- An Interview with Bollywood Silver Jublee star Rajendra Kumar. Interview was beautifully conducted by Ms Sarita Sabarwal ji and videographed by myself . This is an unedited version, the interview was on air on a TV channel "ASIANET" in 1997. The interview was shot in between the shooting for a TV Drama/Film Rasm-o-riwaz shot in UK. The producer was Mr Gurcharan Gossal and I worked as dialogue writer, cameraman and Director. We were lucky enough to be with Mr Rajendra Kumar for four days - day and night. We travelled together in same car/texi/other means and lived those 4 memorable days to their fullest. I was very lucky to have lot of interaction with Mr Kumar and although he felt the schedule very tiring but always appreciated my work. I remember once we were filming a song with some tongue twisting words and the shot got stuck, we did about 10-15 takes but each time it did not work.. he suggested to stop the shooting for a short break... during this break I approached him and explained the meaning of those words... and went through the sequence... he gave an amazing take straight after the break.... then he asked me "where are you from", I said "Lucknow".. and he said (in Hindi) "Only people form Lucknow can have such good Hindi and Urdu", a big compliment for me and Lucknow.

Rajendra Kumar popularly known as the Jubilee Kumar was considered one of the most successful lndian actors in the 1960s. He attained a Ph.D and had a title of Doctor prefixed to his name. He had a very pleasing personality This is perhaps his best interview. Thanks for the wonderful I interview.
I have always admired Mr. Rajendra Kumar. As a school student I took his Autograph during the shooting of the film, Aap Aaye Bahar Aayi in Lonavla. He never got into any controversy. Always gave us Silver Jubilee hits. God bless him.

Unfortunately legendary Rajendra Kumar lost his Jubilee Star Status when his two new releases Aman and Palki were huge commercial failures at the box office.During the shooting of Aap Aye Bahar Ayee the craze was for Superstar Rajesh Khanna and another Singer Legendary Kishore Kumar.Accordind to Veteran Journalist Shri Raju Bharatan Legendary Rajendra Kumar was a Jubilee Star from 1st December 1961 to 31st December 1966.

Rajendra Sahab was an excellent actor. Matured lover, acting was in his blood.Very good personality. With his great acting there was another factor like "Sone me Sugandh" was voice of another great man Rafi sahab. There will not be another Rajendrakumar. He will always be in our memory through his great films.
Very true... he was very friendly human being with a great sense of humor. We shot a film with him in UK for four days and there are so many incidents where he expressed his superb sense of humor that I still cherish those moments.

It is surprising that he never mentioned Shankar Jaikishan whose outstanding music helped the success of several of his movies to have silver jubilee runs and earn him the nickname Jubilee Kumar.

This interview of legendary Rajendra Kumar Sahib's by Saritaji showed him in his true colours as while answering the questions he was very much natural without a vestigial trace of conceit of being a star of this high caliber whose every film was silver jubilee and that's why he is called 'Jubilee Kumar'. Like a great man he admired all of his co-stars during the interview even as some unknown aspects of his life also came in the light.Despite being a superstar, he looked so simple and straight forward speaking from the core of his heart while praising one and all mentioned by the interviewer. His son Kumar Gaurav was superhit from his debut in Love Story but as a talented actor he left some indelible imprints of class in 'Naam' playing Sanjay Dutt's elder brother. Wow!

One of the finest interviews seen in a long long time. Rajendra Kumar was indeed a very fine actor with a very pleasing personality. He comes across so naturally, so candidly expressing his thoughts so well...really wonderful. I liked him also in a breezy musical entertainer 'Jhuk Gaya Aasman' and another entertaining film called 'Ganwaar'. He's surely missed. But thanks for this upload.

Rajinder Kumar was called Jubilee King of his times.He is one of the most luckiest artist of his time though a very average actor going by the definition of acting skills,but got fabulous roles,best scripts ( just like Amitabh got), excellant directors and heroines ,co stars ,also it was a era when film industry was coming of age in India ,it bloomed and blossomed.He was also a very humble and a good human being, wonderful interview great memories...God bless
Sir not to disagree with your comment but I would like to add that although he was average but decent looking , he performed with sincerity. He didn't have the style of Shammi or looks or Dharmendra but I feel the middle class identified with him. Just my humble opinion.

Many many years ago, when I was a kid, I saw Rajendra Kumar's movie Arzoo on Sunday Doordarshan TV. So, powerful was his potrayal, I forgot his original name and always used to refer to him as Sarju of Okhla, whenever I saw his face on TV or newspapers. He was one of the most gifted actors of golden period of hindi cinema.
