Each to their own. But I own a 2014 Pure that just has 32k miles on it. I have had it for three years now. It's my favorite car to drive. I have a '16 mazda3 and '13 toyota tacoma but they pretty much stay parked. As for the transmission, it is actually a standard trans. Made into an automatic. This was done to save weight. As for reliability, I have a local mechanic that has no problem with working on my car if needed. so check around that way you don't have to use a Mercedes mechanic.

Totally agree. I have a corvette grand sport, a Porsche 911 and my 2015 smart Brabus ( 6yrs) I drive the Smart as my go to car. Love it.

I found my smart car pretty reliable just did synthetic oil changes and used 93 gas car lasted to 200k miles before having electric problem clutch and maybe the clutch actuator went out and got screen of death sold it to pull apart for $600 bought it for $4k used and got 150k miles out of my passion..and it was about as fast as my versa note with a lower top end speed

I've owned a 2009 Smart ForTwo Pure for the last 14 years. The secret to driving the Smart is to drive the manual transmission just like any manual transmission. Do not let the car shift for you, drive in manual mode. You start in first gear, reach the shift speed, take your foot off the gas, shift up, and put your foot back on the gas. Because the clutch is automatic, it's very easy to do. Getting on a freeway, I will shift into third gear and increase the RPMs to get up to speed. I'm trading gas millage for more torque. Once up to speed, I shift up to fifth gear.

I owe a 2013 Smart Fortwo Pure. And i really love it. Think its an American thing not to love the Smart. We love em in Europe. Its a reliable Baby Benz. And i wouldnt trade it for a Yaris. But ur entitled to ur option

It's a manual with automatic shift. Which means it's got a computer clutch and will shift gears it's self. Unless you put it in drive and shift to the left. You can then shift up or down in gears.

That's also what the paddle shifters on your steering wheel are for.

Literally never head a bad review from someone who actually owned and used one.
The only bad reviews are from the car enthusiasts who don't understand the purpose of this car.

Yeah, yeah, but you'll never love your Yaris like you'll love your smartie. Trust me, it's a car you will LOVE.

I own my 3rd Smart ForTwo Cabrio Awesome Little Cars!! I use the paddle shifters and driving is way better!! However just so you know you cant get the body panels from mercedes in every color. I think you can only get the panels in silver and you have to paint them to the color you need . Not Cool! Try using the paddle shifters Youll Love it!!!

I'm thinking in buying one of the same year...my main concern is parts and being able to find service (people who can work on it). Any advice???

I have one. Tires can be abit of a hassle to get as they are staggered Filiments. Just bought a new set but could only get snow tires on the front as the rear ones were sold out everywhere. It’s a simple small easy commuter car that honestly I’m seeing a lot of disabled and elderly people getting. It’s so easy to park the only downside I’d say is sometimes it feels slow accelerating due to the gearbox. You can still order brake pads and all that online so no worries there. And for the most part any mechanic with a decent scan tool should be able to fix it. My mechanic changed an o2 sensor recently for me.
