Yes but he went into, or back to, a Ned Ryerson loop, I call: "Groundhog Day: Ryerson's Revenge". It's where Ned Ryerson marries Phil's sister Mary Pat. And Phil keeps trying to stop the wedding from happening. I thought of this idea for a sequel/prequil before the end of 1999.
I never thought of it like that, but you're right! Phil tried and failed repeatedly to get with Rita over and over again. But, as soon as he got insurance, it's the next day. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣
@nautical man I think the main reason Phil got out of the time loop was because, Rita finally fell in love with him and they slept in the same bed together and when Phil woke up in the morning, Rita was still in the bed with him where Groundhog Day didn't repeat itself making it finally the next day.
Fun fact- The intimate hug scene was completely improvised by Bill Murray. Ned's actor had no idea what was going on, he just tried his best to stay in character
It's funny you should mention that because the actor who played Ned Ryerson played the amnesiac in Christopher Nolan's "Memento" who kept giving his wife insulin.
This could also explain why Phil leaves the b&b at different times yet always runs into Ned in the same place no matter what. Ned is self-aware and is simply waiting for Phil to buy insurancd
"I don't know where you're headed, but can you call in sick?" Now that's a useful tactic for getting rid of an annoying jerk, but it could backfire on you if he says "Sure I can".
@@roninikari But what if that situation happened and Ned replied with “Sure I can” and that happened to be the perfect timeline and Phil was stuck with that permanently? lol
@@thatguyintherain3168 I'm pretty sure that Phil would be so happy to be out of the time loop that he'd be willing to put up with ANY set of circumstances. Remember, this is a guy who has tried several means of killing himself in the hopes of escaping the loops. If he was okay with ending it there, he can deal with an awkward one-night-stand in his past as a worst-case scenario.
I’ve got to know some of these sales since I happened to pass a few of assessments in programming schools. They’ve been following me up for years since then
I guess he learned to avoid him after first week or so . All he had to do was to leave inn few minutes earlier or later . Much harder was to avoid his work as reporter and cameramen he didnt like . He wanted to see and talk to Rita ,so cameraman and work was like package deal .
Yo I swear I was walking around in nyc once and I tripped off the side of a curb and this homeless guy recited this line word for word... it was crazy cause I got the reference.
Notice when Ned gets hit he doesn't just fall backwards but spins around and we get a glance at his stunned expression. Nice touch by veteran character actor Stephen Tobolowsky.
Ned *pulls off his hat* RYERSON! LOL does he think showing his bald head is going to make Phil recognize him? Unless of course he was already bald in high school
Just brilliant film with intriguing story line and great acting. They mixed Comedy, Drama, Romance and Fantasy perfectly. Bill Murray shines here. Andie MacDowell was impressive too. The whole cast was great. I miss the 90's so much! They don't make films like this anymore
"WEH HEH HEELL Watch out for that first step; it's a DOOOOZZZY!" HAHAHA It sounded like Ned actually really enjoyed watching poor Phil step in that curbside pothole and tghe fact he seems to puts tears in my eyes I'm laughing so hard lol Like first of all, why would you acknowledge it, and second of all, why would you enjoy it? (Because he didn't buy insurance from you?? petty lol)
Poor Ned, he was a hard working insurance guy, in those days without internet insurance people used to run their mouth faster than bullet train and wanted to sell insurance to every individual they met.
With Phil and Rita, meeting Ned at the restaurant, and they all have a laugh about it being the best day... Ned asks, "So, where are we going?", with Rita replying with a laugh, "Let's not spoil it!"
I think the best part of this is that he is probably the most remembered and quoted person in this movie and was only on camera for less than 5 minutes

"Bing again! You are sharp as a tack today!" I would've immediately got suspicious at that. I would've been like "What do you mean by that?! You're doing this aren't you?!"
Ned in his own groundhog day and only get out of it if he sold an insurance to Phil.
thats genius! :D
What if that's all Phil had to do all along?
After that lays commercial, this comment aged perfectly
Same with Phil but the opposite
He literally gets pushed away and still chases after Phil. Crazy bastard.
King of the Anals and the Fist Men insurance Agents....
King of the Anals and the Fist Men and punched
Doesn't matter he got paid alot of money to make that movie
He is a yo yo.
He sees an opportunity and charges it like a bull.
Everyone’s saying Phil got out of the loop because of Rita, but in reality he got out of the loop as soon as he bought Ned’s insurance.

@@terryk5412 I wish you suggested that to the producers in 1999
That’s it lol
the only way to break a time loop is to buy a comprehensive yet affordable insurance plan.
LOL - indeed!
There is no way all of that is anywhere near affordable.
From the devil
If the only way to break out of the time loop is to listen to a sales pitch from Ned Ryerson then I'd just as soon stay in the loop.
@nautical man I think the main reason Phil got out of the time loop was because, Rita finally fell in love with him and they slept in the same bed together and when Phil woke up in the morning, Rita was still in the bed with him where Groundhog Day didn't repeat itself making it finally the next day.

I don´t think so.

That make sense because in the last day he actually buy the ensurance

“PHILL CONNERS”
“NED”... *punch*
Good GOD that was satisfying!
Still funny 😅
I laugh my ass off everytime
‘What are you doing for dinner?’
‘Something else’
One of my favourite EVER lines of dialogue
Lol
"I don't know where you're headed, but can you call in sick?"

