Thank you Tony, for this video. It saved me a lot of money by repairing it myself. I"m sure that the auto electrician would not find this funny fault. I just can't explain what the origin of the goo is. Some guys recon that it is the paint on the peg that is becoming goo-ey. It does not really make sense, but I can't see any other sensible explanation. I found that the problem was occurring more serious when it was cold than when it was warm, which can be explained that the goo is more sticky when cold than when hot.
Thanks again - the cleaning operation solved my problem. I cleaned it with 85% ethanol.

Hi Tony, I enjoyed your matricul work. I had this happen on my C280, but it seems it went away for now. Interesting that in my case it was happening mostly in the hot weather..

I had the same issue with my W202, tried looking for a solution and didn't find one at the time, fixed it, and now the issue is back. Do you happen to know a permanent solution?

The other problem could be with the circuit board in the cluster. There is a gentleman in Florida that repaired Mercedes instrument clusters. I was going to send my gauge cluster there before I noticed the goop.Their website is, www.dnaspeedometers.com
