Ron Hynes - Sonnys Dream

- Ron Hynes performs his best known classic for the packed house at the ECMA ShowCase at the Pub Flamingo. Although technically, this was the 3rd year for the event, it was actually the first one under the ECMA banner, which added Newfoundland talent to the Mix of the Previous Maritime Music Awards. The first few years had little TV coverage, so in a lot of cases, I have the only footage of the early stuff.......Soon after, the big TV stations jumped on board and pretty much denied us access to shoot, or I would have footage of those as well :)
I am 51 years old. Canadian. I heard this song for the first time today. Tears. What an amazing song. Where the hell have I been.
Glad I got to introduce you to Ron. On the East Coast, he was a fixture of the music scene. To Newfoundlanders he was one of their favourite native sons and this song in particular is pretty much their provincial anthem 😄
I'm here ! October 2024. I've known this since the 80's, my Uncle ( Irish ) used to sing it. I adore it. It holds so much memories of Him and my Dad x
RIP, Ron. I'm having a beer and listening to your music in your memories. Cheers!
+Metropolis Noir Me Too.
Same here my buddy , living on the memories !

RIP Ron Hynes.......thanks for the tunes !
Sad news about his death today Miss you and God bless you for the great music...
My God I love it live. So much more feeling in it...
I agree. I've seen Ron a few dozen times solo and with the Wonderful Grand Band and this was by far my fav performance so was really happy to have the camera pointed in the right direction for this one 😄
Rest In Peace Ron, grew up listening to this song as a kid. You will be remembered
Sorry to hear of Ron's passing. Wonderful composer. Rest in peace.
Just heard the most tragic news ever tonight Thursday November 19th 2015 the great and legendary Ron hynes has passed on RIP Ron
Grew up in Nova Scotia. This song is one of my earliest memories of a song from the radio that spoke to me and moved me , the rest was just stuff my parents listened to in the car. As a young child I thought it was the saddest song I had ever heard ,and still do to this day. I dont know if my heart broke more for Sonny or his mom. And why didn't anyone ever take Sonny to Town?
Glad you found and enjoyed it. I remember feeling a lot of those same feelings the day I recorded this :) Thanks for watching
We lost a legend this day. Godspeed Ron. RIP.
sorry for our big loss what a singer you were ron rip
I am from Newfoundland and I don't listen to much Newfie music but this song gets me everytime I love it !!

you will be missed.
R.I.P. Good Sir. Thank you for the sweet sounds.
Thanks for this. Great
Very talented song writer!! This has been a favourite of mine since I was a kid.. coming from a family of Capers, this type of music was common growing up..
The same with me....which is why I was there to record it in the first place. Oddly enough of all the stuff I've shot, it's this and the Rankins from the same event that have the most hits, so I assume we are not alone 😄
Just realized Ron passed away R.I.P Ron the best singer ever don't listen to new music listen to ron
How nice of the Big TV stations.NOT Now we have very little.

Great video, I am sure my mother was there, she was a loyal fan for early on. I watched half hoping to see a glimpse of her.
