Clownpuncher, I know this would take a long long time , but I would love to see a video where you rank every single combat or predator section based on level of difficulty
I'm not as familiar with Origins and Knight as I am Asylum and City, but I'd guess the top 3 most difficult might be the pump control room in Asylum, Wonder City during Protocol 10, and Wonder Tower.
I just played through Origins again the other day, and I think I found some great speed tech for Firefly (though it might only work on PC since it's very spammy). If you quickfire a glue grenade, then 6 batarangs, you can get out a concussion detonator before he recovers from the glue stun, get the batclaw pull-down off and the beatdown off, then immediately quick-glue him before he attacks and repeat the cycle. You can also just glue - 6 batarangs -glue repeat and keep him stunlocked. I was able to get him to phase 2 without him ever attacking, and this works in phase 2 after the chase as well if you get lucky and he starts with grenades after the batclaw pull-down.
For Firefly. You can trap him plenty of times with glue and skip that detonator entirely. Basically anytime he makes a new movement, you can use it. A hundred percent applicable every single time he doesn't directly shoot at you or takes a wind up. For cloudburst. GCPD is also viable. Worked for me at least Shocking Zombieman Grundy only works in first and second phase. Dont botjer on the last
Something that should be noted for the Joker jumpscare is that you can only discover it after unlocking the Two-Face side quests after unearthing the first plant for Ivy.
Well, for the Cloudburst, if you lure it close to a Riddler room under the Movie Studios, when entered AFTER you shot the Cloudburst, you can refuge in that room and the boss will leave you alone.
I'm proud to say that I knew most of these. But I enjoyed learning about the ones I didn't. Takedowns on Bane, the Cloudburst cheese, the crane skip, and the Concussion Detonator's use on Firefly are cool tidbits that I never knew about. And I only found out about ground takedowns being silent in Arkham Asylum is fairly recently, so I kinda count in that list. I always toyed with the idea of speedrunning Arkham City because I spent hundreds of hours just playing the game casually as a teenager, and this videos seems to be reminding me of that fact. Good video
19:02 I’m pretty sure at one point I was grappling up toward a building next to the Clock Tower and Man-Bat appeared. I also once saw a Man-Bat reaction video and I believe one of the appearances was on Founders’ Island. So I’m not sure how consistent the location of their appearance is
My first play through of Arkham knight I didn’t know the freeze blast was in the movie studios for the entire game. Needless to say, I will always make it a goal of mine to get to the area as quickly as possible
I do something similar to your cloudburst cheese, I just use Panessa Studios instead because it works just as well for running in the first 3 phases and it's more consistent to line up shots on the cloudburst after
I appreciate the glitchless runs more then simply exploiting a game-breaking glitch to skip half the game because it really forces you to become somewhat of a pro and is really skill based like you gotta be sharp asf with everything you do without fumbling and I like that 💯
This is a common misconception. I actually speedrun these game, and honestly, many of the game-breaking glitches require way more skill than a lot of glitchless techniques. The best example I have is Arkham Asylum, where glitched 100% on Hard is way harder than glitchless 100% on Hard.
In the cloudburst fight there is a tram near the mandatory education sign and if you wait near the tram the cloudburst will come to there then you can shoot the coolant line and hide behind the tram ,the tram will block all the main gun shots and you will be to close so the ai will not launch missles at you or attemp to move towards your location meaning you don't even need to play ring around the rosies
The Solomon Grundy tricks are good to know! That's when City starts to feel like a grind. I always use the line launcher to get through the long hallway in Wonder City.
I recently did a sort of Challenge run of Batman: Arkham Asylum and discovered that you do not need to do a single Silent Takedown in order to beat the game.
Regarding the quick fire gadgets and how people can miss them despite there being text prompts, I think you underestimate how often people are seemingly incapable of noticing text on the screen when playing games lol. I've watched my fair share of let's players who have missed critical mechanics in different games despite there being text-based tutorials on screen. They just simply never noticed for a any number of reasons, from being distracted by their chat or something outside, or tunnel visioned into focusing on something else in the game that they don’t pay attention. Just yesterday I saw a post on the Skyrim subreddit where a guy said their girlfriend didn’t realize how you’re supposed assign perk points when leveling up and she made it to level 25 without taking a single perk/skill, having a very difficult time fighting higher leveled enemies before realizing why that was the case.
21:20 It should be noted, while this isn’t particularly useful for actually speedrunners as it’s slower, if you wanna make the fight even easier you can glue grande after the concussion detonator and it will stun him for even longer
In arkham knight, after u get acces to the GCPD location, you can go to the evidence room and get batmans electric gun. Simply punch the glass and take it. The park of the game where u have to go to eliots memorial batman would have to go retrive the electric gun, but you got it ealier I reccomend grabing it early, helps with some ecounters P.S clownpuncher Rocks!
