We never appreciate what we have until it's gone. You were simply an amazing singer songwriter, the likes of which we will never see again. Sleep well. Gone but never forgotten.
I remember walking past an electrical goods shop in Chiswick, London, in 1973, when this beautiful song came drifting out into the street. I had to stay right where I was until it finished. A haunting moment never forgotten.
A wonderful wonderful song, an incredible writer, a superlative singer - Clifford T Ward and lovely to see again, the most kind, genuine and honest interviewer ever to grace our small screens, Russell Harty.
What a lovely talented man , he was in a class of own , every song he wrote was so beautiful, my husband and I have always loved his music, he was very ill for some time and used to play Home Thoughts From Abroad every night before he went to sleep , he has since died so it is so special to me ❤❤❤❤
Brilliant! I heard this song in a german radio show in the early 70s for the first time and i have never forgotten it. Clifford T. Ward has composed so many beautiful songs over several years. What a great artist ! It is so sad, that he already passed away in 2001.
It is a crime that his songs are not played more often on the radio, thanks to TH-cam, his legacy and wonders are still here to listen to, for people who appreciate wonderful music.
RIP Mr Ward. You taught my elder brother at NBHS back in the day. I attended ten years later so I never had the honour of being taught by you. Still love your wonderful music, timeless as your memory
There's never really been anyone like CTW. Bombarded with all sorts of brilliant music as a student in the early 70s at Lanchester Poly his album Home Thoughts became a fav of mine and it still is.
I heard 'Gaye' way back when it first came out...I was about 15 years old in the early 70's...I loved the song...I grew older...and listened to all the usuall led zeppelin's and all the usual heavy rock at that time and many other assorted bands...I am now 69 and I rediscovered him by chance about 10 years ago and ended up buying 14 of his albums. He is one of one of Englands finest songwriters, and yes, a true poet. These artists only pass by us once in a while. Love ❤
Such an amazing voice, I remember Clifford and the song, listening to it with Mark my new born 2nd Son. Brother to my 1st born handsome Son Shaun. Mark was born on 11th August 1973, the day before this programme was on tv. Where has all the years gone, I ask myself, my lovely handsome Son is a Dad to 4, of course I love them to bits. Shaun a Dad of 3, and Grandad to 3. 😊
Brought out one of my K- tel albums and saw Gaye by Clifford T Ward. I forgot about this beautiful song, it brought me back to a past life and upped my heart strings. I found out he died. What a shame
Remembering Clifford T. Ward born on February 10, 1944. He was an English singer-songwriter, best known for his career as a solo artist. Ward's 1973 album Home Thoughts remains his best known recording and he had hit singles with "Gaye" and "Scullery". His reluctance to tour in support of recorded work may have affected his chances of more substantial mainstream success. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifford_T._Ward
In my view, the best song by Cliiford T Ward is ' Screen Test ' . I can't get enough of that song . He even has someone reciting Shakespeare at the end , with horns just announcing wildly at the end . It's very different from his normal retrospective songs but I think it is a classic in it's own right ..I would love to know more details about the song ..( who recited the end part for eg ) th-cam.com/video/lDwGaGNkOJs/w-d-xo.html
@@dreamerinalowprofile1952 Really ? I wonder if she remembers . I love the horns throughout that song , so original . It was on the album mantle pieces ..the other great song on this album is We could be talking ... I heard Clifford was in a bad way at the end of his life ... he looks like he was a gentle soul in life ...sigh .
Warwickshire had Nick Drake & Worcestershire had Clifford T Ward. Both had class and talent as singer songwriters and were original. Totally unlike a certain individual who is performing as a corporate entity and producing bland, crap music.
This has brought me to tears. Thank you. So beautiful. When we still had poets.
Vdd❤❤❤
He was good wasn't he! There is only one Clifford T Ward - original and outstanding and still appreciated 50 years on
Thank you for your lovely comment.
Truly magnificent. Always appreciated.
Clifford T Ward lived from 10th February 1944 to 18th December 2001. A truly great singer songwriter.

Loved this when I was 5,recently rediscovered and it's like meeting an old friend....
Eu também nunca a esquecerei! Minha adolescência e o início da minha sensibilidade para a música!
This song stayed with e since 1973

Does anyone else notice the space between each line of lyric which enhances Derek Thomas's acoustic guitar and Richard Hewson's string arrangement ?
beautiful song and a beautiful singer
Beautiful
Lovely performance, and as ill at ease as ever. This was a fabulous single.

Absolute classic by a wonderful talent.
Faultless in performance and what a find, congrats for this.
Thanks. The credit for the find must go to someone else who tracked it down (apologies for the pun!😉).
Cliff T won ITV's New Faces talent show, I recall.
I don't recall that he did - but I would love it if could show evidence that he did!

A Lady called Gaye...I can't say any more...
Gaye was a popular and lovely name for girls. So what is your problem with it?
Maybe you should say less - or nothing!
@@davidcopson5800 Likewise to you 🤣
It was also the name of one of the greatest soul singers of all time.
