    I obtained my first customer by offering something everyone else won't.
    "Your load delivered SAFELY and ON-TIME or its delivered FREE"
    The owner later told me that he wanted to see if i was telling the truth, that was 10 years ago.
    We still pull their loads.

    The first shipper I got on my own was when a broker wouldn't pay me for a load I did. I approached the shipper for payment, found out they weren't happy either and started working directly with them.

    Great video! Remember, sales can be reduced to a numbers game which magically sends personal rejection out the door where it belongs. Here is how it works, write down every time you make a call or face to face visit and let's say it takes you 12 attempts to get business. Ok, your number is 12. When you start over (after succeeding at getting business) and you get rejections, you now know, you have to get back to twelve attempts before you snag new business. Make sense? The "no" isn't necessary about you, it's about you are not to twelve. As you learn, this number will likely come down. Once you build relationships with a shipper, ask him/her what they like and don't like when approached by a trucker or trucking company and take notes-hone your craft. Respect and Honesty goes a long way with these shipping managers. Happy Trucking and be Safe.

    This is great content. ONE thing carriers need to know and remember which wasn't addressed is some shippers require you to have your own equipment meaning truck and trailer. I find a lot more direct shippers want you to have your own trailer that they can load their product onto. So you need to know if shipper has their own trailers or if you have to provide trailers for them. That would be part of the leverage he spoke of in this video. Know what they need and provide the impeccable service 😊

    • @RealCoachRonn
      @RealCoachRonn ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This video is key to get started if your hungry and confident in yourself. I have been on this strategy for 3+ years now and have built a network of shippers in my area, which is much better to start and sell your service. When your trucks are operating within a 50 mile radius you can promise your customer alot of good things. You will be surprised how much income one direct shipper can bring you. One thing for sure tho you need to have multiple direct shippers (customers) because when your customer is down, you will be down. So never reject a new customer and ask them alot of questions about their operation to be able to help them accordingly. Have other trucking companies in alliance like your self where they can assist you with your customer and it can be a win win situation. Its a tough and not for every one.

    I'm a broker and I have always wondered why carriers don't reach out to the shippers directly off the load confirmations we send. Now i'm looking at into partnering up with a carrier to grow both sides of my business.

    • @Gill22
      @Gill22  ปีที่แล้ว +47

      There’s usually clauses in there that LEGALLY restrict carriers from reaching out to the shipper for years. However, i’m not sure how they’ll hold up in court and how many brokers actually go after carriers for soliciting those shippers.
      Also, the biggest problem is that carriers are not salespeople. They suck at sales. They don’t know the first step to contacting shippers. Hopefully I can help them out through my videos and my methodology.

      As far as I'm concerned, a non-compete would only be enforceable to trucking companies that ALSO have a brokers authority. But that non-compete wouldn't work vs. a standalone trucking company. It's not even the same part of the industry, lol
      That would be like making a substitute teacher sign a non-compete with a school district chairman. Yes, they're technically a part of the same industry, but their jobs are VERY different

    • @amels4620
      @amels4620 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Well Mr. Broker- once we agree on the load, I the Truck Company, have "NO EARTHLY IDEA" as to who the Shipper and Consignee are until after the fact! By then it is too late to cancel the load (per rate confirmation) without being hit with penalties including having my/our dot/mc numbers added to the do not book loads with listing.
      I've always said that the broker could and should at minimum post the
      1. CORRECT WEIGHT
      2. CORRECT PICK/ DELIVERY CITY
      3. give the name of customer(s) pick & delivery
      4. POST THE ACTUAL AMOUNT THAT THE LOAD WAS PAID (this is the law but these sorry no good brokers do not do this)!
      I myself will not haul certain customers freight as these treat drivers like dirty stained shizt!
      Many drivers feel the same, but we have no code.
      Until the owner ops/ companies using the bottom of the barrel load boards "JUST SAY NO!" absolutely nothing will ever change.

What we need is MORE brokers to create competition among them and thus drive prices down.

I usually sort by total payment and take the longest route available. But, another option is to sort by price oer mile. You'll get more short trips and have to deal with more red lights though.

    Some broker contracts state that its in place for 1 year. They dont twll you but after that year you can then book directly with shipper on that same lane. Also if still under 1yr they can charge up to 15%-25% per load which in reality 15% us what they should of being charging in the 1st place not 47% on load. It would still be a win untill it lasts, i do not recommend going this route, but it has been done by other carriers.

    Hey I have a genuine question for all the truck drivers.
    Out of 10 deliveries how many times do you come home with an empty trailer ?

    Another thing that goes against what you said trucking companies constantly double broker it’s the norm.

    One thing that nobody ever talks about is the near complete lack of regulation on these brokers while carriers and drivers are regulated excessively.
    For example, these brokers like to blow up a driver's phone never mind the fact they're creating a safety hazard if he's driving or they're disturbing his much needed sleep.