Not sure if this counts as a speed run trick but it is at the least fun to use. In certain combat encounters in the base game you can set up so explosive gel as a way to take down, at least, 20 goons in about 20 seconds. The encounters in question are, the fight with M. Hammer, the fight with the Titan Penguin Goon and the Fun House Brawl with Joker, Mr. Hammer and the Titan Joker Goon. In the boss fight with Mr. Hammer, before starting the boss fight, simply spray the explosive gel around the area where you fall down to and when the cutscene introducing Mr. Hammer ends hit the quick-fire explosive gel which will knock down most of the enemies then start attacking M. Hammer right away. Then get your combo up and us Multi-Ground Takedown to knockout all downed enemies. The Boss fight with the Penguin Titan Goon is a little more tricky but when you're down to one opponent instead of knocking him out instead use either the Ultra Stun or Freeze Grenade if you're on New Game+ and set up the Explosive Gel. Now where you spray the gel is up to you just make sure it's not next to the electric fences and instead on one of the walls. When Penguin unleashes the Titan use the bosses charge attack and hit as many of the goons as you can. On the last charge try to direct the titan towards your explosive gel wait for the titan to shake you off. Make sure you have that upgrade to your combo that allows your gadgets to hit more enemies. As before hit the QF to knock down all enemies and stun the Titan then hit the titan, get your combo up as quickly as possible and use GTD to knock out all downed enemies. The final time this can be used is at Joker's fun house is both really easy and VERY hard to pull off correctly. Before the fight starts use a Ultra Stun or Freeze Grenade on Joker and set up the explosive gel in the desired location of the arena, just make sure it's not where the carts are. Then when the titan shows up do what you did with the Penguin Titan Goon. Make sure that Mr. Hammer is down BEFORE you use this trick or he will attack you and make you lose your one chance to takedown every one else in the room. This will turn these fights which can lost 3 or 5 minutes into fights that last, at most, 1 minute or even 30 seconds since the bosses Health are determined more by the number of enemies in the room as I've pulled this trick on the Penguin Titan in one case which allowed me to take out all the regular goons and the titan was takeout right after that so I didn't need to rid the titan a third time. This doesn't work on Mr. Sickle as all the explosive gel will disappear after the jump scare with him and it also can't be done with Ra's as again the explosive gel will disappear between phases and the enemies won't stay down long enough for it to be useful. It can also be done in the fight with Bane at the end of his side quests but because Bane's attacks can affect you to it can be very hard to pull off. But if you think you can manage it just set up the EPG before you talk to him and then use the MGTD when Bane uses his ground pound to take out most of the enemies. I haven't seen or heard anyone else doing this so if that's the case please feel free to share this and, to be egotistical for a moment,. call the Winter Winds Knockout because I very well might be the one who came up with it and I want the credit for it.
My favorite trick are animation cancels in Arkham knight especially with silent takedowns you can just activate the takedown and then run away or do another
Great Video Clownpuncher, I thought I would know everything there is to know about Arkham Speedrunning from watching your Streams but I learnt alot more from this video. I can't wait for the Arkham Shadow Speedrun/Speedtech. Hopefully there is a Clown to Punch in Arkham Shadow. Only a few days to go!
I always used the Batmobile when fighting the Miltia not because it's faster but because they throw on red strobe lights which screws up my vision during combat
28:13 Also, it's not a speedrun hack, but an overall hack batmobile also has detective mode it's not permanent like batman's, but it helps greatly you can activate it by pressing the up button the d pad of both x box and ps controllers I don't what button it is for pc
Not sure if this is already a well-known fact about Arkham Knight (I am not a speedrunner, nor do I watch much speedrunning content), but I learned that you can skip the part of ACE Chemicals where you use the Remote Controlled Batarang to locate the five workers. I realized this completely on accident, because I had just played the game enough times that I memorized where they were and didn't realize I had done a skip until I was rescuing the second guy
For the #7 trick something I see very few people do when they do gameplay live streams for Arkham knight is: When you go into ACE chemicals you eventually get to a point where you have to fight like 25 thugs. Just don’t…the area that you’re standing on, while you’re watching them debrief, if you drop down right below it is the panel to unlock the door. From there you can just use to Batmobile to glide right into the mixing chamber room or shoot all those enemies with the Batmobile. Saves sm time
Here's some tricks I learned from Arkham runner Cojosao: Diving through a wall of explosive gel, skipping the stun animation, saving two upgrade points throughout the Arkham Mansion, so you can get both upgrades for the Cryptographic Sequencer in the Penitentiary, the corner cover batarang zip, and trophy duping.
19:25 imma be real, i never got jumpscared by manbat or joker during my playthrough of the game, even though i grappled on buildings for photomode, not one time.
I'm surprised you didn't include Arkham Knight's Riddler Dialogue skip (but it's understandable since you're talking in general Main Story and any% runs) you can skip almost all of Riddler's quotes in Arkham Knight by pulling up the Riddler Challenge tab once he starts talking, and then hover over any Unsolved Riddle. After the game plays the quote from Riddler reading the Riddle in the challenge tab, close the tab and the game will simultaneously cancel both the Riddler Challenge dialogue and the dialogue of Riddler speaking in the moment. This saves minutes of time throughout the entire Riddler Side Quest since most triggers wait for Riddler to finish talking and almost every single one of his quotes is never ending. you can also be too fast in skipping his quote before his dialogue even starts. His character animation will freeze and mini soft lock and you have to restart checkpoint. Wait til you hear his quote play. Otherwise, it works in every elevator ride in and out of his challenges, starting the count down for his races, and getting other prompts or scripts to run in game faster like swapping character or pressing a switch.
Here’s one i do: During the Wonder tower section, there is a section on the tower where you can freeze climb to get to the top of the tower. When you get up there, ALL of the Tyger guards somehow de spawn and you can walk right up to Hugo Strange and hack the door. I found this while messing around and doing the glitch to get back into wonder tower after it explodes.
I've been trying to get the Iceberg Lounge trophy, I turned off the music volume to focus on my combo, but I end up restarting the map each time I fuck up a combo or counter. Anyone got any tips (other than 3 hits, Quickfire gadget, repeat)?
