The nicest thing he ever did was the time he let Picard live his life differently and do the things he often regretted not doing, so that Picard could see that those other actions would have been worse mistakes and that his choices had been what made him who he was and what he really wanted and should have done.
I didn't... when Q hit Picard when they first reunited, I'd thought Q had somehow go off his rocker... that Star Trek Picard was gonna ruining and sabotage the character... but in the end I was happy it all turned out to be one last lesson for Jean-Luc and for Q to say he actually cared about Jean-Luc and for them to goodbye.

It wasn’t until subsequent appearances beginning in “Q Who” that he was portrayed as a more neutral entity who was testing Picard for some greater purpose, and even helping him in subtle ways. And in “Qpid”, “Tapestry”, and “All Good Things”, Q had straight up become an unconventional and annoying ally of Picard, who was clearly helping him on a personal journey. Q has an active interest in both Picard’s love live, as well as his future happiness. He goes out of his way to ensure that Jean-Luc overcomes any feelings of regret so that he can live life happy. But Picard is a stubborn, ridged, by-the-book man who buries his feelings for the sake of appearances. So Q feels like he has to play games with him and put him through challenging situations to get Jean-Luc to drop the facade and face reality. The question of why he has an interest in Picard isn’t fully revealed until this episode of “Picard”.
Don't forget that had Q not introduced the Enterprise to the Borg years before they would have naturally encountered each other, all the Federation races would have been easily assimilated. He raised their awareness, and by allowing some of the Enterprise crew to be killed in the process, he showed them how serious the threat was.
He always was, but he was to proud to let himself love others. In the end, Q realized that Love is all that (a) God wants from us 🙏🏼 because God Is Love!❤️

Jean luc picard would have never called him a god. He would have rebuttled what Q said and said his Parlor tricks are impressive, but he is no god. The writing staff didn't understand the relationship between the 2, that's why this scene doesn't sit right with me.

This was, hands down, my favorite scene of the series. Still Q, still mysterious, but here he is for just the briefest of moments giving Picard a peek behind the curtain - one final gift. I adore how Q grew and was changed by his interactions with humanity, and this was the summation of all that experience.
His initial performance as Q in an early episode of TNG is most memorable. The one where by putting the enterprise crew on trial, he is prosecuting all humanity (1986?) Ive looked forward to watching john de lancie ever since

I still believe that all Q did over all these years was to prepare him for Ascension. Humans have the potential to become like them. And during the Trial the continuum held against humanity with Picard as our representative, he showed that he could consider so much more. So much that it could reach Their level. If only for a split second. And that's how humanity won this most important cases of all. With Q almost telling his favourite what it all was for at the end. For someone who is immortal, continuous and all but ever present in all times, the past is a shackle. Yes, Q did all of this because Picard matters to him and he dearly loves him. But. It also brought Picard that little bit closer to where Q once was.

I don’t like this series at all, in fact I stopped watching most episodes before the end because I hate what they did with the IP all round and it doesn’t “feel” like Star Trek (I mean the D scene was kind of fun I suppose) but I’ve always thought Q had so much interest in humanity and Picard because - some time travel shenanigans permitting - they are a big part of why Q ultimately became the Q, and may in fact be a precursor to the Q themselves.
The fact that they brought Q back again at the end of season 3 undoes this moment. He should have left our Universe/Multiverse at this moment, never to be seen again.

I haven't watched ST:Picard (nor any of Neo-Trek other than Lower Decks), but seeing the Q clips make me want to reconsider. The relationship between Q and Picard is one of my favorites aspects of TNG tbh.
Funny thing is, in the next season there was an important thing happening for which Picard and his crew were required. They again saved the Federation from its enemies, now the Dominion. But Q had a point here too.

I have really mixed feelings on the Picard series overall, but I have to admit I really did enjoy how they ended each season, including this season (and especially this scene)
As Q this said, i must say, i got tears in my eyes. Q was always someone who played his own rules and for me he never showed that other persons are important for him as he for himself.
This was an excellent way to use Q. I have nitpicks about how the season goes about it, but Q is... Q. Not who they first met on Farpoint. But someone whom since had lost his powers, lived on the Enterprise, had someone nearly die to save him, and who learned enough morality from humans to allow another Q to decide his own fate even at the cost of a civil war after. It's hard to have a character arc for a being that is ageless and all powerful, but the writers and John de Lancie pulled it off.
Q definitely had a connection with Picard, this scene confirms the theory of why he was always attracted to Picard, he looks at Picard as the son he never had until little q,
Q’s character development over the course of his interactions with Picard and Janeway have been nothing short of miraculous. He evolved from a dangerously irresponsible and narcissistic entity into a loyal and caring friend who values his favored mortals’ welfare and happiness. During his early interactions with humanity, he sought to entertain himself to the detriment of the Enterprise-D crew, but he came to see the universe through new eyes.
De Lancie gave us a character that will be almost as eternal as The Q themselves.

All through the series Q changes his tempo progressively. Very harsh in Encounter at Farpoint to very mellow in Tapestry
