I WORKED AS A CONTRACTOR for a Corporation. I was there for 2 weeks and told my boss I saw a lot of things that could be improved on to make things way more efficient. I found out my boss was pretty new himself and had only been there for 6 months. He called me into his office and had me tell him everything that could be improved. He filled up an entire tablet with my ideas with the exact details. On my way home I was called by contracting agency and they told me that it was my last day (I had no idea why). I talked to other workers at the company a month later by phone. They said the boss had taken all my ideas and called a company meeting to talk about and implement all "His" ideas...

I took it more that he believed that the beautiful gift his son had wouldn't be appreciated in this world, that he would not let it be the thing that defined what he would do in life. Sort of a, yeah he can publish a book of poetry one day with money from his actual profession rather than have his profession be "poet". Which is of course a limited view of the possibilities but nonetheless a view that encompasses the most likely horizons.

@@hohocho8961 Being supportive is when someone has a goal, or dream, or has chosen some kind of direction in life, and you give them assistance they want from you. I haven't watched the movie, but telling from the recap, the kid never expressed the wish to be heard and appreciated for his poetry, which is not surprising seeing as he's 5yo.
A creative outlet can be just that: something private for personal satisfaction, and not something you want to shine with or capitalize on, not something you'd want or need support for. In that case, being put on the spot "create!" or getting pushed to excel, to go public etc, might ruin it for you, by intrducing pressures to what used to be a leisure activity. And/or it might lead you to under-develop other skills, hobbies, interests that are sacrificed for the sake of nurturing that one talent.
Or the talent might be just an automatism, i.e. something a person just does without seeing any significane to it. If you push them to pursue this talent that means nothing to them, they will become very unhappy in the long run.
Not to mention that poetry space is an adult space. A kid that spends too much time in adult spaces, is a kid that spends too little time being a child.
That kid is five, and he's naturally talented. That talent will still be there when he matures a little and can make his own decision whether or not this talent is something he wants to pursue more intensely. Until then, telling him that his poetry is exceptionally good, and that you will assist him if he asks for support - this is more than enough. Anything more, and you're not supporting but actively steering the kid's life towards goals that are not his own.

I can promise you that as a person who once had an insane talent for art as a kid, I wasn't given the necessary help and advice (but plenty of praise) so in the end I lost interest and haven't touched art in years. People with talent need investment and challenges OR THEY NEVER GET ANYWERE. While Lisa crossed the line soooo bad, had she gotten the parents permission to allow Jimmy work with her and allow her to show Jimmy to the wider audience, he would have potentially gained national recognition. Jimmy needs stimulation and her idea was right but execution sh*t. I'd even go ahead and say I sympathise with her cos in my eyes wasted talent is such a shame

I think a film about him and his life would also be an interesting -- a child prodigy gifted beyond his years living in semi-neglect (emotionally?) by a family struggling to survive economically. Maggie's character here is a great example of an unself-aware person flailing at getting their needs met via poor choices. Glad the kid was OK in the end... but her children and husband will certainly be scarred by her going to jail for kidnapping. Yikes.

The teacher is such a morally gray chracter. On the one hand, she seems to be the only one who nurtures the kids creative side and encourages him to do more poems.
But on the other, she's only doing it for her own selfish reasons, going as far as kidnapping him and crossing the line as teacher by putting her number in his phone and taking him places without his parents permission. And of course intially presenting his poems as her own.
At the end of the day, even though she did all of that stuff, odds are is that now that she's out of his life no one is going to push him to pursue poetry further (unless he pushes himself).
This is just based off of this recap though, I'm sure there's more stuff included in the full film. And now that I read over my comment, she seems to be more 'bad' than 'good', something that she realizes at the end when she let him go

Because he obviously needs support and he wasn't getting it and he was basically abandoned, but you know, don't kidnap the kid and don't interrupt his daily life with his friends and his naps because you think you know best. Do not stop people's affection for him because you think he's too mature for it. Just saying maybe he was so good at poetry because of his child like few so stop trying to make him think with the mind of an adult
Also, she wasn't seeing the beauty in her kids individual talents because it wasn't the talent she wanted. Not only not recognize what they were good at in school, but talk to her son about why he's now passionate about joining the military, and old school photography is not the only kind of photography and find out exactly what your daughter's doing with her photography for Instagram because that is its own form of art. Also her husband is dope and she needs to appreciate that more
So obviously so much suckage on her part, but at the same time with her student she had some good intentions coming out with her family though she was kind of just a dick to them. She was fucked up, but in some ways she had the right spirit

    • @truebrew3498
      @truebrew3498 ปีที่แล้ว

@@zelrius8714 The sick creepy woman kidnaped a child and took him to a motel then had him sitting on the bed in a towel while she took a shower. If he was an adult everyone would obviously know what was gonna happen next. She didn't have him get dressed. He had a family he wasn't abandoned. But she did abandoned her husband to run away with a child that wasn't hers because she liked his poetry. That is just sick in itself for a grown woman to be obsessed with the writings of a child. But by all means, remain in your rainbow cotton candy fantasy world where people kidnap children and take them to motels for playdates and poetry parties. And what do you mean "cmon now" you said what she did was creepy and weird. You don't even have a reason why you think she wasn't gonna do something sick to that child outside of you just not wanting to believe it. If some strange woman kidnapped your child and took them to a seedy cheap hotel without knowing any other details wouldn't you think she could have done something disgusting to him?. It's scary to me that there are people this naive in the world my children are growing in.

Not only goal but also means to achieve it matter.
She wanted to help the talent of a kid to flourish, but kidnapping him etc. Is clearly not the right way to do it.
She wanted her own children to be more sophisticated, but making them feel bad for not wanting or doing what she thinks would be better for them is also wrong.
Looks like she was obsessed with idea to make something great of other people (as she desperately felt not being able to do with her own life), so she thought it was ok to force them, manipulate etc. She cared more of their talents/future than of those people themselves.
She was a bad teacher who kidnapped a kid, bad mother who wasn't supportive to her own children in what they want to do with their life and also was ready to abandon them, bad wife who neglected her own husband, bad student who stole other persons work.
She was very selfish and narcissistic.
