Standing room only (no chairs) and was able to mingle up to the front row and watch 3 or 4 songs....A highlight in my life! I just love all his videos with Eric, who loved him very much! At last, great explanation & tutorial of this classic tune from the early 70's. Key of F# with the capo was spot on. JJ would play it in E with Clapton live but you nailed it. Love your channel. Keep on keeping on. Don't forget to cover the greatest songwriter our lifetime - Bob Dylan. Lots of material to work with.

Brilliant lesson Thom. I've been a J J Cale fan since the early 1970s and you've really grasped the "less is more" philosophy of his playing. Although there is nothing complex about his playing, it's really difficult to get that laid-back groove that he always seems to achieve. You really hit the nail on the head. Would love to see more J J Cale lessons.

Guitar pilgrim - I’ve been meaning to write to you about “shuffle” strumming patterns and this songs is a perfect time to discuss it. MANY players will strum a song like this using a, “down up down up down up” pattern ad nauseam... And that works and is fine SOMETIMES. However, a much better sounding/feeling “shuffle” strumming pattern is to strum it, “ down down down up, down down down up, (e.g. The House is Rockin by Stevie Ray Vaughan). If Stevie employed the standard down up down up strumming pattern exclusively in that song it would lose so much of its feeling , power, and that swing that you only get when Stevie’s in the pocket, shuffling slightly behind the beat. I know that you understand what I’m talking about and am hoping that maybe you can discuss this topic in a future video. If anything it’ll be a good lesson about how sitting right on top of the beat is bad, and learning to get inside the pocket together as a band creates a feeling like nothing else in this world when playing music with people!
Ok sorry for the long winded text. Cheers and please keep singing. We are all enjoying hearing you sing more often. You have a great voice! Late.
