walking so much in NY I apparently need to stretch more.
nylotus same here, has yours gone now?
Great explanation for this problem. I thought I corrected it with therapy but I am a runner, and I guess it is letting me know it's stressed out again. It really hurts, especially when your muscles are just waking up or in the morning. I've got very a "solid" build, so it feels like I pulled something back there in the right buttock. Everybody calls in sciatica, but that's really an effect, not the cause, isn't it?
How do i get your email address i have a question
Great idea to show a picture and hide it with your hand.
Ok, ass
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No mention of symptom of most concern.... DEBILITATING PAIN!!!
what a lot of talk!! Talking does not take my pain away!!
Wow. You're showing so much ignorance
