    8:04 "I'm not gonna use the engine", "I'm just gonna transfer fuel" . Yeah like that one time when you "just transferred fuel" propelling your spacecraft due to the teleportation of mass from one tank to another. I don't trust you.

      @LadyWildlower 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Main problem when using it on larger scales: Infernal Robotics has a habit of part drift, you end up having the entire craft spin a lot. I may have tried doing a science mode where my intention was to unlock that and then use it for practically everything.

      @Admiral Pegasus Well, Scott made a video where he used to go to and from the moon and minimus.

    • @LadyWildlower
      @LadyWildlower 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, he did make a video going to the moon and so. I watched it. It's just when you use it on a much larger scale, like interplanetary stuff. Part drift causes your rotatrons to, well, drift, causing your ship to spin when you turn it on.

    Nuclear advocate here, but yes, LFTR has problems notably
    LFTR problems:
    Protactinium isolation = proliferation risk
    Depending on the geometry, loss of breeder blanket can cause prompt critical reaction if axial neutron internal reflections increase via breeder blanket absorption loss absence.
    Runs on highly enriched fuel 90-93% (which is unlicenseable for commercial reactors)
    Nobel metal plating out on heat exchanger
    Low power density in core (core is HUGE compared to water moderation cause carbon is not as good)
    Graphite life time and maintenance issues
    Fissile inventory tracking issues (it is easy to track fuel rods and pebbles)
    Salt Pump longevity issues
    Cold slug reactivity issues
    I could go on but yall get the point
    Other more humble MSRs are more likely to come about first, or even moreso pebble bed reactors that use salt coolant (like what UC Berkeley and Oak Ridge are working on).

      Heh, well if you are on twitter I tweet about nuclear stuff all the time over @BeCurieUs :D. The guys over at Thirdway have a bunch of good stuff to read on advanced nuclear as well. Just google that, Advanced Nuclear 101
      , and that will get you the tiny rundown on some of the advanced concepts out there for nuclear. They are all going to need a lot of engineering to make work right, but I am happy to be that engineer that helps make it so!
      I have a youtube channel that I have neglected since I started school, but I plan to get back to it here soon (*flogs self*), so I will talk about nuance of reactor stuff there at becurieus1 youtube channel. Forgive me for self promoting on your page, Scott!

      "Do you read comments in your spare time or is it an obligation?" Smart people read really fast. Ask me how I know? :) Or... Maybe it was just a lucky shot, as in he rarely reads and just happened to spot that one. Perhaps it appealed to some aspect of his nature... hmm... I might stop talking now.

    Dear Scott,
    I lost interest in KSP, but not for any bad reasons. Its a good one.
    Recently, I had a real bad cold, the coughing fits got so bad, I couldn't sleep, worse, the pain.
    This all happened because of an incompetent medical staff in the little town I live in, who refused me an urgent consultation, not once, but four times. Then, on the 13th of this month, I was admitted to hospital to have nearly four liters of fluid drained from my right lung. Had I not gone in, I wouldn't have lasted the weekend.
    So, now I am home and no interest in playing any games. Your videos always motivated me to try harder in KSP, and I seriously hope you can work your magic again to get me playing the game. So, thanks for being you, thanks for the great videos and thanks for being a Scotsman... I admire you almost as much as Billy Connelly. Keep the videos coming and I hope you can reignite my passion for KSP. :)

    This should be really easy except for a couple of spots - getting into orbit is finicky (but doable, as shown), which leaves Tylo as the main challenge. Finding a spot where you can land and later take off without destroying your ship, as well as the ROV refueling that it's going to require... Unpleasant. That and the boredom of all of the refueling required.

    I think SpaceX is right to prioritize transportation. Space travel is the dealbreaker here -- everything else, from logistics to life support to reliability, can be solved a lot more easily. Where there's a way, there's a will.

    • @dcs_0
      @dcs_0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the phrase is "Where there's a will, there's a way". SpaceX is the Best

    • @General12th
      @General12th 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, really, I meant it the other way around.
      There's no will right now because it's just too hard to get to mars. But if SpaceX manages to build their rocket, and a way comes, then so too does a will.

    • @dcs_0
      @dcs_0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You think that the landing on minmus was hard but I landed on the mun with no SAS, no landing gear and a deployed antenna that I needed to protect. fortunately I had massively over-designed on the probe that was designed to simply fly by and had 2km/s delta v after getting into orbit, the probe was also top heavy and unbalanced.

    Wait, when you were talking about your mouse settings and your mouse being too sensitive, you were using the scroll wheel, right? On the very off chance you weren't then I would definitley recommend trying it out, because if your scroll wheel has fine enough control then you can set up trajectories way easier by just nudging it ever so slightly when you're moused over the node you want to increase/decrease and see if your scroll is smooth enough to do the job.

Unfortunately my university doesn't have a subscription with those journals and I'm not $50 worth of interested in death fluorine.

    Scott, would you mind checking the audio levels before uploading a video? Music levels and speech levels should be approx. the same. On this video, music parts are about 10 times as loud as your voice, making it almost impossible to watch thjis video at night time without accidentally waking all the neighbors when the music starts. Thank you.

      OMSI-Fan Mark not for me. He's much louder than the music.

      Are you really young Zorua? What I said was a subtle joke. If you aren't really young then let me know so I can insult your intelligence. If you are then, it's OK. It's takes a while to learn to see these things.
