    I just purchased the bambino as my first espresso machine. Making espresso comes with a huge learning curve and I just didn’t think it was worth buying a heavy duty expensive one with my lack of expertise. I am pleased with it so far and although I definitely plan to upgrade later on (when I can prove to my husband that my barista skills are worth a $6-$800 machine) I think the bambino will serve me well for a good long while. Made my first iced latte today using espresso instead of crappy drip coffee and it was superb! Coming from someone who is determined to quit Starbucks, anyway lol

    New Bambinos actually come with a standard basket (not dual wall / compressed). I bought one today to use while my Oracle Touch is being serviced. So far I'm very happy with the little Bambino, but being used to the automatic features of the Oracle, I'm looking forward to getting it back. Americanos are so quick and easy with the Oracle.

    Had 2 Bambino Plus (one went back on warranty) great machine, I love it. But, the auto purging of the steam wand into the tray ends up with milky water over the bench. Both machines did this, as the poor design of the collection tray forces the water up over the sides onto the temperature sensor, even if the tray is empty. Solution is to leave the wand up until the milk has been emptied and then lower the wand into the milk jug actuating the self purge. Result no mess and a empty collection tray.

    • @XICups
      @XICups  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great tip! Another thing that you can do is to place your cloth right around the steam wand, it's a practice that I picked with from my friends that have the big heat exchange machines.

    Really appreciate your expertise and knowledge. I’ve been watching many of the videos and they are awesome! I’m new to espresso and am in the market of looking for a machine in the same range as the Bambino. I also know KitchenAid has an espresso machine in the same range, except the KitchenAid has 4 filters in 58mm size. Would you be willing to do a comparison video between the Bambino and the KitchenAid machine? That would the LOVELY if you could! Really appreciate your knowledge and how informative all your videos are.

    James Hoffman suggests that you move the crema off the coffee because the crema is where all of the bitter compounds and nastiness are located. If you take the crema off you will see that the cup of coffee is much better without it even the espresso.

    Excellent video. How would you rate the bambino if you use a hand grinder or by ground coffee ?

  • @KBWGH
    @KBWGH 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I bought this machine and the issue I have is that the espresso comes really cold (like 140F) which could be the reason why your coffee tastes sour or bitter and the steam wand doesn't stop spitting hot water during the steam mode, which I believe is the reason why your latte was lacking body as the milk was watered down. It seems like this issue persist on all models, which is very dissapointing.

    • @XICups
      @XICups  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting to know, it's honestly something that I have not thought about given that there isn't much settings to play with. I will pay some attention to this in my future cups, as I am still testing this unit out. However I feel in my case it might have had more to do with the pressure and the portafilter; on the other hand the steam wand has been working very well during the last couple of weeks, so that might be another indication that it's not the temperature. Again thank you for sharing this bit of information!!

    • @juanpaulr
      @juanpaulr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I learned that you want to let the steam wand run for a few seconds. The water comes out and then after a few seconds the stream will begin. That's on all machines. But she machines are better than others at it.

    • @XICups
      @XICups  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry about missing your comment. But in case if you are still wondering this question. The Bambino requires cleaning once a month according to my friend's experience, she makes about one drink per day. The machine actually will force you to run the clean cycle and will not work until the process is completed. The cleaning recommendation is similar to most other machines, which consists of running the tablet at the group head and potential descaling by using the descaling solution.

    How does the steaming compare to the Barista Express? You said it starts sooner? What about the noise? I kinda hate the "thump thump thump" of the Barista Express 😂😢 And does it have the same loud solenoid noises like on startup and after steaming?

    • @XICups
      @XICups  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Due to the dedicated boiler, it spits less in the beginning and yes it no longer makes the thump sound, which used to bother me a little as well. The only thing that you hear more is the boiler sound on start up. Hope this helps.

      Did you purchase the Bambino plus? I think that unit comes with a pitcher. But nonetheless the pitcher that comes with the Breville machines are a little too large in my opinion, so hopefully you got something smaller in volume. It will help with your steaming and pour. Good luck!

    • @XICups

      I have also read that with the Bambino machines, this is due to the Thermojet working different than a traditional boiler. The benefits being that it heats up almost instantly, however at the same time when you are not making the shot, there are no boiler keep the temperature up. Now I have asked my friend who owns this machine, she told me that she haven't really encountered temperature issues with her unit. Hope this helps a little.

    What Grinder can you recommend to go along the bambino

    • @joelf5565
      @joelf5565 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve been looking at buying this machine as well and for grinder a timed dosing is a must for me. So far I narrowed down to two.
      1-Breville Smart grinder pro (which is same burr quality as in the Express, but with a great range to adjust to…gets a little finer and coarser). That grinder is $200, so with base Bambino total $500 which is currently $100 less than the Express.
      2- Eureka Silenzio. This grinder would be a big step up from the Breville grinder but comes at a price…$479. Also this grinder doesn’t do proper French press grind if that is of interest to you. The Breville grinder would do better at that. But for espresso grind it is better.
      If not interested in timed dosing (total manual grinding) then there are some in between, like the Eureka Mignon and the Rocky.

    More like mini infuser! Good video :D

    • @XICups
      @XICups  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it's not really like a mini infuser, the biggest difference being the thermo jet. The new machines that uses the thermo jet only kicks on when it's actually operation (pulling a shot, steaming or hot water) whereas the older infuser's heating element is constantly on. Although the thermo jet is much quicker, at the same time it means the machine is pretty much cold until you are making a drink. I believe this is the reason why some people are mentioning some temperature variations in their shots, not to mention you will not be able to warm your cups on the machine. Hope this provided some clarifications.
