Deadly tornados hit Iowa, search and rescue continues

Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster emergency proclamation for 17 additional counties in response to Tuesday's severe weather.
The governor's proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to respond to and recover from the effects of this severe weather and activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and Disaster Case Advocacy Program for the following counties: Black Hawk, Buena Vista, Butler, Cedar, Clinton, Dubuque, Fayette, Franklin, Hancock, Humboldt, Iowa, Jackson, Mills, Muscatine, O'Brien, Polk and Story.

The windspeeds on the Fujita scale placed this tornado as an EF5. There is nothing on the Fujita scale that suggests it's *the damage the wind caused that rates a tornado. It's windspeed. Their rating is premature and echoes of El Reno - rating possibly the strongest tornado ever recorded as an EF3. If anything, if we're going to flat out ignore the windspeed, it should be an EFU (unknown) because there is a LOT that needs to be studied before we understand the Greenfield tornado. Most of the damage is EF4 and there is also EF5 damage - I think the sub-vortices are responsible for causing that intermittent pattern of damage and that's a horrifying thought. We need to do a lot more studying and a lot less ratings that feel like someone is just slapping a cheap sticker on the situation and calling it science.

I think it was upped to an EF4 yesterday and it was worse damage than what took place in Oklahoma couple weeks back even though that was really bad damage down there in Oklahoma but this Iowa storm was just devastating with what it destroyed! I still think it’ll be impossible to see another EF5 rating and I don’t know what more they’re looking for to get that kind of rating either but it’s simply storm rating politics is all that it is and it’s pitiful that it’s came down to this!!!

Did anyone ever get an update on the "Tanker 18 wheeler truck driver" who drove straight into that huge tornado in Iowa yesterday live on a traffic cam right b4 the 3/4 mile wide tornado swept the cam away? The tanker was lifted and swept away while it was clearly rolling 55-60mph right into it. And you could faintly see the tail lights of the tanker lift and go sideways. Nobody is talking about this 🤷🏻

Roger that ! I'm seeing EF-5 damage in Greenfield. The "experts" seem to underrate these monsters. I was expecting them to rate it a high end EF-4.
