He does get cut up and sent to Alibaba. The wife manages to kill all of the thieves herself by outsmarting them.
And suddenly I'm imagining woodland hunters using shotguns to hunt Goodwill stores. "Cleetus! It's in a cul-de-sac outlet mall! There's nowhere it can run!"
This movie was actually based off a folk-tale called Alibaba and the 40 Thieves. The story plays out similarly in both the movie and the original story. Fun fact: the folk tale was actually where the phrase "open sesame" originated.
That’s where I learned that too! My second grade teacher had us read it out of a book of other surprisingly dark stories. Kinda threw me for a loop reading his brother shout “Oh Barley!” At a door and then the shock of realizing how he died. The book was cool as hell too. The only other story I remember from it though was one of a poor man with two asshole relatives, brothers I think, who (through magic plot devices) caught a horse, and the horse birthed him three magic foals as a trade to release her. Two pretty ones and one ugly one. I won’t spoil it, it’s a pretty best story. Dark, but so was the Ali Baba story.

That clip of Ali's brother saying "Forgive me! I just got lost.." while the murderous bandits approach - that really hit me. It's so pathetic and heartbreaking, I think it delivers a rare emotional punch that a professionally made scene could never achieve. As horrible as this movie was, it at least had that moment.

In the original movie, the wife kills all the thieves by pouring boiling oil into the jars they're hiding in. In this movie, they just get hit over the head.
And kills the boss by getting near him while dancing and stabbing him while alibaba screaming at her about her murdering a guest but she explains everything to him and telling him about the forty dead raiders in the oil
The movie is not accurate, but it is closer than I would have expected. Although Ali Baba was married, the role his wife played here was actually filled by a young but clever slave girl who he eventually freed in gratitude. The "X" on the doors part goes on for a bit longer and is more effective than the movie conveys. They were using the cobbler, who was actually a tailor who had reassembled the brother's body, to find Ali Baba after the tailor mentioned mending a quartered corpse (because how many of those were likely to be around besides the one they had made). Even the stripping scene isn't too far off. It was a sword dance, giving her an excuse to approach the leader while armed with a blade. So yeah, poorly executed and somewhat censored but not as far from the source material as the otherwise poor retelling would suggest. Not sure what the fuss about the bowl was. A measuring bowl is used to appraise the stolen gold, but it wasn't magical as far as I know.
Oh yeah! I remember that! We read it in school! Although I thought it was a servant who came up with it, not the wife. Although it has been a while, so I'm probably wrong.
Honestly, the only thing ripped off from Aladdin is the "Forty Thieves" song. The story of Alibaba is a very old Asian folk tale. So it's not completely ripping off Disney's Aladin. And this movie is completely watered down than the original story. The bandits cut the brother and gets the help of the blind tailor and sews the brother's body. And at some point of the story they burn the bandits with boiling oil. When they were hiding in the oil barrels. ( I don't remember the complete story )
There is a version on Netflix that tells the tale very close to the original but it looks like it was made with Sims 2 technology and have a power ballad in a weird place and so much weird murder in a kids move. It's called Alibaba and was made in 2002. My household watched it and it was hilarious. I highly reccomend it if you like terrible movies. I was hoping this was about that movie
Dose anyone else recognize the story, it's a old tale I'll write it here: Alibaba finds a cave, he stakes the cave and sees the radiers use the code word, he steals the some of the gold. His brother hears about this and goes to get some himself. But he forgets the code word to get out, and the raiders kill him and hang his body above the cave, Alibaba goes to find him, sees his body and beings back the news (he also steals more gold) one of the raiders goes to town, find Alibaba house and marks it with an x. His wife sees this and does that to every single door. Later the raiders hide in 40 cases, planning to kill Alibaba. His wife also sees this and pours hot oil in each case. They leader yells the code word, but the other raiders are dead, Alibaba kills the raider leader and lives happily ever after. I remember reading this in school so :P
I wouldnt call this an Aladdin ripoff at all, sure they stole music from the film but Id chalk that up to laziness and not malevolence. Style of clothes and the onion domed palace are hallmarks of the setting(they were present as early as 1971 in a japanese animated retelling of the story) . The first film about Alibaba dropped in 1902 and the story has been milked dry well before Disney used it(and abused it in Aladdin 3).

