I like how the Tank Bugs spawned in as the big 'oh shit' moment of the first level, complete with orders to retreat, but you see them die before they can even finish turning around to attack.
The Marauder armor from the third live-action movie makes a comeback? Excellent.

That's an awfully nice way to say "We don't completely trust you to see this to the end"
Really captures the spirit so well. Feels like a lot of love went into the presentation. The execution at the end of the video was a real seller. It's probably too early to say though, but the combat seems a little simple.
Yeah I'd agree with the above - from the demo the combat is actually quite deep, it becomes a kind of RTS, tower defense, tug of war hybrid with some rock, paper, scissors thrown in for good measure, really enjoyed it even at that early stage
The gameplay looks really simplistic, easy, and not rewarding.
Starts off that way since these are the first couple of missions. The one's later on reward tactical thinking and discourage a head on rush. And the limited number of troops you can field really make you think about what you want to deploy.
Younger me would probably love this game to death. Growing up playing C&C and Warcraft, I always wanted a RTS Starship Troopers game as it was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Me and alot of my friends wouldn't stop talking about it, and we used to play with Melodica that we used for Music class, and pretend it as the Assault Rifles like in the movies. Back then, the best we could get to a video game is that one is the Starship Troopers custom map for Warcraft 3 and play together in a Internet Cafe. Good times.
Unfortunately this game came out 15 years too late. Played this one and it feels mediocre at best, maybe I'm just gotten to critical with my games. Wish I still got that excitement I had as a kid
I know how you feel, I have a library full of games that I have barely touched. I rather watch videos on TH-cam than try to get into a game especially as I am constantly doing chores around the house when I am not working.
Not quite an RTS (more a tactical squad based shooter) but did you somehow miss Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy? I played the hell out of that when I was younger, don't think a WC3 map could have come nearly as close as that game did.

Ive always wanted a Starship Troopers game, and I always believed it would be a great RTS. So glad I stumbled across this video!
Not into RTS to be honest.
There is also an older Starship Troopers RTS game you might want to find. "Starship Troopers: Terran Ascension". (Though at this point it is abandonware and might be hard to safely get).

I don’t know if this game will have modding, but if it does, I can already see an aliens mod where you control squads of colonial marines against hordes of aliens!

The game already exists and this is probably based on it. Its called Alien vs Predator extinction and I use to play it on the ps2 as a kid. like this game but much creepier and you play campaigns as either the aliens, predators or marines.

ok idea, have a bug increase in the options menu where you just increase the bugs by sliding a bar. the more bugs, the funnier the experience, makes you rethink what to do, what units to use and how hopeless an situation really is.
I think they are gonna put in a horde mode or slaughter mode hopefully

Maybe consider using attack move occasionally to prevent your guys from just walking right the bugs 😂

The original Starship troopers was the bomb for me. I wish they could have poured more effort to push the franchise. that would have spawned many more movies, tv shows, games, toys and series.
It's not "the bomb" because the first movie is a film & NOT a richly metal with subatomic particles & explosive powders with a mixed of other imploding elements also known as a "bomb". Sooo you see, it is NOT a "bomb" at all cuz they're not even of the same material to even compare. Do you mean to say..."the 1st movie is a good movie with great acting & a masterfully written script" ....???? If so, then JUST SAY THAT!!! Duuuuuuuuuhhh!!!!

the art and UI are very well done
Looks like fun. I'm not a big fan of the explosions and some of the other special effects. Looks very uninspired. But I like the sound effects and the shooting of the bugs looks cool.
The sensor flare ability is godly with the tactical officer's damage boost.

Looks good so far, definitlly gonna grab then relased. The only issue I see so far (and this based on early gameplay which was streamed and literally first 15 minutes of this video (Eddit: Ok, after 4h steam now)) is animations, the quick switch between firing and idling of the MI soldiers

I would agree. It's janky and oversimplified. I'd love to see the ability to actually form units up behind cover, adjust your formations etc.
Move and fire would be great as well, with reduced accuracy and or damage or something.
Supreme Commander combat is more fluid and well done than this. I love RTS games but there hasn't been many solid options since it's time imo.
@@TheJamuson I mean...it's a linear combat game like Total War. Three ranks of firing lines seems perfectly adequate given there's no such thing as cavalry or artillery.
@@SecuR0M And even in total war games you can adjust ranks. My point is that it feels a little janky and over simplified. It could easily be a lot better.

its a very rigid and buggy game that need serious polishing to be considered a 2022-2023 rts.. I really wanna like it and hope they will improve it to reach the potential this franchise deserve !

I have to wonder, just about 20 minutes in, if there's an "attack move" command for your riflemen. Would make some of those movement-to-contact missions a little easier.

I have seen all the Starship Trooper movies, & in my option Starship Troopers 1 & 3 where alot better then Starship Troopers 2 & the ones that came after 3. I am very happy this game is now available to buy on Steam.
They need to correct the plasma bug animations. The launch their plasma THEN the "plasma launch" animation takes place. A basic detail and they missed it? Dafuck.
There was a note on this that they are fixing that before launch from this early preview version. Tanker bug is a bit 'bugged' too at the moment.

I really couldn't get into this. Was in the Alpha/Beta testing and just gave up. It never really got moving for me. There wasn't enough to it and everything is rather flat and generic. A Dawn of War Dark Crusade version of this with a proper campaign story that was interesting and where you capture regions on the planet and such would of been awesome.
...aaand Helldivers is still ontop as the best Starship Troopers Experience in game form.