Every one of these is hysterical, but I love the one at 2:45 The way he just bounces right back kills me.
Ned is a monster salesman. Will not take “no,” for an answer. Literally gets thrown back and still laughs and chases down his quarry.
Traps said quarry in a time look until they buy his insurance

Yes, lol.
"What are you doing for dinner?"
"Something else"
The whole scene when Bill Murray says to Ned, "I don't where you're headed, but can you call in sick?" All of that was ad-libbed by Bill.
So I bet the awkwardness was a real reaction.
Bill Murray is the father of improvisation.
Stephen Tobolowsky deserves an Oscar for his performance.
4:02 when Phil does that motion back at him I lose it every time lol
You can never get of enough of “Ned; Ryerson!”
Bing!
Am I right or am I right? Oramitight? Oramiright?
'Dismemberment Plan'.
Great band.

🤣🤣🤣
"GOD, it is SO good to SEE you!"
Love that quote with the hand gesture, lmao
What are you doing for dinner kong?

Whehehehooh! Watch out for that first step, it's a *doozy!*
+Frozen Retro ! like anyone could ever know that
Yo I swear I was walking around in nyc once and I tripped off the side of a curb and this homeless guy recited this line word for word... it was crazy cause I got the reference.
It's great because you get the whole arc of the movie - the way Phil's attitude evolves - just from watching the Ned scenes in sequence.
Favorite line, "I sure as heck fire remember you!"
i would have probably just kept punching Ned Ryerson in the mouth on a daily basis :)
+Professor Greenthumb i expect phil probably took that up too until the end
Professor Greenthumb that’s what he does in the original script
John Cooper - Art of Social Really??
Professor Greenthumb I’d develop it over time, try and different weapon on Ned each day 🔪 🔨🗡💣
Notice when Ned gets hit he doesn't just fall backwards but spins around and we get a glance at his stunned expression. Nice touch by veteran character actor Stephen Tobolowsky.
Ned *pulls off his hat* RYERSON!
LOL does he think showing his bald head is going to make Phil recognize him? Unless of course he was already bald in high school
His face of: "I still have any clue" is priceless hahahahaha!
Ned was a key player in this classic!
best compilation of anything that anyone has ever made. EVA!
I'm the 900th to like this video!
Well I wouldn’t go that far but

So true. The drama / sad part is how the old man died no matter what Phil did ☹️
This absolutely stands the test of time
A classic!
I love it when he says, "BING!"
3:05 is probably the funniest straight right in film.
They Did it Fantastic in the Broadway Version
This movie is a classic. One of my all time favorites. I laughed my ass off, felt a little sad, felt a little dark, just a good time.
3:05-3:10 LOL
***** great movie
Pure gold
That was definitely the best one!
Ned got wasted
Phil's reaction to the 'Bing!' at 1:56 absolutely floors me.
I love the scene where Phil pretends to flirt with Ned, that's just a great scene, especially the look on Ned's face during it.
RRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYERSON!
"I have missed you SOO much! I don't know where you're headed but...can you call in sick?"
"He he... so did you go pro with that bellybutton thing?"
"I sell insurance now."
"What a shocker!!!"
i want to see the whistling belly button trick...
Not even five minutes of screentime and he just steals the show! My favorite part (besides the punch) is when Bill says "Bing…"
I give huge props to Ned's actor for being so insufferable ! x)
Kudos to Steven Tobolowsky.
Ned is a classic character
R.I.P - Harold Ramis.
Was he even in any of these scenes?
Joe Chiodi he was the doctor in one scene towards the start
Ned Ryerson...Nerdy Ned... Ned the head! Your typical insurance man.
BING
Y'know, the brilliance of this editing job actually enhances the notion of the Repetitious Infinity-Hell from which Phil is trying to escape.
"I don't know where you're headed, but can you call in sick?"
🤣🤣🤣 Aw man, it gets me every time.
The man behind Ned Ryerson character: Stephen Tobolowsky
the way ned twists when he gets punched is brilliant.
Oh, GOD, it is SO good to see you!
"It's been great seeing you Needle Head, take care" 😂😆

Ned is the one who started the loop. Ever notice how he didn't end the loop until he finally bought insurance?
Ned, I would love to stand here and talk with you. But I'm not going to.
Classic Murray, lol
What a great career Stephen Tobolowsky has had, from Groundhog Day to Memento, not to mention being in Stevie Ray Vaughans Jr. High band....
I thought when Phil finally avoided the puddle he says "watch out for that first step. It's a doozie"
With Phil and Rita, meeting Ned at the restaurant, and they all have a laugh about it being the best day... Ned asks, "So, where are we going?", with Rita replying with a laugh, "Let's not spoil it!"
Just love Ned
can you call in sick..ha ha!
When Ned gets punched I fucking laughed out loud at that LOL. This movie is a classic for a reason
3:48 That one weird kid in school who ran to class. 😂
"Needlenose Ned, Ned the Head, come on buddy, Case Western High!"
Phil's character growth and love for Rita had nothing to do with leaving the time loop. He just had to buy insurance from Ned.
"dont know where youre heading, but can you call in sick?"
*Ned scuttles away* lolz
The best part of this movie was hearing him say "Phil?" With the exact same excitement every single time.
lesson learned: being nice solved it
3:00 “Hey phil Phil! Hey Phil connors.
Ned!?”(punches in face)
I love the one where he pushes Ned but he’s unfazed and just keeps chasing Phil

Why didn't Ned offer Phil the optional "groundhog day" prevention package"?
Groundhog Day is the Dark Souls of early 90s comedy. He got a little better each time.
Yes 3.07 the best. The way he spins completely round! Ha ha.
And the spin was ad-libbed, too
