They create lots of sparks from the metal on metal impact. Probably to reduce the chance of combustion.

the metal goes through multiple phases with magnetic belts and stuff so it gets seperated from metal and non metal before it reaches the other end

They don't bother separating non ferrous it just get sold as zorba
