Great drill, Chris. I am starting to hover the club more which seems to release some tension. This had led to creating more lag in my swing, and I'm starting to feel the clubhead more on the thru-swing. I am finding that if I don't ask myself for maximum distance, but rather swing within myself, that I am hitting the ball just as far as I ever have - but with more accuracy and a better finish position. A lighter grip at set-up is leading to better lag and later wrist action, with the clubhead coming thru with a late, relaxed fury. I'm starting to find my natural rhythm. Thx Chris!
Provided a fix suggestion to stop pulling shots left from low-marker playing partner last month. He indicated to tighten my left hand grip. I have never had such an instant and ongoing fix to my golf and now hitting greens with irons right from 1st hole. Not sure why so effective and if it subconsciously has you reducing your right hand pressure.
Thanks Chris. A simple but excellent drill that puts the focus on sensing what's going on. Been trying it without a ball in the garden and can feel the benefits.
another useful tip as I'm one of those people at the end of my shot it doesn't look right with the club grip the club to tight so hopefully this video will help me improve the pressure I apply to the grip
Great video Chris. You mention about Am's letting go at the top, 'playing the flute' one Pro' called it, and recently I watched Aimee Cho saying thatPro' Golfers Grip the club with the greatest pressure with the 'pinky' finger of the L/hand which ties in with what you are saying here, and with the Trail hand the Pressure is most with the 1st finger and Thumb. Do you find that you do that?
Thanks Chris, good info. As I have gotten a bit older I find that on the course I frequently let the grip loosen so much at the top of the backswing that the clubhead twists open as I begin the downswing. My stupid brain never let's me stop the swing, only try to correct with over rotation of the forearms. Oddly, it never happens on the range. Need to incorporate this into my practice.
Chris thank you for all that you do for the sport. Quick question though about this video. At impact do you suggest having light grip pressure like at setup or similar grip pressure to the top of the backswing?
Ball flight. Your ball flight will definitely be effected. I do know atleast when I grip it too tight I get a knuckle ball. If I hit an intended draw I’ll get a low ball flight that knuckles and darts and snaps. If it’s an intended fade it will go high and slice. But I do think over grip causes a knuckle effect on the golf ball, you won’t feel the face of the club especially with driver/ woods. When it’s perfect with these clubs you’ll feel the compression of the ball the club will naturally want to wrap on the ball slightly through impact. And usually just that split second feeling I can call out if I hit more of a toe shot or a heel shot or if it’s neutral. I think it’s club too higher loft standard shot i feel a firmer grip is better just like ball position stance etc I think the pressure changes throughout the bag.
It's something that teaching pros rarely cover while being a swing killer. Tension is the worst enemy of golfers. Your swing can be technically perfect but tension doesn't allow for a smooth flowing swing. Believe me; I'm speaking from experience. It's said that your pressure is right when you can feel the weight of the clubhead throughout the swing. It's normally caused by trying to hit at the ball rather than swing through it because of trying to swing harder than necessary for more distance. This is why everyone has a perfect practice swing which is nice & smooth & a bad real swing that's tight & jerky. Trying to hit the ball rather than concentrate on the swing. That's where tension comes from. Trying to hit the ball which sounds counterintuitive with the ball sitting in front of you. The ball ruins a lot of good swings & a lot of good shots. You can't have a good repeating swing with tension in your body & it's that simple.

great video Chris, this is definitely something I do either to loose or too much tension , going to try this
nice drill, simple and easy. very effective! Thanks Chris! Dr Q from Germany

This guy is the best teacher on youtube.
Thanks 👍👍
Hello Chris, nice video! Is there a drill to lighten the grip especially during impact because my tendency is to get way too tight at impact?
this is a great video, it came at a perfect time. thanks for all you do
another brilliant video and drill
what hole os that and where - looks like a lovely approach

Hello Chris. Can improper grip pressure lead to injury?
Brilliant video Chris, grip pressure is definitely something I struggle with and will give these tips a go.
Light as feather works best

there is a world long drive champion who said this "as far as grip pressure, on a scale of 1 to 10, mine is a zero"