So I just found out Ali baba is an actual story of it's own that was featured in the 1001 Arabian nights collection of stories. The story itself is pretty interesting (somewhat similar to Aladdin and the king of thieves, but technically Ali baba came first)

it just looks like the animators were inexperienced, I do paper animation for fun sometimes and oh boy is it hard to keep characters consistent while drawing them like a billion times-
This is one of my favorite bad movies. I got the DVD back in 2017 and have shown it to several friends just to see their reactions so it was fun to see/hear you experiencing it. It's fun to occasionally be the one who knows what insane shit you've gotten yourself into.
Here's the thing. As far as the story goes, it was based on "AliBaba and the 40 Theives". A short story in 1001 Arabian Nights. They definitely messed up a ton of aspects of the story, and the presentation is HORRENDOUS.
Agreed, the ironic thing is we kinda already have other animated adaptations of Ali Baba's story that blow this movie out of the water. Like that Popeye cartoon called "Popeye The Sailor Meets the Forty Thieves" for starters.

I agree but I also don't. It is pretty much exactly the story in Arabian Nights, but also, it did literally take a song from Aladdin. And it was most likely made to confuse people into buying it, thinking it's the popular Disnay movie based on the same story, while still remaining maybe barely legal.

The story of Alibaba is a very old Asian folk tale. So it's not completely ripping off Disney's Aladin.
And this movie is completely watered down than the original story.
The bandits cut the brother and gets the help of the blind tailor and sews the brother's body.
And at some point of the story they burn the bandits with boiling oil. When they were hiding in the oil barrels.

There is a version on Netflix that tells the tale very close to the original but it looks like it was made with Sims 2 technology and have a power ballad in a weird place and so much weird murder in a kids move. It's called Alibaba and was made in 2002. My household watched it and it was hilarious. I highly reccomend it if you like terrible movies. I was hoping this was about that movie

Dose anyone else recognize the story, it's a old tale I'll write it here:
Alibaba finds a cave, he stakes the cave and sees the radiers use the code word, he steals the some of the gold. His brother hears about this and goes to get some himself. But he forgets the code word to get out, and the raiders kill him and hang his body above the cave, Alibaba goes to find him, sees his body and beings back the news (he also steals more gold) one of the raiders goes to town, find Alibaba house and marks it with an x. His wife sees this and does that to every single door. Later the raiders hide in 40 cases, planning to kill Alibaba. His wife also sees this and pours hot oil in each case. They leader yells the code word, but the other raiders are dead, Alibaba kills the raider leader and lives happily ever after.

I wouldnt call this an Aladdin ripoff at all, sure they stole music from the film but Id chalk that up to laziness and not malevolence. Style of clothes and the onion domed palace are hallmarks of the setting(they were present as early as 1971 in a japanese animated retelling of the story) . The first film about Alibaba dropped in 1902 and the story has been milked dry well before Disney used it(and abused it in Aladdin 3).

So I just found out Ali baba is an actual story of it's own that was featured in the 1001 Arabian nights collection of stories. The story itself is pretty interesting (somewhat similar to Aladdin and the king of thieves, but technically Ali baba came first)

it just looks like the animators were inexperienced, I do paper animation for fun sometimes and oh boy is it hard to keep characters consistent while drawing them like a billion times-

This is one of my favorite bad movies. I got the DVD back in 2017 and have shown it to several friends just to see their reactions so it was fun to see/hear you experiencing it. It's fun to occasionally be the one who knows what insane shit you've gotten yourself into.
Here's the thing. As far as the story goes, it was based on "AliBaba and the 40 Theives". A short story in 1001 Arabian Nights.
They definitely messed up a ton of aspects of the story, and the presentation is HORRENDOUS.
That's why it was familiar. I remember reading this story from middle school.

Actually not a ripoff it takes more from the 1000 Arabian knights,in which 1992 alidian is might to based off of.
i also want to add that alibaba is one of the tales included within 1001 nights (i believe). however, aladdin was written by a westerner and then added into the collection of tales.
but this is just about the originals. i acknowledge that this video is talking about the movies (i think.. i havent watched it)
I agree but I also don't. It is pretty much exactly the story in Arabian Nights, but also, it did literally take a song from Aladdin.
And it was most likely made to confuse people into buying it, thinking it's the popular Disnay movie based on the same story, while still remaining maybe barely legal.
